However, I'm not sure whether it may be a bit intimidating for people starting to dabble in cheese. The staff responded well to my knowledgeable questions but a newbie could be overwhelmed by the sheer variety of cheeses, meats and wine on offer They do different sized platters of meats and cheeses that you can eat in, which are perfect for a little snack or even a large snack!

You can smell the shop before you've even opened the door, I can only imagine that the people working here have no sense of smell left whatsoever! They don't seem to mind though, I always find them to be helpful with a real passion for what they are selling. True cheese experts. You can ask to try anything on display (they are more than happy to let you do so) and then buy by weight. Try the Muscat jelly too, great for topping off the perfect cheese. They also offer an online delivery service if you're buying too much to carry home (hey cheese is heavy you know!) and a really useful 'Ask The Expert' page where you can e-mail them all things cheesy. Great for when you're not sure which wine will go with your new purchase. And as the blackboard in the window says, "What's a party without cheese?"

If you are coming in for the grilled cheese, I think that's the way to go. We did a mix of entrees…read morefor lunch yesterday, including mozzarella sticks, a burger, and a charcuterie board, and all of those items were fine, not destination quality. But everyone, including the person who actually ordered the grilled cheese, wished they had gotten that instead of their order. The toast job on that bread was perfect, just the right amount of cheese--i.e., too much--and the honey for dipping were all great. That would be the call for our next visit--a table-full of grilled cheese sammies! A note about the space--the space has a few tables outside, plus seating at the bar and a large, high-boy-style farm table for guests. I don't mind seating like that (more communal in nature), but I know a lot of people who would mind. Also, it's all stools inside, so for those of us looking to lean back in a chair, just know that is not an option here. Also, restrooms are around the corner, and while those toilets are paid, the staff at Cheese Bar hooked us up to ensure we didn't have to pay.

You definitely need a reservation to sit a the cheese bar and I highly recommend! The plates rotate around (like a moving sushi bar), you pull of the plates you want to try and are charged at the end by the number of plates and the color of the plate determines the price! The plates are numbered and you are given a menu that describes each plate! Everything was absolutely delicious and all of the cheeses are from the UK! It is such a unique and fun meal, I highly recommend planning lunch or dinner here next time you are in London! I can't wait to go back!

Liverpool Street / Broadgate

This is a great little independent cheese shop somewhat hidden away in Liverpool Street Station…read more The shop - as its name says - stocks a wide variety of cheeses from around the world (well, mainly Europe), with cheeses from France, Switzerland and Italy being particularly well-represented. I once found Džiugas, a cheese from Lithuania, here, though have not seen it recently, and was really pleased because, well, it's very tasty, and it saved me from having to fly to Vilnius just to get a taste of it once more. In addition to cheeses, this shop also stocks chutneys, cake mixes, biscuits, jams and sandwiches. The sandwiches do seem to be priced quite reasonably, and when I popped in one evening, were going for buy two for the price of one. I haven't tried them myself as I don't quite like their range of breads (white sandwich bread and baps). Staff are nice and friendly and happy to look for and suggest cheeses in accordance to your needs. International Cheese also offer cheese hampers, boxes and wedding cakes, so it's a great place to pop into for gifts as well.

Or for some bloomin good Cheddar They don't just do cheeses though. They have a mouth watering selection of chutneys and preserves. Loads of pates (including Fois Gras I'm hoping it's the ethical version I don't want to ask), port, and even Kendal Mint Cake. If I had to sum up this place I'd say it was a British Deli, if such a thing exists, and allowing for the occasional Swiss and French cheese They also do an excellent range of sandwiches. With the exception of a token turkey sandwich they all include cheese. And of course it's not just cheese, but specified types of cheese, whether cheddar, brie or soft, in ploughman's, with chutney, with ham etc. All fresh cut and simply wrapped in clingfilm. Prices start under £3, so very competitive too.
