I've been here twice and both times have been a disaster, I'm not lookinf forward to a third time here. The first time I came to Cheddars I was excited, everyone said it was good, ect. Well as we are eating this poor old man falls down on the floor and atleast 6 waiters go by and NO ONE HELPS THE MAN UP. And the manager just stands there talking to the old man who stayed on the ground for atleast 20min, The Seconds time coming here I got FOOD POISONING which I have never gotten before! I ordered the chicken and waffles, which the waffels were burned so I didn't even eat them and the chicken was ok other than the fact it gave me horrible food poisoning for a week. Hostess seated us (2 adults and 2 kids) on the bar side after waiting 15 minutes , which was ok . Once seated we received our menus and a waiter came to attention . We asked for a high chair for our 1 year old and they said they could not do that on the bar side. THEY seated us and it was obvious we needed one but they did not budge . They sent us back to waiting area and once we were seated. The waiter we received was inattentive . Bad service overall .THe beer was not cold and it was flat as well. Maybe just a bad one time thing . On a previous visit, there was a live roach by the wall in booth area. We notified manager on the down low just to let him know ( we're not type of people to make a stink or ask for handouts, just a heads up). Service needs to improve. read more

Did not love this place what so ever! Went three times with my partner and friends and every time I went it wasn't worth my money. I do like their croissants and their raspberry tea but other than that nothing from their menu. I also have a conspiracy that they microwave the wrong plates that went to people and give it to someone else that order the same dish (to save supplies). Reason I say that is because my partner and I went (place was packed) and we order the chicken strips and less than 5 minutes they brought our food... After writing on my receipt, " the first impression is the best impression..." she responded with something along the lines of " I dont worry about tips becuase I dont work for free." With it's quality of food, variety of cuisines, reasonable prices, and overall ambiance, Cheddar's Casual Cafe has quickly become Brownsville's newest eatery of choice. Though early on the wait-times for a table and some poor service were an issue, Cheddar's seems to have worked past its growing pains--with both the wait times and service becoming more reasonable. Chedder's scratch kitchen is truly fresh food. We have visited Chedder's 4 times in the past 2 weeks because the prices are very reasonable but the food is amazing!!! The food here is terrific and the waiter is one of the best. Not only polite but he knows his menu down cold. BUT!!!! The water is horrible. A place this nice can't afford to put in RO or filter their water. The tea was terrible, the ice water and ice are horrible and the mixed sodas are bad too. This town's water is very bad tasting so the restaurant industry should be making a far better effort. This otherwise pleasant experience was severely marred by something so simple. I've stopped by at least a half dozen times and each time has been worse than the last. It seems like there is no order to how the employees go about their business. It takes them soo long to acknowledge your presence, and even longer to attend you. My orders have been wrong 4 out of nine times, and there was a time that my corn had broken glass in it. Also, I recognize some employees that were fired from other places for less than ethical behavior. This place needs to straighten up and not only hire kids that are still in high school, because every time I go I have to get after someone who is not doing their job. not worth the headache. While in Brownsville for a funeral we went to cheddars one night for dinner. We frequent the Cheddar's in our home town and have gotten great service and food. Well that was not the case here at the Brownsville Cheddar's. The waitress could not take our order correctly from the beginning. She couldn't get the right dressing for one of our salads. Was suppose to be blue cheese and she brought ranch. My wife ordered a swirl margarita and she didn't offer to help just said it's on the menu. She also said no salt and it had salt all over the rim. She brought out the salads and in just one minute she brought our dinners before we had time to even take two bites of the salad. I ordered a philly cheese steak sandwich and broccoli casserole and she brought me steamed broccoli. When told she brought the wrong side she did bring the casserole. Then when we were ready to pay she was no where to be found we had to go looking for her. Our guest had been there prior to this night with her daughter and my wife and had the same experience. I don't think we will be going back nor my guest who lives there in Brownsville. Staff needs training on service. You do not bring the entree out at the same time as the salad. My wife and I happened to be passing by Cheddars on our way to Denny's today and decided to try this restaurant for the first time. Our first impression was, this must be high end from the looks outside. I ran in and looked at a menu and was surprised to see very reasonable entries. I brought my wife in and was very impressed with the ambiance ( much nicer than Denny's LOL). We both had the chicken & shrimp on rice for under $10 each which was delicious. The server was great and the manger came over to talk to us and gave us two cookies to go. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning. read more

I went out today to eat out and the server was horrible. I'm not sure of his name but he's bald on top with a long pony tail, oldish man. He had maybe 3 tables and couldn't hack it. He took forever to refill our drinks, he ignored us several times when we called him over. My cousin ordered and some salmon with a bake potato and everything on the side, when the plate came out the butter, and cheese was on there. My friend ordered a salad and there was no croutons, cheese, nor the salad dressing she had asked for. I had ordered a chicken Alfredo without carrots, when the plate came out it was a small piece of chicken, some noodles were cold, and there wasn't broccoli. I had then asked for a side of broccoli and he had forgotten until 20 minuets later I got it. Really bad server. Awful. To add on, he also messed up our checks. Management needs to speak to him, or he need to re-evaluate how he acts. read more

Cheddar's is our family's "go to" place when we want to 1. Get a great value for the money and 2. Eat dinner while a slow turning sideways mounted ceiling fan rotates overhead.. We've been to Cheddar's for events, birthdays, get-togethers, etc.. Hell, my wife even met me over there for dinner the night she broke the news to me that she was running off with my personal injury attorney.. but, man.. certainly the most delicious way to get an atom bomb dropped on your head, right? The one thing that stands out about Cheddar's to me in addition to the excellent meals, is not just the service, but the overall feeling you get that can only come from eating at a restaurant that truly seems to care that you get a good value. I've never eaten a bad steak or any other meal there.. We have always been able to expect a 100% great time.. and this applies to the McAllen location as well.
