I had the worst experience at this location today. When I first walked into the location, there was a lady at the window who did not greet me or wave me up to the window to help. I stopped in the middle of the store waited until we made eye contact and asked her was she ready? When I walked up to the window, she began to examine my check with a very unprofessional look on her face. There was an endorsement from my personal bank so she proceeded to ask me why didn't I just cash it there? I advised her my account was overdrawn and I just wanted to cash the check. She then proceeded to question me about why I waited to cash the check since it was dated from a month or so ago, but did not expire until August 25. She then asked me to go get the remit. I went back to my vehicle. She then proceeded to verify the check although it was pass the time the bank was open as it was listed on the check. I had to answer a series of questions that I feel were racially motivated. I had to explain my personal bank situation, why I dont check my mailbox often, etc as if I was a criminal. After she couldn't verify the check, she said I didn't have a profile and asked me to write my SSN on a piece of paper that she never gave back. As she was "setting up my profile" I was on the phone with my friend who also heard the conversation and stated some concern. As we discussed the matter and how I was being treated the same lady shoved my check back and said she wasnt cashing my check. She had no reason. I did not yell, raise my voice or insult this lady. When it was all done and I asked why she said she couldnt verify the check, so I asked why she wanted my SSN AFTER that... she had no response. While I was on the phone with corporate in the store she proceeded to argue with the rep on the phone and me. She also asked me to verify my address 2xs after I told her I just got it out the mailbox (I live in a nice neighborhood) When I said yes I live there, I dont live around here (because I drove a few miles), she proceeded to say I dont live around here either as if the neighborhood was so bad and its a predominantly black neighborhood this location is in. This lady Lisa, who stated shes been with the company for 30 years should have much better customer service.
I know im not over exaggerating because when I left I drove to the PSL Check Cashing location on Cleveland and Weber and they greeted me as I walked in, looked at my check, politely went to his manager and reviewed the endorsement, came back asked for my SSN, updated my profile, GAVE ME BACK THE PAPER WITH MY SSN, took my pic, and cashed my check. I was there for about 5 mins! I did not get interrogated or asked any questions about my personal banking, why I chose to come to a check casher, why I didnt check my mailbox. I feel like things like this are so overlooked and African Americans are stereo typed as I was running errands and was not nicely dressed but had gym clothes on.. I was asked about my address as if I couldn't possibly still reside there. We need to speak out more when these things happen so they can stop. Treat people with respect no matter how you view them.
AND THE GAG IS.... the check was only for $229.00 smh read more
