We found healthy, free roaming (in an expansive citrus orchard) chickens who appeared happy (if chickens can be described as such) and very friendly. At the time, Krystelle was in the process of collecting eggs and Jay was about to clean out the chicken coop which appeared clean, tidy and well maintained. Lastly, it was "icing on the cake" to learn one can come by anytime, choose fresh eggs out of the fridge, and leave your money in the jar.

I think they may also have a berry patch, but I haven't been for that. Mountain Brook Ranch is a great place to bring the family to enjoy some time outdoors and to pick fruit fresh from the tree. It is easy to spot from the road, and has a lovely farm stand right next to a gravel parking area. Depending on the season, the farm stand has jams and the seasonally fresh/ripe fruit ready for you to buy if you don't want to pick your own. They also have buckets and pruning shears to cut the fruit off the trees available for those who want to pick their own. Please note that usually only certain trees or rows are available to pick from, depending on which trees have ripe fruit and which trees they are saving for other things. Surrounded by beautiful rolling foothills, this is a great family activity, and a great place to take photos while you enjoy time outside. She used Food4Thought, a company that had been delivering to nearby school districts, also shut down due to the pandemic, for her outlet. Worked for me as I was not comfortable going to Kingsburg to pick up blackberries and blueberries. Food4Thought has a convenient location out by the airport that was good for pickup once or twice a week. More produce was added. Fabulous fruit and veggie boxes were available. Bags of locally grown fruit could be bought at a low cost. How convenient, how healthy, how delicious. So, will Food4Thought continue to sell to the public after the pandemic ends? We will wait and see. I am hopeful.

We chose to just buy apples already picked along with some of the yummy cider. The apples were pretty good, better than a lot of store bought for sure, albeit a little pricey for what they are. But I believe most people come here for the experience of picking the apples themselves. I personally would rather have a superb apple. The cider was very fresh and delicious as well, although the cap on one of the ones I bought did not fit back on after opening so had to make a makeshift cap after opening. You don't need to make reservations. Just go up in their opening hours and either pick or buy. If I lived closer it would be worth it for me to go back and buy more apples, but the quality, price and distance doesn't make it worthwhile for me personally. But definitely a great activity to do with your kids, and nice grounds for a picnic lunch while there.

I finally had a chance this summer on a day off to take the 40 minute drive and check it out. I was not disappointed. This is a small but year-round farm stand right off the side of the road with gravel space for cars to park. It is not greatly protected from the elements--and it was a hot hot day. I'm glad to see they at least had a few fans for the employees. The owner regularly works her stand, and when I was there, she offered to cut some fresh herbs or flowers for me while I perused the wonderful assortment of fruits, veggies and local honey. I ended up with some of the sweetest green grapes I've ever tried, a few different honeys to try (avocado and orange blossom), some freshly roasted peanuts, cucumbers, and an assortment of stone fruit. Everything was delicious, but the grapes were my favorite. Check out Sweet Girl Farms on Social media, or check out their website. They are active in the community, help to support other community growers (they even have eggs and other offerings), and enjoy a worthwhile visit to what should soon obtain the title of local treasure.
