Let me begin by saying that our server JD was great! Attentive, considerate, and engaging. He offered suggestions on the menu and was honest. We ordered the Wisconsin cheese bites (curds) and was pleasantly surprised, very tasty! My side salad was quite lackluster for $2.50 with the exception of the croissant, it was yummy. As for the main meal, my husbands fish tacos were meh (too big too eat in a taco and the cole slaw had no flavor) my chicken strips were good but not great and the fries and honey mustard left much to be desired. My sons Mac and cheese was more of a home style dish which would have been good if there was any flavor. Generally, a completely under seasoned meal. If we come back, it will be for drinks and apps. As we discussed service discussed the ticket he laughed and stated that as the mother I should pick up the tab. I'm 48 my friends are 42 and 35. We (a group of 6 to ten or more) have eaten here a number of times but will likely not return. We usually eat at a certain table that they would not let us have unless the entire group was already there. Since we have folks coming from the island and around town we cannot all appear at exactly the same time. We don't have this problem at the many other places we meet for lunch. So they pulled some tables together under the A/C vents (which blew hard) and two of our folks were getting cold. The manager came over and said we could move again. We had to rearrange to try to make do. Then our meal took at least an hour to come, the longest time ever. We arrived at noon and left at almost 2 pm. The waitress, Emily, was sweet and helpful, but the manager seemed unconcerned, even when one lady of our group said we won't be back. He shrugged it off. I got a ribeye steak and the flavor was good, but it was very dried out. One guy commented that this was his worst experience ever there. Lots of other places in town. We just finished eating here. Where do I start! When we got there the floors were so slick you could hardly walk. We told the waiter and someone started to mop floors. My husband's silverware was dirty the waiter brought two new sets and one of them were dirty. My husband's French fries tasted like they were fried with fish grease and there were bats flying around our table. My food was good. The girl that was mopping proceeded to take a wet floor sign and wave it over the mopped floor. We had a party of 10, and were more than prepared to wait. When we walked in, we were told we'll put tables together "one minute ". 20 minutes later we were finally sat at our table.The food was excellent, the service, not so much. We went by last night for dinner. The waiter Cody was very friendly. He recommended the chicken fried chicken, which was really good. However the Texas toast was extremely hard and rice had alot of hard pieces. Think it's been over cooking all day. We returned the rice for mashed potatoes and they were okay. I had the sweet spicy chicken and shrimp. Main dish was really good, but again the rice underneath was a little hard. I dealt with it because the sauce softened it up a bit. My side salad had alot of black slime which I picked out. So overall we enjoyed the service from Cody and his trainer along with the main dishes. I came here to celebrate my 21st birthday with some friends, and it was initially very frustrating and embarassing. First, they mixed up the drinks: I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and they handed me a yellow-pink margarita (I thought it was my drink, so I didn't say anything and sipped a bit), before handing me the correct drink and taking that one away. Same with my friend, who after getting the wrong drink TWICE had to physically walk to the bar and get her drink corrected. Wow. Second, after my server ID'd me from the start, there was some talk from another waitress saying "You're giving alcohol to a kid" "ID her again," our server apologized asking for ID again when the other waitress stormed off saying, "I didn't wanna see it!" Manager didn't really do much to solve the problem, kinda just "hoped" we enjoyed our time and gave us a stupid speech on how people are looking younger these days. I've had Cheddar's in the past, and their food is alright. Not much variety, though my sweet-heat chicken and shrimp was good. Wow ok, gave this restaurant 3 chances and every time something went wrong. May just be me but still not going back any time soon. Friend had a worm in her burger the first time I tried the place out. Since it was in her burger I decided to give the place another shot and even then we found a roach in our drink. The third and final time was when I went with a couple of friends and sat at the bar, had a roach crawl up my leg. It's really sad to see this place has so many bad reviews. It is true that sometimes on weekends and at specific times it gets super busy and the food takes longer, ( I don't like that either) but hey! It's a restaurant not a fast food place. I've always had great customer service. I don't think this place deserves a bad review just because one time it didn't go right, give it another time, it might surprise you. Overall I think this place is great, if it takes a little long it's understandable depending on the day and hour you come at just like any other restaurant! The food is amazing here not to mention the prices! I've tried so many different things, some of my favorites are the Buffalo Chicken Wrapper, Santa Fe Spinach Dip, Smokehouse Burger, The Original Burger, the fries and ranch dip are amazing here also! Monte Cristo is amazing too! And also the Grilled Chicken Alfredo. I truly love this place, go at a time that is not as busy and give it a try. I recommend this place to anyone. The appetizer cheese fries were excellent. The service was soooooo slow. I had the vegetable plate. The broccoli rice casserole was dry, the corn over cooked and boring, baked sweet potato was good, green beans tasted like canned. The croissant was excellent. My husband had spasagna, which is lasagna made with spaghetti noodles. It was huge, very tasty. Daughter had 8oz steak, Mac and cheese, and broccoli. We went in on a Friday night, knowing cheddar's, we expects quite a long wait. We sat for about 30-35 minutes then were taken to our table, in the bar are, we were immediately disappointed but sat down anyway. The bar area proved to be not to be family friendly at all... Several obscenities, yelling, and inappropriate comments were flying through the air. We noticed one woman get upset because she didn't get her Pina colada refilled... She walked off to with her empty glass and made a break for the parking lot... Wow. The tortilla soup was delicious expect for the fact that there was noodles in it. Pops loved his cornmeal catfish and said he would be back fairly soon to eat more. Mom and sis shared a rib eye steak, it was cooked and seasoned very well. Lastly we ordered the chocolate cake as we dug in we realized that the cake had either been refrigerated too long or it had been frozen for a good while. Little to no chocolate flavor. I went with a party of 3 on a Saturday and were seated immediately in the bar area. The place was not packed like I would have expected for a weekend night . However we were seated in a section where NO server was assigned. Staff kept walking by ours and three other tables that had not been serviced yet. When we tried to call a server for attention and we were ignored. The bar staff could clearly see the frustrated tables yet about 5 of them just stood round in their own conversation. Dinned at cheddar's at the beginning of August 2014. We were steated after a 20 mins of waiting for a table at the half empty restaurant on a Monday evening. After being seated my girlfriend and I waited 5 minutes to get our drink orders. I ordered a Sam Adams draft which took 15 min because they didn't have any clean glasses. While waiting I used the restaurants bathroom facilities and noticed the paper towels were out and a kitchen cook used the restroom and did not wash his hands until I looked up at him before he returned to the sink. I finally received my food after 55 min at the restaurant to an a average cheese steak that was not terrible . The bread was not toasted as advertised and the waiter did not check up on us until after the meal. My girlfriend oreded chicken fried steak which was below par with "toast" not toasted. Long wait for subpar food and terrible service. One of the worst experiences I have had in awhile. Please fix!! read more

So disappointed. Each year we head to the coast for my bday and this is always my favorite spot to grab a bite to eat. But, for the 2nd year in a row, it's a disappointment. Last year we went around 6 and they were out of potatoes. WHAT? Who runs out of potatoes on a weekend before the lunch rush? This year, my sister ordered tortilla soup, again around 6 and they were out. Eight of us for dinner at 6:30. All single younger guys so I asked politely for a female server (after seeing 3 male waiters that seemed very gay pressing about) and the hostess looked as if her teeth were going to fall out and repeated thrice "you want a female?!?" After being seated, the waitress stayed at one end of the 3 tables slid together and made us at the other end holler out our drink orders to her. This was repeated with our hordourves as well as our entrees. I motioned for her 245 lb body to come to my end of table (I was paying the bill) so I wouldn't have to holler over all the noise and she looked peeved about this. Needless to say, the 4 of us who ordered the ribs suffered gastrointestinal issues as well as severe indigestion. 2 of us ordered a beer and it took them 15 more minutes after everyone else had their drinks. Then came the flies. When the food was delivered, it was brought by one of the gay dudes who wiped his mouth with his hand and delivered each serving with his saliva laden fingers touching the food. I ordered the Grilled Salmon with bourbon glaze. After a couple of bites I realized that the texture of the Salmon was off. I brought it home and found that only the outer layer of the 1 1/2" salmon fillet was cooked. The full inner part was completely raw. I called and spoke to Amanda, a manager, who apologized but pointed out that they do have an "undercooked disclaimer" on the menu. I informed her that people can get tapeworms from raw salmon and of course that was now a concern I had for me and anyone else that ordered salmon there. She offered that I go back to the restaurant to return it and they'd replace it with another. She also agreed to speak to the cooks. For the most part, Amanda handled the situation as best as she could but pointing out the disclaimer after I expressed my concern of tapeworms was probably not the right thing to do. For how long will I have to be concerned about getting tapeworms from this meal, I don't know. How this restaurant's management is ok with undercooking food just because they have a disclaimer is beyond my comprehension. Do they not have a legal & moral obligation to it's customers? Needless to say, I will not be going back to Cheddar's either to return the salmon or to dine there ever again. I went the other day with a friend and my younger daughter they were pretty busy because it was a Saturday night so we expected. Service was good then I had to go to the restroom and saw live roaches crawling around on the floor and my boyfriend said there was one behind me while I was eating but didn't want to me complain so he didn't tell me till we got home. Our server cleaned the table next to us then sat down and was waiting saying he was eating a quick snack, not professional at all. The hostesses insulted my 2 yr old because she had glasses laughing and saying haha her eyes are so big with those glasses. I didn't care if they heard me but I said um that was rude as hell wtf. I had not gone to cheddars in a while because the service is usually terrible the last time we had went the server completely forgot we ordered drinks and brought us our appetizer so my sister walked to the bar and found them sitting there melting. I wish I could rate this lower, and this is also coming from someone who has worked plenty of fast food, customer service and server jobs. We don't come here very often but when we do we never fail to get pathetic service. We came with a group of only 5 people. There was no wait time to be sat at the restaurant, the other servers seem to interact with their tables in surrounding sections very well and did not seem rushed so that server could not use the excuse that he was weeded out. Not one of us got a single water refill for 2 WHOLE HOURS until we asked for a manager. 2 of us ordered sides that didn't arrive until 30 minutes after they finished their meals. When we first arrived we got there with a positive attitude trying to figure out the menu instead of our server taking the opportunity to recommend us drinks or appetizers while we made a decision on an entrè, which we would have done would we not have received such sorry service. No. Instead we have to go through the inconvenience of making the moment sour for both ourselves and that poor teenage server who clearly doesn't have a lot of work experience. In the rare occasion they came by our table to drop something off, there was no dialogue, no explanation for what he was serving us, if he left he didn't even excuse himself or have any manners. Order to go, when I walked into the bar it was clean but had a smell that was awful. I keep my hand over my noise most of the Time I was there. I ordered the Wisconsin cheese bites. Went to this restaurant this evening. Husband had chicken tenders and was very good. I had a bowl of the chicken tortilla soup. The soup had 2 pieces of chicken and 1 tortilla and was very, very watery. I ask for some more of the crispy strips to help it out. I have had this soup many many times in other Cheddars restaurants and has been thick with chicken, and cheese and a lot of crispy strips on top. We haven't been in this restaurant for about a year and we used to have to wait in line. They have raised the prices and it seems the quality has gone down. Too bad! Yes this is a "casual dinning" restaurant chain, however everything about our service and food was not even up to these standards. We had a late lunch (2 PM) and were seated in the bar. We were seated in a timely fashion. Sever took our drink and appetizer order. Took about 10 minutes to get our drinks and another 15 to get our queso and chips appetizer. We were served drinks in styrofoam cups.Server said kitchen got slammed. We have been here in the past seeing alot more people than this.Chips were served on a platter instead of a basket. Had to get more chips(not near enough to finish the dip given us) I odered a ribeye(med) Got a blood drippin steak instead, cold baked potatoe and cold broccoli. On top if that we asked if you could sit in a spot where there wasn't a lot of talking then purposely she sat us in the most crowded area! We waited over an hour to be seated for a party of 8. Then they had a booth to seat 8 adults. Of course this was not big enough for us. The waiter said two of us could use the booth across the first booth thus splitting our party. We asked to speak to the manager. The waiter rudely rolled his eyes at us. Kitchen manager came and we explained our situation. Then the manager, Matthew Ramirez, comes and was no help at all. As I was explaining the situation, I placed my hand on his forearm. I work as a school nurse and I do this countless times a day when I speak to my students, but he took great offense to this and said that "nobody assaults the manager". This was the furthest thing from an assault and I did not touch him again when he voiced his concern about an "assault". This manager was then overheard saying to the kitchen manager for him not to give in to us. He also said his restaurant wasn't equipped to handle big parties. If he had told us this in the first place, we wouldn't have waited and would have just gone to another place. We were thoroughly disappointed. Everybody from the hostess to Matthew Ramirez the manager was very rude. The manager was very unprofessional. The only thing we were asking for was to be seated together, and this was too much for him to handle. We ended up taking our $130 and spent it at Rudy's. The waiter thought it was from a piece of butter that are on strips of thin paper and called the manager over. He didn't even give us a discount on our meal. First time at Cheddars today and it was not great at all...I would not recommend anyone to go to this place. First of all it took around 10 mins for our waiter to take our drinks and then another 10-15 mins for him to bring them to us. (and it was just for tea and cokes.) Then when he finally came back to take our order, he was too busy saying goodbye to his other table and checking to see if they left him a tip that he could not remember what we ordered. When he finally took our order, he repeated it and it was still not correct. Finally, corrected he went to place our order. My daughters meal came out around 20 mins later but the rest of us (my son, husband and myself) had to wait an additional 20 mins before our meal came out and thats because we all ordered the same thing...steak.....my husbands steak was the size of his thumb and they forgot to put his side items....my steak was cold and dry...so was my daughters....my son thought his was dry as well and we all ordered medium rare.....I had heard that this place was the best but believe me it was not.....my family and I will not go back to this place ever again....We were better off going to Texas Roadhouse or Montana Mikes.....Now those are the places to eat!!!! read more

Hungry after a day at the Beach and ready for a good meal stopped at Cheddar's on Padre Island Drive. We were seated after a few minutes even though it was a busy night and had an attentive waitress. Waiter and waitresses were busy going back and forth from tables to the kitchen when a wataer dropped a tray full of dirty dishes right next to our table. The Caesar salad splattered all over my legs and feet. Having been at the beach, I was wearing shorts, so of course when it splattered it felt like someone's saliva went all over my legs. It was gross. I wiped it with my napkin; however, no one brought me another napkin. The Manager's apology consisted of, "I apologize, thanks for your consideration." Are you kidding me - that's it! The worst part it smelled like someone puked. I was eating a hamburger and he had no consideration as to how gross it was, I couldn't even eat the rest of my food. The floor's there were too slippery for the staff and guests. The Manager should have had some consideration of how his customer felt and offered better Customer Service. Never again! read more

Cheddars was on a wait when I got there. I only had to wait 15 minutes and was taken to a booth that had dirty seats. The surrounding area on the floor was dirty as well. I ordered a drink from the bar and croissants to start off with. The croissants made it to the table first. I waited and waited for my drink until the waiter informed me that I would have to wait for someone else to finish their drink because they were low on bar glasses. I told himto ask thebartender to put it in a regular glass and that I did not have to have a martini glass. The waiter finally after about 10 minutes brought my drink which was made incorrectly.....it should have been drizzled with chocolate. When this was brought to his attention he politely apologized, removed my drink, and the wait for the return on my drink was on again. This time thereason was that the bar was backed up. Just as I was about to give up hope, the bartender appeared with my drink. We had been at the restraunt for an hour so far, and still no food. We did have plans to be somewhere so we asked the waiter for to go boxes and the check. He returned with the requested items and informed us that our food was ready but he could not bring it out because it was too hot! I have always been under the impression that is how food is supposed to be but maybe I am wrong. The food was ok, the server really tried, the kitchen and bar have some serious check time issues.
