Used Mike for years and loved him. It is my understanding that he retired and now Matt has the business. Asked him to come fix a leaky chimney. I appreciated how he took photos of the damage to the flashing so I could see. He then painted it with a tar like substance and a few months later it is leaking again. Called another person who came and said that what had been done was a band aid and, for the same price Matt charged, offered to replace the flashing AND guarantees his work for 10 years. read more

We've been using this company to sweep our lined chimney attached to a wood stove for a few years now. Prices have gone up since their first job with us, but within reason. I recently called the number here on Yelp and the man who answered is not the most genteel, customer service operator I've ever spoken to. However, being a bit gruff is not a reason to get put off and we scheduled an appointment. On the day of our most recent work, a two man crew (it's always two, always men) showed up on time and they get right to work. One man is always a bit chatty, which is fine. The other is all business, while still being friendly and personable; he's been here before. The entire job takes no more than 15 minutes. Everything is clean and put back in order before they go. We have used Cheaper Sweeper for several years for our pellet stove. We recently needed to replace our igniter and I called several places. Cheaper Sweeper was significantly cheaper than the other company I contacted by more than $250+ and they also did a full service on my stove that the other company was not going to complete. They were able to come in two days vs a two to three week wait. Bill and Tim were on time, professional and cleaned up nicely after the servicing. They also really know their pellet stoves and gave us tons of helpful hints and recommendations. I cannot recommend them enough for pellet stove work! read more

Great technicians, owner Mike is dishonest, full of excuses, and sneaky. AVOID. This will be a long review so if you're wondering if you should use this company please read below: Called them based on a recommendation for water dripping down the chimney into the fire box every time it rained. The technicians showed the same day and checked the chimney thoroughly and it was determined I'd need a new chase cover and they'd bring the measurements back to the owner and he'd call with an estimate. Received the call and agreed to the work and order was placed 8/1. I was told it would be in by about two weeks from that date. So far I was pleased. 6 weeks later work wasn't done yet. I contacted the owner asking about the work, and he gave me a whole story about how they didn't have a good system for keeping track of orders, and they had a cover in the back that they didn't know who it was supposed to go to, so that must've been mine. (Should've been my first red flag) Was then informed that if the cover was indeed for my chimney, it would be in by the weekend. Weekend came and went, no cover. No contact from company explaining anything So I contacted the owner again. He then told me oh it turns out that the cover was the wrong size because the company who manufactures them sent the wrong one. Then said they had to order another one and it would be installed as soon as it was in. No other communication after that until the last week of September when I came home and had a post card in my mail box that said the cover had been installed. Finally. We figured that would be the end of it, until it rained that weekend and water was still dripping into the fireplace. Contacted the owner once again and said that as he could imagine I was upset that after paying so much money, the problem wasn't fixed and that I would appreciate a call or email back to discuss getting it fixed...again. No response. I came home on 10/5 to find the technicians at my house working on the chimney. They explained it was most likely the flue cap, and put a new one on, then handed me a $200 invoice for work I had never received a quote for or agreed to and left. Fist of all, you couldn't have determined that from the original inspection? Now I'm being charged $200 additional for something that was supposed to be fixed the first time around? I contacted the owner once again and requested him to contact me back to discuss the invoice since I had never agreed to it or heard anything from him, etc. No response. Fast forward to today, I get another copy of the invoice in the mail. So I called again and actually got in touch with the owner. I expressed my disappointment in his lack of communication and he proceeded to berate me over the phone, gave me excuse after excuse for not contacting me. Then even tried to claim that he did contact me but my mailbox must have been full...all BS. Excuse after excuse of well he struggles to keep up with the paperwork and how he has 50 post-it notes on his desk of calls he has to make and he goes through them all every day. I tried numerous times to explain my distaste for how he was handling the situation and he kept saying "well you needed a flue cap and they put one on, so you have to pay the invoice." Again I had never agreed to the work. He then even said "ok we'll find an old crappy rusted cap and come back and put that on for you and take the new one off if you want." I've never dealt with such poor customer service skills. He then said well hey, if you want to screw me out of my money fine, we'll blacklist you and you'll never see us again and actually hung up on me. What kind of customer service is that?? We are considering adding a wood/pellet insert to the fireplace of our 1930 colonial. We were told that we would need to get the chimney cleaned and inspected to make sure it was safe to install the insert. We bought the house over the summer and had no experience with the fireplace, so in addition to cleaning, I wanted experts to take a close look. The fireplace place (Hearthside) recommended Cheaper Sweeper. I considered others, but ended up going with them. I talked to Mike (the owner) on the phone and set up an appointment.The sweeper was Art, along with a younger apprentice. Art was a wealth of knowledge on inserts and gave me some great advice. He also put my mind at ease by telling me that everything was in good shape. They did a great job on both the fireplace ($139) oil flue ($129), and even fixed a broken damper. I will call them again next year. Once we get our insert, I think we'll use the fireplace a lot! read more

Art and a young apprentice inspected the chimney, verified that it needed sweeping, completed the job, and made valuable recommendations along the way. They were professional, cleaned up after themselves, and charged reasonable rates. We couldn't recommend them more! read more

Cheaper Sweeper installed a pellet stove in our living room 6 years ago. Since then we have not had to use our oil heat at all. They've come back each year for our annual cleaning, and once to replace a fan on the stove. Each time they have showed up when they said they would, cleaned up before they left and made sure everything was running the way it should. Top notch service. read more

This guy doesn't even deserve one star. The owner is dishonest and was caught in many lies in regards to the work he did on a pellet stove we bought from him. We finally got someone to come in and look at the stove and we were told that it was not installed properly. They had the lining coming in through the chimney attached to the back of the stove like a vent attached to the back of a dryer. They did not have the T shaped metal piece that should be used attached to the back of the stove. Come to find out he stated he replaced parts and he never did. They do not know anything about pellet stoves. After calling around we quickly realized other companies had little respect for them and he is known for his ways of doing things the cheapest way he can and safety does not matter to him.
