I remember this restuarant favorably two years ago. The ribs, chicken pot pie, the beans and rice were all top dishes. It was disappointing this go around. The nacho chips were accompanied by wilty lettuce, limited pico, and sour cream that had been blended into the other ingredients. The chicken tortilla soup was cool on a busy Sunday night. The vegetables were less tasty and it seemed that the overall quality had slipped a little. This used to be a real steady place to stop after working a long Sunday. My family ate here for the first time tonight and it was a wonderful experience! The food was great, tasty & well priced. The atmosphere in the restaurant is well lit, stylish decor & booths very large & comfy. We ordered the chips & queso as an appetizer & were impressed with the fresh salsa. Our only complaint is they didn't provide enough tortilla chips initially but they happily gave us a second basket at no extra charge. Our entrees were fresh & tasty. My family ordered fried shrimp with fries & coleslaw, chicken tenders with fries & a burger with fries. The portions were well sized & everyone enjoyed their food! My husband and I ate here yesterday at about 3pm. The service was excellent but there was only one or two families in there. The atmosphere has a pleasant decor. My grilled salmon was excellently seasoned with rice underneath it. Mashed potatoes were great and the coleslaw was good. My husband had the ribs and they were tasty but too fatty. He also had broccoli cheese casserole and it was very good. The loaded baked potato was fairly good. He also had fried chicken that was fairly good. read more

I remember years ago when a Cheddar's opened in Seagirt New Jersey, while it didn't least long the restaurant left a huge impression for the food. Here several years later this one opened in Delaware and i had to go as soon as it opened. I have been there several times since it opened and have never had a bad experience. VERY disappointed. Possibly the worst bacon cheeseburger Ive ever had. In fact, I would rather have eaten at McDonald's (and I detest McDonald's). Had the WORST experience today at Cheddar's in Camden DE! Today's my 25th wedding anniversary and the ONLY placed I wanted to go was here! Well, they got my order wrong twice and to be honest that wasn't even that bad. It was the service or lack thereof from the floor walker, Megan, that has me extremely angry! She argued with me and proceeded to tell me I was wrong and the order was right when it CLEARLY was not. This went on for about 7 minutes until she walked away food in hand STILL screaming across the room that we were wrong! This is unacceptable behavior for anyone! She does not deserve to work in a service industry when she cannot control her temper, listen to the client, or attempt to resolve the issue opposed to escalating it! BEYOND ANGRY!!! I eat here ALL the time and I've NEVER experienced service or misconduct such as this!!! read more

If you've had a bad meal here, don't judge the chain by your experience. Cheddar's is usually a consistently good restaurant with excellent (made from scratch!) food, great value and good service. I've been a frequent Cheddar's customer for 16 years (all the way back to the original Cheddar's in Arlington, TX), and I don't think I've had this many problems in ALL of my meals COMBINED. We started our meal with chips and queso, one of our favorite appetizers at Cheddar's. After waiting about 10 minutes for it, we asked the waitress and explained that we don't want it if it was going to come out right before the meals. Within a minute, it was brought out and we were told that they would not be charging us for it. (And sure enough, salads came out less than a minute after that.) The chips were overcooked and there weren't many of them. The queso bowl was only 1/3 full and was thick and dried out. The salsa was fine. For my meal, I ordered a steak and tenders with salad and steamed broccoli. No croissant was served with the salad. The steak was overcooked (ordered medium rare, came out medium well) and was not served over the usual bed of onion straws (which makes a surprising difference in the taste). The chicken tenders were overcooked and instead of three big pieces, there was one small piece and about half a dozen dried out slivers about the size of cut green beans. I asked for honey mustard, which wasn't brought out with the meal. I asked again, and ranch was brought out. I gave up and just ate it. The steamed broccoli was undercooked, and even after returning it, it still came back undercooked. I didn't complain about the steak or the tenders, as I didn't want to delay our meal even further. The returned broccoli came back after I was done with everything else, and I didn't bother returning it a second time. Refills were slow, with our drinks staying empty most of the meal. We ordered a monster cookie while we were eating the meal, knowing it took a while. It took quite a bit longer than usual. I was overcharged for subbing a salad for one side (it's normally a small surcharge --- around $1, I think? -- to sub a salad for one side, but I was charged for an extra side) and the waitress refused to correct the bill. Even with all our problems, they never sent out a manager to talk to us. We expected to get in and out in 45-60 minutes (which is typical at Cheddar's), but it took a full 2 hours. This restaurant does not deserve to be called a Cheddar's. It looks like they just recently opened (May 2013), so perhaps they will improve with time. In the meantime, avoid it until you see the reviews getting better. read more

This was our second visit to this Cheddar's. We were looking forward to a repeat of our first great experience, but that did not happen. We were seated quickly and proceeded to wait a very, very long time for someone to get our drink order. The people in the table across from us, who were seated before us, seemed to be very annoyed that no wait staff had yet visited their table. Our waitress arrived at our table, and I suggested she go to the other table first, as they were there first, but another waitress showed up. We ordered our appetizer and entree at the same time as our drinks; we were wondering if our waitress would ever return if we didn't. Our appetizer arrived and shortly thereafter so did our entrees. I don't like it when there isn't enough time to properly enjoy the appetizer. We sat with empty drink glasses for way too long; we placed them at the end of the table hoping our waitress would notice. She did not. Eventually, towards the end of our meal, she came with refills. She did not return to ask how we were enjoying our entrees or if we needed anything. Our meals were just okay. My husband ordered catfish, but he didn't it was truly catfish. I ordered the chicken with rice and mushrooms. The mushrooms looked like they were just poured out of a jar onto the plate. My steamed broccoli side was over cooked and mushy. There were three bus boys at the table behind us cleaning one table; maybe they could get promoted to wait staff. The waitress came quickly with our bill when we asked for it. However, she never returned for our money, so we left it, with a small tip, on the table. The restaurant was not crowded enough for such poor service. I don't know what happened to the food quality from the last visit. read more

I have to say, you can go here and get a good tasty meal at a fair price along with a modern and clean atmosphere. On a budget but still want decent food and a clean restaurant? Then this is the place. They have a nice lounge section as well with tvs for the sports people and a beautiful large, well-maintained exotic fish tank to watch instead of the tv if you choose, lol. The menu has a good variety of foods to offer including, steak, fish, salads, chicken, soups & good ol southern food if that's your desire. Some people have mentioned that they have had poor service there but the servers have been great for me. Occasionally the cook has had to recook my salmon, but it happens. :-) read more

I first tried a Cheddars in Omaha, NE and it quickly became one of our favorite family restaurants. Now we have moved to Delaware and this location is just as impressive! Now it's our favorite restaurant in this area. There may be a line at times but well worth the wait. Six Months Later: Ok, this place went south upon arrival! I brought my family out at 7pm on a Saturday night and all I can is never again on a Saturday night! We are a family of 5 including young kids but that seemed to be a "large party" here. So we sat for 45 minutes as several others arrived and were seated. As with anywhere, the first impression is the most important. The hostesses didn't say welcome nor were they apologetic for the long wait. The food service however was outstanding. Our waitress was apologetic and even brought us some croissants to make up for our bad experience. The food was exceptionally fast as well. For that, I only dropped it 1 star. Here we are again on Mother's Day 2018 and our experience was even worse! First off, I work in the customer service industry as a server so I don't write this update lightly. We arrived with family so we were a party of 8. First we waited and were soon seated in a small booth that would never support 8 place settings. Then we were re-issued a new pager and waited, and waited, and waited! What was to be a 20 min wait turned out to be way more than twice that. The big issue was that we had seen table after table get seated, many next to each other that could have worked for us but the hostesses had 1 particular table they were waiting to seat us at. I spoke to the hostess several times and eventually the manager explaining we would sit near each other as tables had come available but they continued to sit other people at those tables until the 1 table became available. To save our experience from being any worse, the manager did give us 2 free appetizers. It helped with the hunger pains since the place became mobbed with customers while we waited causing our order to take forever, completely unlike any other visit we've had here. So, note to self, avoid this restaurant on any holidays, especially Mothers Day! read more

I ordered -to go- and the food took 1 and 1/2 hours longer than the 15 minutes they initially told me only to find out the stupid bartender with the dreads carelessly never checked my order or to see if it was actually ready so it was on the counter for that long period of time. After getting belligerent up In there the managers apologized to me and gave me my $30 meal for free and said they remade my food (which was a lie it was still cold) and offered me free food in the future with a card so I was potentially happy. When I got home most of the food tasted terrible. I won't be doing take out from there ever again. Hungry when traveling and looking for a healthy place to eat, I stopped in here on route 13 because "scratch" was a good sign. The food was good...not quite as good as I was hoping...but better than the usual road meal. What set this place apart for me was the kind and caring ladies who treated this out of town stranger like a friend. My server found a way to meet my every need (my phone needed a charge for example). The shift manager came out and gave me two chocolate chip cookies for the road. They showed a lot of genuine caring in our brief chats and provided a nice balance between professional efficiency and personal touch. Usually I'm not a fan of chain restaurants but this small chain has a good model and culture I hope they can maIntain as they grow. Last and best surprise....you can order a tiny dessert...pie in a shot glass...for only $1.50. Great way to have a sweet ending without adding 800 calories to your day or $10.00 to your bill. When Cheddar's was being built here in Dover and we didn't know what it was, we were excited to get a new restaurant. Unfortunately, the name went up and I was very disappointed. I had eaten at Cheddar's before and the food was awful. It was pre-made, Frozen in individual packages and a lot of microwaving was done... This is what the waitress told me when I asked if an item could be changed from the menu description to remove an ingredient. Still I agreed to go there once it is opened so that my family would realize the truth of what I told them. Not only was the food really unpleasant, the service was terrible. Still the restaurant parking lot is often packed in the evenings. I suppose there's no accounting for taste. If you aren't picky and will eat just about anything, you may like it... Wow I couldn't believe how cheap and for a moment it took me back to my grandmothers table for our family Sunday dinners when I was a kid. It's mostly a southern style home cooking! We didn't have to wait to long for seating! Our server seemed to of been really busy but surprisingly efficient! Not knowing what to expect because the name Cheddars leaves you with the idea the menu would revolve around cheese. And when we looked over the menu I only found 3 items that even had cheddar cheese as an ingredient! The menu had such a large variety. Covering all bases covering every food group! Portions were large enough to even take some home! We did have a small problem I guess because the portion was so big it filled the plate with only room for one side item on the plate and because of that I think they forgot to bring me my other side. I was a lil overwhelmed and didn't notice it till I was half way through my meal but some how even in all the chaos the server seemed to be experiencing realized it before I did asked me if I still wanted the missing side and brought it right out to me. I was of course tipping the full side of the scale and ended up taking it home but our server gave us a tip!!!!! Something I've never thought of and if your like me I never eat my leftovers even if at the time I take them think I will. So the suggestion was with most leftovers from any place you can use a cupcake pan and have reinvented breakfast muffins. Chop leftovers add to greased cupcake pan beat eggs to fill and top with Cheese then garnish with your favorite fresh herbs! So I took the advice and to my surprise It was wonderful not only did I get good use from my potentially un eaten leftovers and created a useful and delicious breakfast the next day!!! My husband and I stopped today for what we thought would be a nice quiet lunch. We have been here before and wanted to enjoy it again. My husband is a 100% disabled veteran (remember not all wounds are visible) and we have a small service dog. When greeted by a hostess we always identify as 2 people and a service dog. My husband or I always wear a lanyard with her identification. Brian Holochwost is service manager at this Cheddar's. When the hostess seated us, she immediately went in search of Mr. Holochwost. He came to our table to inform us (very professionally) that the service dog had to go under the table. She is a small dog (mini doxy) and is easily stepped on when placed under your feet. Without going into medical details, I need to see her when she alerts, to know my husband is in distress medically. While the manager was making his phone calls or whatever he was doing, trying to decide if we could stay, how did he know that one of us wasn't going into a diabetic emergency? If you're worried about where my dogs nose is, where would a German Shepard or Lab's be if they were sitting next to us? When you clean your tables, if you wipe off not only the tops but the sides (which you should any way), then there shouldn't be a problem. Companies need to train your people to better understand what a service dog is and next time please check the person with the dog to make sure they are ok! By the time you decided what to do, we were down the street ordering. This experience was sad cause I kinda liked Cheddar's, but won't risk anyone's life while someone decides what he can and can't do! read more

Everything was fine until after my order was taken. I ordered steak and grilled shrimp and a Caesar salad. I sat at the bar. Steak came out before the salad. Bartender goes back to kitchen and brings out my Caesar salad. It was not shaken with the dressing. Just a small amount of dressing dribbled on a pile of half dead lettuce and not even enough dressing for the whole salad. Baked potato was cold. Butter was not melted and the potato was not cooked all the way. I wanted AI sauce but after I got my meal, neither of the bartenders even asked how my meal was. My iced tea ran out and no one refilled it. The male bartender kept breaking out in song, which is not appropriate for the atmosphere Cheddar's is trying to portray. The female bartender was flustered and kept slamming things. After my meal no one removed my plates. It took 10 Minutes for someone to pick up my credit card. There was a number to call a satisfaction survey on my receipt. The male bartender saw it then grabbed my receipt, crumpled it, and threw it away so I could not call. He did not invite me to call. When I left the dirty dishes from my meal were still on the bar. read more

We visited Cheddars when they first opened. We were very unhappy with both the food and service. We did not go back for a while but decided to give them another try. We couldn't believe this was the same place. The food and service was outstanding. I had the Key West Chicken & Shrimp and my wife had the Sweet Heat Chicken & Shrimp which happened to be an under 575 calorie dish. The flavors were rich, the portions were just right, the ambience was great (we were surprised how nice it was considering the price points of their meals) and the service was outstanding. The servers all seemed pleasant and happy to be there. We will definitely be visiting Cheddar's on a regular basis. read more

This was our first time dining at a Chedders. The exterior looked very pleasant and welcoming. It claims to be a scratch grille which we were honestly not even sure what that was. We walk inside and it's not bad. A little Cracker Barrel-ish. Seated right away by a hostess with a warm smile. The menu was not too shabby. Nice Selection of American food. Good prices too. But after 15 minutes with no waitress we were eager to order. Finally she arrives. We order our food. When we inquired what type of cheese was in the Wisconsin cheese bites we were given a sarcastic reply "Wisconsin Chedder" as if to imply there was no option but Wisconsin cheddar. She leaves. Tens minutes then the Wisconsin bites come out. No drinks yet. Okay. We dig in. The bites were mozzarella. I guess there were other cheeses after all... Eat those over 15 minutes. Still no drinks. Quite thirsty at this point. Had to flag down the waitress with considerable effort. She grabs our drinks and gives us some song and dance about the kitchen messing up. Hmmm. Our food shows up. Missing our side salad.. And more importantly our silverware. Some more flagging required to recover those items. So now the food, chicken pot pie was good. Steak was very well cooked. Tasty. Chicken fingers were horrid. Mac and cheese was decent. Green beans not what I expected. So food was pretty good overall. Clearly the kitchen is not blame here. Towards the end of our meal our waitress manages to pop by, possibly to redeem herself from her previous follies and offers us refills on our low drinks. Then disappears. Never to return. One can only hope she was fired mid shift due to lack of competence. Paid our bill and will most likely not be returning to Chedders. "Scratch" that off the list. read more
