After watching numerous episodes of Eat St and having a few food trucks open up here in Halifax…read more(though too far away for me to hit them at lunch), how cool is it that my first food truck experience was in my home town while on vacation. I didn't peruse the menu, wish I had at least taken a pic so I could tell you what the basics are. As soon as I saw the Crazy Fries and Aranachi Balls, I knew I'd found nirvana. Two of us ordered up one of each to share. So the crazy fries are covered in chunks of pulled pork, cheese curds, a cheese sauce and their own BBQ sauce. Talk about a big plate of artery clogging goodness! And the Arancini balls, rice wrapped around cheese, breaded, deep fried and presented with a marinara sauce for dipping. Really, what's not to like about all that? All of that with with a bottle of water and can of pop came to just over $21. It is cash only so come prepared. Nestled into it's own cradle next to the Butcher Shop at the north end of Central Street. There are a few picnic tables nearby. They have a Facebook page where they post some daily or weekly specials. As with most food trucks they have only so many servings of items available a day, so if you see something you like, get there early. It's kind of a good thing I don't have access to a food truck everyday but wish I could get here more often.

So you know that place that cooks the shit out of their fish so that the thin ends are chewy? So…read morechewy that you can't even chew them? That was my fish & chip special $9.99 The "two piece" ended up being 3 tiny pieces which only meant more thin surface area to turn rubbery and unchewable The chips were plentiful but not homemade, sone kinda frozen ones I think. The pulled pork was white and oven cooked, a big disappoint. I am all for the concept of food trucks, but only if the food is good. Will not return.

This vibrantly yellow truck on Pictou's waterfront has been piquing my interest all summer long,…read moreand I was finally able to grab a bite recently while in the area. The menu is mostly what you'd expect from an East Coast chip wagon - fries, burger, hotdogs and fish and chips - but it does have a few items to stand out a little bit, like deep fried pepperoni, mozza sticks and a steak sandwich. We areived close to closing time, so they were out of fish and I went with their cheeseburger instead. My wife chose good ol' mozza sticks. It was a short wait, and it'd ve hard to complain with the water views anyway, and we soon had our hearty fare. My cheeseburger was minimally adorned, with just the cheese and some fried onions (optional), although you could top it yourself with ketchup and mustard by the trailer's window. The flavour was classic diner burger, with a crisp crust from cooking on a flat top, and the melty cheese and fried onions were *chef's kiss*. A lightly toasted bun further supported these spot-on burger fundamentals. With apps like mozza sticks, whether at a food truck or pub, you know they're coming from a freezer bag. However, they were still properly cooked, with golden-brown breading and melty cheese inside. The flavour took me back to my days of crushing orders of these at The Thistle for dinner while working weekend shifts at Aberdeen Cinemas! While it'd be nice to see a few more specialty dishes and/or add-ons (bacon?!) at Mama Red's, mother definitely knows best and is doing what she does very well.

I would have liked more lobster and less sauce and fixins on my lobster roll…read more The salad was very good! I don't normally like vinaigrette dressing. This was maple vinaigrette. It was so good !! Always good to get a root beer that doesn't have caffeine in it and a nice cold water too. Maple ice cream inside the market. So good! The menu has some excellent variety with some clever twists on some otherwise familiar sounding dishes. We had the fish and slaw sandwich, fish tacos, and the grilled cheese. They were all absolutely delicious. My 12yr old declared the grilled cheese the best she's ever had. The fish was meaty and perfectly battered. The fish tacos had a zingy sauce and colorful mix of lettuce, black beans, and corn. It's a great stop for families as well. I'd easily drive an hour to eat at this place. They have picnic tables, a kids menu, a bouncy pad jump area, and some goats! We didn't try any of the lobster themed dishes which turned out to be a sad decision. The chef told me they catch their own lobster!! In fairness he only told me after we had eaten. Good excuse to come back. We hope this place is around for years and years to come. It's truly outstanding and worth your time (and money)!!
