I hate to write a bad review about any restaurant, let alone a small family run business, but I feel I must be honest in the hopes that they see this and use it as constructive criticism to improve their business. I have been twice and both times was not very impressed. The first time was in the summer of 2020, I ordered a #1 combo which came with Chinese style noodles and honey mustard chicken. It was listed on their menu as a $9 option, with 15% tax should come to around $10.35, but I was charged more, I forget the exact amount, but it was like $12 or $13. I didn't say anything at the time, the person working there was very friendly, and I felt a bit bad. But I also did not leave a tip. I figured they took the tip out automatically.
Now the food itself was not horrible, but it also was not something that I felt was made with the best quality ingredients. The chicken was all cheap cuts like thighs and legs. The texture and taste of the chicken was a bit strange, I didn't end up eating all of it. It tasted a bit like it had been left at room temperature for a bit too long before being cooked, but I can't be sure because I wasn't inside their kitchen. The noodles were OK, but very salty and a bit dry. Overall I was unimpressed, and actually ended up having cramps and diarrhea later that day.
Very recently I was in Riverview with my girlfriend around supper time, and we were looking for a place to eat. I figured I would give them another try. Again they were very nice when I had gone the first time, and I figured maybe they had improved the food. Unfortunately I was disappointed again. The service was very good, the man who served me was very nice. The problems were the same as the first time, they charged me too much, and the food was not great. So this time I ordered The chef's choice, which is listed at $10, It comes with Mango chicken, noodles or rice, I got the rice, and mixed vegetables. My girlfriend got the #1 Combo that included Beef and Broccoli, and noodles, listed at $9. I also got two orders of chicken dumplings, three dumplings per order listed at $2 each, so $4 for both. So far My meal is $10, My GF's meal is $9, and the two orders of dumplings are $4 total, so we are at $23 before tax, with the 15% tax added it should have been around $26.45, he charged me $35.65! Almost $10 more than it was supposed to be! This time I again did not say anything because of nice he was, and I felt bad, like maybe they are struggling a bit, and I saw they had some young kids running around. I know times are tough all around, but if you need to charge more, then you should update your menu, because the way they charge is very confusing. I did ask for a receipt, I was given the transaction receipt, which doesn't break down the cost, and he did give me a handwritten order receipt, but again, no price breakdown on there of what I was charged for.
The food itself was again not as good as we would have liked. The rice was OK, but did not have a lot of flavour. The mixed vegetables were the same, OK but not much flavour. The mango chicken is basically just cheap cuts of chicken battered and deep-fried, then smothered in a sweet sauce that doesn't taste all that much like mangoes. Like the first time, the chicken had an off taste like it had been left out too long before being cooked. I again found myself suffering from cramps and diarrhea afterwords. The dumplings were fried, not steamed, we prefer steamed. Stuffing was a bit spongy and reminded me of store bought frozen dumplings. My GF said the noodles were bland and dry, and the broccoli in the beef and broccoli was good, but the beef was very chewy. She couldn't finish it, and said it had the taste and texture of a cheap cut of beef.
So basically after having went there twice and being overcharged for sub par food that made me sick, we have decided that we will definitely not be back. I really do hope they read this and start working on these issues so that their food can become great. Also, they should always charge the price on the menu, if the prices have gone up they should update the menu. Or put someone at the window with fewer people skills and more math skills. read more
