To be fair, we came to Chef MIckey's Place with a large group. There were 11 of us. We had a reservation and arrived promptly. We were greeted and seated in a positive manner. A server took our drink order right away. Another person took our food orders. And then we waited and waited and waited and waited ... you get the picture. Fortunately our kids aren't little any more so they weren't squirming and screaming but suffice it to say that close to two hours in, we stood up to leave. I felt terrible as I know it's a local restaurant with great reviews but it was unacceptable. As we approached the door, the proprietor and the chef (maybe the same person?) came out and deeply apologized. They basically begged us to stay and then, brought our food out immediately. Our food was good although could have been excellent if delivered promptly. They also made it right on our bill. read more

Spectacular meal!! Truly one of the best meals I've ever eaten. We had the Shrimp 4 Ways appetizer, which was delicious. The shrimp are huge!!! My husband had the Oaxaca Filet. Perfectly tender and the sauce - out of this world!! I had the Gorgonzola Filet which was also perfectly cooked to mouth watering perfection. And that Gorgonzola sauce...WOW!!! We have been to this resturant everytime we have vacationed in Rocky Point for years and have always had a great experience. Generally we can go in with a party of four and leave with a bill of arond 175-200 with tip for a great ribeye dinner. This time Chef Mickey met us at our table and built up the night special. Two of us took his reccomendation and ordered the surf-turf-and surf. Our mistake was not asking the cost, because he always had fair prices. It consisted of a few average shrimp, a steak about a 4 inch circle, and a chewy lobster. This was $115 per plate. If it was up to his normal standards I would not have been upset with a nealry $500 bill. We take responsibilty for not asking the price but I'm upset of the cost for a mediocre meal. When we asked about it they would not even discuss it. I'm sorry to say we will no longer dine at this establishment on vacation or as residence. read more

Every trip we make down here, Chef Mickey's is a must go to. We have tried several things on the menu and have loved every item we have ordered. The shrimp appetizer sampler, the filets, chicken New Mexico & some of the seafood options. We also tried a couple of the specials & they have all been great. Omg!!!! I can't even say enough great things about this place. The food, service, drinks... everything was amazing! Chef Mickey himself came by our table at least 5 times to check on us. The waitress was phenomenal! I heard the stuffed dates are delicious but ordered too much other stuff to try them. We started with the queso fundido and WOW! For dinner I had the New Mexico Chicken and mashed potatoes and green beans and honestly it was probably one of the best meals I've ever had. My friends had fajitas and said the meat was really great. Another friend had the Shrimp Diablo (which wasn't even on the menu) and she loved the flavors. Everything was absolutely perfect. They have AC which was a plus. Restaurant is clean. Food was amazing! I had the coconut shrimp, comes with mashed potatoes and green beans and salad or soup. Chef Mickey personally came to our table a few times make sure he could explain his dishes, ask when we were ready for our main dishes and check in with us after the food arrived. We found Mickey's place through reviews, made reservations for Thanksgiving Day, and were pleasantly surprised by a traditional Thanksgiving Day menu! 4 adults and 5 kids, ages 4-10, enjoyed a wonderfully cooked meal! Decent elegant dining with delicious menu! The hunny and I heard about this spot from trip advisor and then from a las Paloma's owner in the pool! Sunday night is a slow slow time apparently as there was only 1 other table when we arrived around 7:30pm. We are greeted and invited to sit where we like. I start with a margarita and my husband has a beer. We want something seafood & something local so we opt for fajitas and stuffed flounder with the shrimp starter. The yummy garlic bread & shrimp arrive fairly quickly. Love the 4 preparations: marinara, coconut with mango aioli, jalapeño stuffed, and bacon wrapped in a cream sauce shot. Absolutely delicious!!! We like the jalapeño stuffed most of course. Salads are very light and simple. Our crab stuffed flounder with green beans is delicious though the green beans undercooked and butter sauce overly rich for my style. The fajitas have fresh ingredients though not seasoned at all based on our taste. The tortillas are delicious though we would have liked a cooling element such as a pico, salsa or guacamole. While we were eating a gentleman came in selling roses. When we declined he said "they are real". No thanks buddy! For dessert we opt for the bananas foster which is served in a fried tortilla cup on vanilla ice cream. There is very little sauce and the bananas were barely even warm. We were very underwhelmed with this dish. At the end we waited quite a while for the bill & finally the gentleman nudged our server to check on us. I'm assuming it was Mickey who was taller with long hair asked us if "everything alright?" Which we said yes though his demeanor did not inspire us to elaborate at all. read more

So good we ate there twice during the week we were in Rocky Point. When we pulled into the lot we were greeted by a security guard who was there to ensure the safety of the customers and their vehicles(nice touch, but I didn't see any unsavory individuals around). The atmosphere was very nice and comfortable. On our first visit I enjoyed chicken fajitas and my wife had spicy flounder. Both were very tasty and more than ample serving sizes. I had a Bloody Mary which was very good (a tad spicy, which I like). My wife had Chardonnay which she said was good. Chef came out of the kitchen to check on us which was another nice touch. The wait staff spoke fluent English and were a delight. On our second visit, I had the filet which was top notch and my wife had stuffed shrimp with crab. The most amazing food I have had dining out in a long time... came here with my wife and two friends and found this restaurant by accident. We had stuffed dates with shrimp-so awesome and flavorful! I had spicy shrimp and macaroni and cheese... delicious! My friends had fresh fish from the Sea of Cortez.mmmmm.... I honestly recommend this place to anyone who comes through Porta Panesco. Okay...so we enjoyed this place so much that we had to return again! The staff is amazing! Stephanie, our server, Was very attentive and makes the BEST margarita in Mexico! We are working our way through the menu and have not been disappointed. All of the food is fresh with generous portions and is made with love and magic! We had the best experience at this restaurant. My aunt had a horrible foot cramp and we asked for our food to be packed up. She was in excruciating pain. Chef Mickey came out personally to check on her and make sure everything was ok. He gave her a banana and tomato to help with the foot cramp. Then our waitress Karla brought a water bottle for her to role her foot on. Karla was attentive and had excellent service. The food was amazing. We were so impressed and the people at this restaurant really care about their customers. We will be back and recommend to our friends. read more

Such a surprise walking in as I wasn't expecting such a quaint, intimate place! Service was top notch from the beginning to the end. They brought out some delicious garlic bread to begin. I had the filet with rosemary garlic sauce & mashed potatoes which was wonderful! The potatoes went so well with the rosemary gravy. Next time I will try their filet au poirve as it seemed to be a guest favorite. My only complaint was that the chef came out to speak with all of the tables except ours, I'm not sure if it's because we brought our toddler (albeit well behaved one) & maybe they're not fans of younger ones? Way overrated! Not horrible but certainly not great. We started with stuffed dates and shrimp. Quite good although an odd combination. Would have preferred a double order of dates and no shrimp. Salads were nothing special. Caesar was not a true Caesar dressing. Had to send one back as they failed to hold the cheese as requested. Shrimp and fish entrees were good. Some shrimp was over cooked. The blackened fish was simply seasoned but not truly blackened. The beef entrees were not good at all. Over cooked (ordered medium rare but arrived well done) and all were presliced (which should not be done with a filet) so temperature should have been known. A group of friends and I went to Rocky point for my birthday and our first stop was for dinner at Mickey's. Mickey's had been recommended by a friend and also had good Yelp reviews, so we were sold right away. The place is cute, somewhat intimate, and hidden in a small courtyard off the street. The bread they bring out to start was out of this world....we went through a few plates of it. The food was also fairly good. I had the macadamia covered fish with mashed potatoes and lemon cream sauce.....the fish was not fishy at all, it was crunchy and the sauce was nice. Overall, it wasn't the most flavorful thing I've ever had, but it was good. Other people had other fish dishes and a Mexican steak dish (which was nice). The prices were reasonable compared to the states but high for Mexico. The restaurant was sweet and brought out a birthday dessert.
