    Brutal! But love it!
    Veronica W.

All I gotta say is it's a love hate relationship... more love than hate! I can honestly say I'm obsessed! I completely fell in love! It was like an abusive relationship - I go in get beat up but still in LOVE and keep going back for more! I enjoy working out but I am picky about my workouts. I don't mind paying the money if it is worth it... I do Pure Barre 7 days a week and when my BFF told me about this boxing gym that she found I was a little skeptical. She thought it would be the perfect combo with our current schedule.. PB 7 days and Boxing 3 days a week! I told her I would give it a shot! HOLY COW! On my first day as I was driving in... I got a little nervous.. Wasn't sure if I was going to last... I was a little intimidated by the whole atmosphere... you know boxing gloves, a boxing ring, punching bags, dumb bells, medicine balls, men with muscles (real muscles) etc. I didn't know what the heck I have gotten myself into. I thought okay just one session and then I can say I tried it... After my first session I was on the floor dying! My lungs hurt, my muscles were cramping, my abs were on fire... I didn't know what hit me! I completely fell in love! It was like that abusive relationship - I go in get beat up but still in LOVE! I signed up for a month right away! My BFF and I go 3 days a week! It's totally worth every single penny! 3 days a week for 1 month doing a semi-private for 30 minute sessions for $150 each. Honestly, Brendan kicks our ass in those 30 minute sessions that I don't think I could or would want it to be any longer! After each session I feel like I am getting stronger, my punches are getting better and my confidence is raising. I'm not intimidated by walking in there anymore... Everyone is pretty friendly and no one really cares if your punches look pathletic and your ladder climbs looks completely ridiculous... There just there to get their workouts in. I recommend it to anyone who likes an intense, hardcore workout, where your lungs will be burning, your muscles will be fatigued and the coach will not let you stop. Ask for Brendan.. he's a no nonsense kind of guy! I found myself driving in now excited... repeating 1 2 1 2! POW!

Ask the Community - IronGloves Boxing

How long are you 1x1 boxing sessions?

Hello Rose, thank you for the question. Plan on being there 45 minutes to 1 hour. The boxing…

My son is over 300 lbs and I was thinking of getting him training for his birthday to maybe help with weight and strength. Is this a good idea? Thank you!

He would need some sort of conditioning program before he starts boxing. Have him do approx 2 months conditioning first. Thank you for your question.

Does this gym have a technical beginner class?

Hi there, so sorry, but we do not have any group classes. Thank you for asking! Sincerely, Renene L.

I also love the layout of the gym it's clean, well spaced out, and the equipment is great. My only con so far is that, in my experience, the trainers haven't been very engaged with the class or offered much guidance on form. One of the things I love most about group fitness is when instructors hype up the room & shouting out members, offering motivation, or demoing the moves alongside the class instead of just in the beginning and I haven't really seen that yet. That said, the staff are all super friendly, the gym offers so much more than just strength training (which I'm excited to explore), and the playlists are a solid 10/10. If you're in Scottsdale or just want to try a new gym I highly recommend this one!

Her energy was contagious, especially for such an early class, and she kept the entire group fired up from start to finish. As a newcomer as I have not been to the location in over 8 years, I really appreciated how she took the time to guide me through the movements, made sure I felt confident with the form, and most importantly--made me feel so welcome. You can tell she genuinely loves what she does, and it shows in how she connects with everyone in the room. Plenty of parking, places to shower, 2 rooms vibed with energy for different classes.

Walking into any gym can be intimidating, but from the moment I stepped in to get information, I felt genuinely welcomed. Unlike many gyms that immediately push you to sign up, the front desk staff took the time to explain their drop-in classes so you could try it out first. That alone spoke volumes. Each coach has their own unique coaching style and knows exactly when to push you and when to encourage you. That energy carries through the entire gym and creates a real sense of community. Even on your worst day, the members become your biggest cheerleaders. It's been two years now, and Pro Edge is more than just a gym--it's home.

From day one, the coaches made me feel welcome and pushed me at the same time. Every class has great energy, and the mix of boxing, BJJ, and MMA keeps things interesting. What really stands out is the community. Nobody's trying to show off everyone helps each other, whether you're hitting mitts for the first time or preparing for your first fight. The coaches genuinely care about your progress and make you feel like part of the team. If you're looking for a place in Phoenix to train, get fit, and actually enjoy it, this is it. Joining Pro Edge has easily been one of the best decisions I've made for myself.

Don't get me wrong; he was incredibly intimidating at first (he has a reputation to maintain hahahah). However, Chavez Boxing Gym has become my unconventional second home. The gym's culture of support is pervasive, from cheering me on when I get my butt kicked sparring to surprising me with cupcakes on my birthday. Coach's attitude of respect and grit is infectious. Even the 50-year-old clients abide by the harsh "yes Coach, no Coach" vernacular. Apart from the culture, I can attest that my fitness and boxing technique has exponentially improved as well. Two years ago, I walked in not knowing the difference between a jab and a hook, but I now comfortably spar and throw combos on mitts. I can guarantee that lessons at Chavez Boxing Gym will not be easy. They challenge you, making you a more confident boxer and more disciplined human.

I've never boxed before but the thought of punching a bag has always appealed to me. Especially when work gets stressful. I've wanted to learn how to box but just timing never worked out, but yesterday I gave it a try here. This isn't going to be like formal boxing at all, more like a exercise version of boxing. It was still fun but different than I imagined. I thought I would be learning to box and kick the entire time but you only do that for about half the class. This studio is located right on Tempe Town Lake where there is a plaza for living, etc. It's in a busy part of Tempe and parking is tight here. You do have to park in the garage above the studio but your parking is validated every time you come for class, so that works out nicely. While the first class is free, if you don't bring your own wrap, the studio offers it for $25, seems a bit steep but then again this business has to stay open. They loan you boxing gloves free for your first class and provide towels. There are lockers here but for the life of me I can't figure out these self locking lockers, so I don't even bother to lock up my stuff. The ladies working here are very helpful and said they would watch my stuff. Two bathrooms available but will say the lobby is small and no place to sit while you wait for your class to start. They need a little bigger lobby. This class felt like the same ambiance is a cycling studio I used to go to, it's like being inside a club. I found the instructors mic set was way too loud and the music sound level will blow out your eardrums. I did see ear plugs available and next time will use them. Instruction was ok for me as I am new to boxing and could have used a few pointers but it's not like rocket science to figure out how to punch a bag, just keep punching and learn the specific moves later!! About 30 minutes of the class, you're working with weights, squats, burgers, lunges, core work out, etc. While I don't do this regularly, I definitely appreciated it as I want to do a bit more cross training. I also worked up a nice sweat and my HR was probably in 160s, I was working but not at my max. You begin class boxing and then come back to finish more boxing. I loved the boxing!! I like how boxing gloves feel when you punch the bag and there is a bounce/spring to it. What I really wanted to do too was to kick the heck out of the bag too. I want to learn how to kick on top of box. I enjoyed thie cardio boxing class and I did sign up for some more classes. They offer a 2 in 1 class deal and then after that you can either buy 4 classes a month for $89 or 5 drop in classes for $129. I'm ready to box some more! Great, fun workout and a nice variation to everything else I am already doing!
