In reading all the national press about PEI's recent political debacles, one of the funniest public…read morecomments I came across was: "It's 11 o'clock in Toronto, 1953 in PEI". In many ways, this is true (certainly over at the Legislative Assembly, where Boss Tweed seems to have been reincarnated multiple times in the guise of an uneducated gang of greedy island fops). So every new food initiative which opens on PEI, whether it be a restaurant, a chip stand, or a food truck, is a small but very welcome miracle. Food restores the soul, and reminds us that there is hope. Recent rumbles of concern over in Summerside about there possibly being too many food trucks (uh, I believe they have three or four now... not exactly the Charge of the Light Brigade) is typically foolish small town politics and parochialism- it's just so darn silly you have to laugh or you will cry. So it is a very fortunate thing that Chef Norman, originally from Nicaragua, raised in Costa Rica, has brought his delicious concoctions and his warm and welcoming personality to the streets of this small island city. Menu items include a drop-dead delicious poutine with Norman's own home made gravy, beautifully seasoned pulled pork sandwiches, poboy sandwiches, fresh fish tacos, fried oyster tacos, a real caesar salad; and there's always something new which Chef Norman is more than willing to describe to you in minute detail (like the way he uses a local garlic guy's very own home made "black garlic"' liquified into a fabulous sauce. Mmmm. Mmmm. Gooooood!! This guy is a gem, and his cooking positively shimmers with inventiveness. Go. Eat. Live.

Looked like it was going to taste good and it did! We had:…read moreLobster Poutine that consisted of gravy, curds, chunks of lobster and fries (with a hint of oysters, likely from the deep frier). Po Boy which has deep fried oysters, black garlic moonshine sauce, and pickled slaw aioli in a bun. The fries were great too. Definitely recommend!

After watching numerous episodes of Eat St and having a few food trucks open up here in Halifax…read more(though too far away for me to hit them at lunch), how cool is it that my first food truck experience was in my home town while on vacation. I didn't peruse the menu, wish I had at least taken a pic so I could tell you what the basics are. As soon as I saw the Crazy Fries and Aranachi Balls, I knew I'd found nirvana. Two of us ordered up one of each to share. So the crazy fries are covered in chunks of pulled pork, cheese curds, a cheese sauce and their own BBQ sauce. Talk about a big plate of artery clogging goodness! And the Arancini balls, rice wrapped around cheese, breaded, deep fried and presented with a marinara sauce for dipping. Really, what's not to like about all that? All of that with with a bottle of water and can of pop came to just over $21. It is cash only so come prepared. Nestled into it's own cradle next to the Butcher Shop at the north end of Central Street. There are a few picnic tables nearby. They have a Facebook page where they post some daily or weekly specials. As with most food trucks they have only so many servings of items available a day, so if you see something you like, get there early. It's kind of a good thing I don't have access to a food truck everyday but wish I could get here more often.

So you know that place that cooks the shit out of their fish so that the thin ends are chewy? So…read morechewy that you can't even chew them? That was my fish & chip special $9.99 The "two piece" ended up being 3 tiny pieces which only meant more thin surface area to turn rubbery and unchewable The chips were plentiful but not homemade, sone kinda frozen ones I think. The pulled pork was white and oven cooked, a big disappoint. I am all for the concept of food trucks, but only if the food is good. Will not return.
