There is ample indoor seating with even more on the outdoor patio overlooking the city. The atmosphere is what you'd expect for a BBQ restaurant and there were classic 80s tunes filling the air. The service was fast and friendly. The fall off-the-bone BBQ ribs were some of the best I've had and were fine even without sauce. Speaking of, there were multiple sauces available. These are not your typical thick molasses based sauce, most featured vinegar as the main flavor. I thought this very unique and very good. My favorite was the Great Sauce - combo of habanero, onion and vinegar. My ribs were accompanied by basic but flavorful pintos adorned with onions and parsley and cornbread with real chunks of corn baked in. An added touch was the warm moist towel at the end of the meal. And to even make things fun, the provide cabbage to feed the resident goats!

The Mac and cheese and the beans needed seasoning. Both were bland. There is no reason for the sides to lack seasoning at a BBQ restaurant. Everything was so good and tasted like your family made it for you. Some standout items: the coleslaw is super finely chopped which gives it a really good texture, flavor is great. The potato salad was creamy and perfectly seasoned. The pork was so Smokey and tender. Their sauce is super great, would pour that on everything. The fried okra was so tasty, we ate every piece. They have so much cheese in the poppers, delicious. It took about 20 minutes to get my food but, when it came out it was delicious and fresh. The pulled pork was perfectly smoked and had some black spots (delish). I chose the baked beans and potato salad as my sides. Potato salad was delicious and the baked beans had some pulled pork inside. The banana pudding was probably some of the best I've had. Bananas were completely fresh and loaded with fresh waifers. A lot of times if they make it in bulk, the waifers are soft and bananas are brownish. Not here, fresh as if they made it to order.... noms! I loved sitting out on the deck at sunset and enjoyed myself quite a bit. They do have tons of seating inside in a more bar atmosphere and had a large area with some playhouses for children. Located in a great shopping center with a bunch of order shops: Coffee shops, Whole Foods, Banks, Puppy Bakery, etc. Plenty of parking in front.

The tow sides of collard greens and steakhouse style potato salad was just as good! The brisket sandwich was huge and overflowing with the most flavorful and moist brisket we ever tasted! The side of coke slaw was homemade and yummy! The hospitality from the moment we walked in the door was over the top with several employees checking in if we needed anything or if they can be of help, The owner Robert even stopped by our table to ask how was everything on the little break he got! The price for the food was okay - pricier than other places but the portions were generous. The meat was tender and juicy but there's no smoky flavor or smoke ring. The baked beans and macaroni and cheese deserve accolades though and bump a star. We did try the nachos and the chips were pretty bland and disappointing. Overall I think the meats need better seasoning as things tended towards bland. Maybe we went on an off day. It was around 2 p.m. and we were the only people there. We were pretty hyped to try it because of the reviews but left a bit disappointed. For comparison, we're huge BBQ fans - like Lewis, Wright's, SAW's, etc. so maybe it's just not our style. I love smoky, well seasoned meats.

Highlight of the drive. For the first time, today was different. The very friendly young women who first greeted us and guided us through the menu years ago are gone. In their place are unfriendly young ladies who would far prefer to chat with each other than provide even acceptable-level service. We were tolerated, not welcomed or even checked on to see if we wanted anything. I waited and waited for her to notice me at about ten feet away as I waved my empty beer can in hopes of getting a second one. Finally I had to interrupt the conversation between the waitresses by raising my voice above their conversation, "excuse me, may I have another?" Again, we were there early today. Just before 5:00 PM. That is how timing works when you are on the road. So the place was nearly empty. They weren't busy with customers. They were busy chatting amongst themselves. As we completed our fried chicken (still very good), she came by and did not ask if we wanted anything else but simply said "ready for the check?" It was a way to make us feel like we needed to leave. To add insult to injury, we passed by the hostess table outside on our way to the car as we left and we happened to pass between two Champy's young female employees chatting at the hostess station and blocking the way out. We had to say "excuse me" and walk between then as they kept talking to each other. Never did they bother to say "thanks for coming, please come back soon." So maybe after all this time...we won't.

So, as I was told by the staff, the restaurant portion has been spun off and sold from the brewery itself, so this is my first visit for food, since that has transpired. It is now known as "BUDS & BREWS CHATTANOOGA", part of a larger group out of Nashville, I was told. The bar/brewery looks the same, there is the same helpful staff, but in all honesty, the food just isn't as good. The pulled pork, was okay at best, the fried onion rings, just too greasy, and the chicken wings, just too dry. When first opened NR was the first microbrewery to prepare and offer their own food, and the bbq was stellar, but I cannot make that same statement today. Brews are still good, but if need a good microbrewery in Chattanooga that can offer you good food to go along with that cold one, my recommendation is either Oddstory or Five Wits. I'll continue to come to NR for a beer, as their Moonpie Stout is absolutely one of the best beers you can find in Chattanooga, but like I said if I am hungry too, this will no longer be one of my primary spots to consider.
