We went to Cheddar's a little after 5 P.M. on a Thursday and were seated immediately. Our server Donnie was actually a perfect waiter. He tended to us immediately, had our drinks out in a flash (the strawberry lemonade was killer), and had wonderful recommendations for the meal from start to finish. At his suggestion, we got the onion rings as a starter. The presentation was an eye-widener and though the onion rings were delicious, I do think they could have done with some extra seasoning or more onion (might be personal preference). Our entreés came out in quick pace after our appetizer. I got the Monte Cristo which was too delicious for the first two pieces. However, by that time I was feeling sort of sick of the excessive amount of fried food (something I think Cheddar's could tone back on). My brother, who had ordered the chicken fried chicken felt similarly after his first breast. Four stars for tasty, fast food, reasonable prices, and stellar service. One star off for making so much fried food on the menu that you better eat quick, because after a few minutes, it won't taste as good as it did initially. This is the best place to gorge outside of an all you can eat establishment. Nicely priced and incomparable portion sizes make this a good stop in East Orange. It can get very busy during peak hours but that's not a show stopper. The cheese bites are the stand out appetizers. Fried and served with a delicious marinara sauce; it's the perfect lead in to a delicious dinner. I went here with my boyfriend and best friend. We got the nachos without meat as our appetizer, and they were so delicious! I loved them. He got the Dijon mustard chicken & mushrooms, she got the Spasagna (baked spaghetti & lasagna with marinara), and I got the grilled chicken Alfredo with a side of mashed potatoes without gravy. They liked their meals, but I think the Alfredo could've been better. It was okay. But the mashed potatoes were really really good! The grilled chicken Alfredo has baby carrots and broccoli in it - not a big fan of carrots so I didn't eat many of the baby carrots. The pasta comes with Texas toast garlic bread (like the frozen ones you buy at Walmart, etc), so that was kinda random, lol. My meal wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either. I've had better chicken Alfredo. I'll definitely recommend this place to others though due to fair pricing, good food, and the atmosphere being nice. I went there for lunch last week. We were seated right away, got our drinks. We couldn't order for another 15 minutes because the waiter disappeared for a while. We finally ordered and it took 20 minutes for a soup and salad combo, steak sandwich and fries to come out. The waiter never came to check on us for another 15 minutes. My salad was Caesar and was obvious they make it way ahead because it was soggy. The soup was room temp and the fries were very well done. My coworker was choking on her food because he never came to refill our drinks. When he finally came back he said "everything still good?" I said no, and you would Have known had you checked up on us. To which I told him I couldn't eat the salad because it was soggy. He ask if I want another but It was too late to wait for another salad. He ended "taking" it off my bill and said that the manager had given me a "employee discount" which I realize that's probably how they keep the district manager knowing that they are getting food returned. Don't be fooled by large crowds, the appeal here is cheap alcohol. The staff will tell you they make their food from scratch, but it tastes about as "from scratch" as a mcdonald's burger. If you have a weak stomach have fun destroying your toilet, although the crap they try to pass off as food will likely sieve through you before you even leave the restaurant, so I hope you like public toilets. read more

I love cheddars the food is yummy and inexpensive. I've never had a problem with service until last night at this location my husband and I had dinner here last night and the server we had was just terrible he didn't help us to find the apps when my husband asked even tho the menu was short, server didn't bring us plates for our apps we ordered, I got a alcoholic drink and he didn't even ask to see our ID's, the service overall the entire night was just slow and they weren't very busy for a Tuesday night. Hopefully next time we go it won't be crappy service and our server we get will be more attentive and caring and think about the customers needs. read more

I love the food here! I order the sirloin and chicken tenders almost every time and the broccoli cheese casserole. The prices are amazing for the quality of food. I bring my dad here every time he comes to visit. The only negative would be the servers. They are hit or miss. None of them are "bad" just not very attentive. I work in a restaurant so I don't normally mind, but on my last visit the server dropped the check and we put our card in it within 30 seconds. It took the server about 5 minutes to come back to collect the check. Nothing major, just could use some improvement. We stopped into this Cheddars on a recent trip to shop at Waterford Lakes. We were greeted promptly and sat by one of the managers as the hostess seemed to be overwhelmed with two large parties. Nice pickup by the management team to step in and help when their staff was flustered. Our server was quick to take care of us and checked back on us regularly. Our dinner was good but not great. The Mac and cheese was made with small shells not macaroni and the bechamel sauce was lacking in cheese. We saved room for desert and the hot fudge cake was plenty to share for our party of three. By far our favorite place to treat ourselves to a meal outside the home. We cook a lot so eating out is a special treat. This place is what home cooking is all about. I also feel as if my Grandma is in the back making our food. The prices are so reasonable that it makes us feel good about treating ourselves. The menu offers so many options it is hard to choose. I had the chance to visit this location recently for the first time. The first thing I noticed was how packed the parking lot was. This game the impression this place is a popular spot. So we headed it, and had a wait time of around 15 to 20 minutes. Considering the amount of cars out in the parking lot, this was something I was expecting. We placed our order with the waiter, who by the way, did a great job taking care of our table. In no time did we feel "forgotten" during a busy time for the place. The food was really good, the croissants in butter was heaven. and all the food that came out was very well cooked, and prepared. We left with leftovers because we simply ordered way too much, but had to problems killing the rest a short time after we got back to the hotel room. On 2/11/2018, my spouse, son and I went to this establishment to celebrate my 61st birthday. We were served tap water with ice. Not fit for human consumption. I told my server about it (Sydney) a very gracious lady, who stated "management was told about customer complaints, but nothing has changed." I spoke to two other servers about the foul tasting water, one stated "I don't even drink that water" another one stated "they do this on purpose so you upgrade to another drink since the waster is free." I then purchased the "tortilla chicken soup" but it had no chicken! When I complained to the server, an asian/american "area manager" came to our table and I explained her there was no chicken in the soup, she then stated "if that is what you perceived" I said "perceived" so I started emptying the soup, spoonful by spoonful into my hand, she started smiling and laughing, which caused my departure. I still left a tip, and left my spouse and son to finish their meal. My spouse met me in my car and stated the server went back to the kitchen and complained about the soup, where she was told that the menu is wrong, it is Tortilla "chicken BROTH soup." read more

My relative and I waited 10+ minutes at first for our drinks. Followed by waiting 45+ minutes for two very simple meals and not having gotten the appetizer we ordered. The meal I personally ordered was supposed to have shrimp, chicken and sausage with pasta. There was an overabundance of pasta, a deficit of all three kinds of meat, and not even close to enough sauce or seasoning. The meat that was there was also overcooked and dry. This was my first time at a Cheddars and it didn't leave a good impression. My broccoli was completely raw along with the rest of my families. The country fried chicken came with gravy on it and when we mentioned we didn't want the gravy, all they did was scrape it off and dunk the chicken back into the fryer, slap it on the same plate and send it back out. Great service and atmosphere, horrible food. My friend and I had high hopes for Cheddars as it opened next to his job but left super disappointed. We were seated quickly and the waitress was very sweet and attentive but were unimpressed when our food came. The waitress gave us a spiel about how 90% of the food is made from scratch, so we must have ordered the 10% of the menu that wasn't since nothing was fresh. The macaroni was overcooked and tasted like moosh, corn and green beans tasted like they were from a can, and the hamburger that my friend ordered was just bland and not something you would expect to be served at a restaurant.
