Yesterday, my family and I held a birthday celebration for my eight-year old niece at Cheddar's. We had a party of 20 people and because the restaurant does not take reservations, we had to wait two hours before we were seated. Since I've been to this restaurant a few times, I knew it was a mistake try to host a birthday party here on a Saturday, as it stays extremely busy on weekends. If you are not there when the restaurant opens, consider eating somewhere else or come back during the week. However, my sister made these party arrangements for her little daughter and I was happy to just play the role as supportive uncle.
Once we were seated, we were divided into three neighboring table, which was not a problem. However, the problem arose when one server was assigned to two of the tables and one server to the third table. The server that was assigned to the two tables was a young man who was very attentive, brought our food and drinks accordingly, and was very accommodating to any of our order specializations. However, the second server must have been new, as her service was shoddy at best. The particular young lady was slow and inconsistent. There were people at her table who finished eating before food for others even came out. Additionally, some of our guests received their food, but had to wait 10-15 minutes or silverware or steak sauce before they could even eat. Of course by this time, there food was cold.
At this moment, it was time to meet the manager. One of the managers, Ben, swooped in and saved the day. He politely addressed all of our concerns, answered any questions we had, and accommodated us as best he could. By the end of our meals, we were pleased with how everything turned out and how it was handled.
Speaking of the meals . . . The big draw about this restaurant is affordable pricing for the quality, variety and portion size. Don't get me wrong, this is not a five star restaurant, so lower your expectations. However, for the price, you will be pleasantly surprised and satisfied. There is no meal on the menu over $15 and they provide a variety of food to satisfy any palette. From classic appetizer offerings such as Spinach Dip, Cheese Fries, Ultimate Nachos, Onion Rings, and Chicken Tenders to some of the entree favorites like the Country Fried Chicken Fried Chicken, Grilled Salmon (which can also be blackened), Ribs & Shrimp, and New Orleans Pasta, it reminds me of a better Ruby Tuesday with lower prices. I like the fact that the Chicken Tender appetizer comes with fries, as it could serve as your meal if you're on a budget. There drinks are pretty good, and relatively inexpensive. If you don't drink alcohol, the sweet tea is delicious, especially with the variety of infused flavor options (I always get the raspberry tea). However, if you are sensitive to sweet, it may be too sweet for you. If you are into the spirits, Cheddar's offers a variety of drinks, but the Cheddar's Painkiller, Spiked Strawberry Lemonade, and the Maui Margarita are all winners. If you still have room for dessert, Cheddar's doesn't offer a lot of selection, but just enough to satisfy that sweet tooth. Their $2 Dessert Minis are extremely small, coming in a shot glass, but are fine if you just want a little something to cap off your meal. However, if you really want to indulge and don't mind the calories, then go with the Hot Fudge Cake Sundae. This is a huge slice of homemade fudge cake, served with ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts and a cherry, enough for two or three people to share. How could I forget to mention the Honey Butter Croissants? Do yourself a favor and get them!!! At $2.99 for three small croissants, it's a little pricey, but you won't be disappointed. My cousin, who is trying to watch her figure, referred to these croissants as "The Devil".
To summarize, Cheddar's offers good food and great prices. If you don't mind long waits, spotty service, and an electric urban clientele, you will be pleased with your food, and most importantly, your bill. Please check out my attached photos. read more
