I was looking to add something new to my established fitness routine and had been curious about boxing. I pass Chavez Boxing Gym every day and finally decided to give it a shot. Now, I'm not a spring chicken and have not punched anything since elementary school but those concerns were put to rest quickly. Coach Chavez provides a welcoming but serious environment where folks of all levels are learning and working hard. Lot of positive, motivating energy. As other reviews point out, Coach Chavez is a force for good within the community and I'm constantly impressed and inspired by all the young folks in the gym, training with passion and dedication. I've been training with Coach Ben who is skilled, insightful, and intent on helping me improve. He pushes my limits, but I wouldn't want it any other way. Coach Ben had me in the ring my very first day and has taught me a lot about sparring in a short amount of time. The gym has all the equipment you need, including plenty of gloves and headgear, weights, medicine balls, all sorts of punching bags, treadmill, etc, etc. I have no hesitations recommending Chavez Boxing Gym. read more

I started training at Chavez Boxing Gym in March of this year and the first thing that stood out to me was how family-friendly this gym is. Considering that boxing is a male-dominated sport, females are often ignored and made to feel discouraged, finding it challenging to commit to a gym where they do not feel welcome. Not at Chavez Boxing Gym; women and children are welcomed and respected. And since the community is so welcoming, female participation is much higher here compared to other gyms I have been to. There is also an after school amateurs program for young children to help them develop their confidence, build good character, be involved in their community, and learn self-defense. Coach Pete Chavez is very patient with his beginners, and tailors his workouts to fit his client's goals. I've trained at other gyms and did not receive half the amount of attention and instruction as I do at this gym. And if Coach Pete is busy with other clients, there are other coaches available to assist you. I would recommend Chavez Boxing Gym to anyone who is looking for a safe space to learn boxing and get in shape! :) read more

Coach Pete Chavez and his son Conrad give "workout" a whole new meaning. No matter what your skill level, or lack thereof, you only have one way to go: UP! Your body will thank you! It's incredible how good you will feel about yourself after learning even basic punches and foot movements. Although each workout is intense, the coaches never push you to spar if you don't want to; their goal is for you to enjoy and benefit from your workout. Young, old, rich, poor, former superstar jock or guy or girl who was never picked for a team (like me)---all will feel comfortable at Chavez Boxing Gym. Been going here for 4 1/2 years and I never thought I'd make it this far and be this good and in this shape! When I started I was skinny, completely out of shape and had never boxed before. I was intimidated going in because I was so inexperienced and couldn't go thirty seconds without getting winded, let alone make it a round in sparring (I now spar every week and am prepping for my first fight). When I first came thru the doors I thought they might turn me away but immediately that all changed when I saw how loving and hard working everyone is and how much time the Coaches spend with every client, regardless of their experience; everyone is welcome here! In fact Coach Jesse just trained my right arm only today after I injured my left arm haha love it here. I have come to the Chavez Boxing Gym for self defense training. The gym is very intimidating (at least for me) when you first step foot in it but rest assured they are great people. To those who don't get a call back right away understand that Pete Chavez is not only the person who runs the gym he's also a trainer too(I'm one of his clients along with Coach k. ). I'm nearing my second month of self defense and I'm becoming more confident everyday I go back and train with them. The gym is also kid friendly if you want your little ones to learn self defense too. I will always tell everybody who asks me about this gym that it's a great gym and worth it. I have been training at Chavez Boxing Gym for almost 3 years now and I am in the best shape I have ever been in. I have trained with every coach at the gym and they all provide excellent workouts. You can always customize your workout to whatever you want to work on that day (mitts, bags, weights, etc). One of the main advantages with training here is I am able to go to the gym any day of the week and use the bags/weights/etc. This is perfect for days I don't having training. I've been a regular at Chavez Boxing for more than three years. The father and son who oversee the lessons really know their stuff, are extremely patient and know how to make working out challenging and fun. You'll learn a lot (including lessons about your own abilities as a boxer as well as just how serious you are about actually getting in shape). No two lessons are ever the same and I've never exited the building without being drenched in sweat, spent and ready for more. Coach Chavez runs a non profit foundation for youth and he also does one on one boxing training separate from his foundation. Coach Chavez has been training my two boys (10 & 8 years old) and myself for the last five months one on one. He has been fantastic with my two boys and with me. My boys and I each train for thirty minute periods a couple times a week. Coach Chavez is completely focused on who he is training for that thirty minutes. Great place, great trainers, great results. I've trained in a number of boxing gyms in the Phoenix area, and have been at Chavez for a little over a year. It really is one of the best in town. Pete and his son, Conrad, have extensive experience both as fighters and as trainers. I've been going to Chavez Boxing for about 4 months and its great. It's an old school boxing gym with no egos, people are there to work out and get better, it's perfect. From day one, the entire staff and the other boxers are really welcoming, and my trainer Ben is awesome. He works with you at your pace but continues to challenge and teach you at every session. I love training here. Working with Pete and Conrad is a good time and a great work out. I trained with them for about 4 years until we had a baby 2 years ago and just started back up again. It's as good as I remember. It's not an easy work out but a really, really good one. Strongly recommend to anyone who loves boxing or just wants to work up a real good sweat. I love this gym. My son goes there for one on one training. He is very busy, and it's hard for him to stay focused but he is able to get the extra attention he needs to help him.
