We went to see The Thanksgiving Play at Chatham Community Players last night, and we had such a great time!
If you're looking for that authentic, old-fashioned community theater experience, this is the place. The theater is wonderfully intimate, so there really isn't a bad seat in the house. You're close to the action, and it creates a connection with the actors that you just don't get in a huge theater.
And the cast was fantastic. They were so completely in character that at one point, one of the actors started laughing while another character was talking. I actually thought, "Oh no, he broke character!" -- only to realize that the laughter was actually part of the scene. That's how convincing they were!
What made the evening even better was getting to meet some of the cast and crew afterward. Everyone was so warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy to be there. You could really feel the sense of community behind the theater.
And here's something that really impressed me: I checked the season ticket prices afterward and a subscription for four shows is only $84. In a time when the price of just about everything keeps going up, it's pretty special to find an opportunity to enjoy live theater and culture at such an affordable price.
It was a wonderful night out from beginning to end. Great performances, an intimate theater, wonderful people, and that special feeling you get when you're supporting local arts.
If you haven't been to Chatham Community Players, go! You may be surprised by just how good community theater can be. We'll definitely be back. read more
