I opened a Chase checking account at this branch in early January 2019. Here are my experiences leading to its close in February 2019.
If you're a senior, not looking to have health problems or someone younger not wanting to age too quickly, I'd respectfully recommend banking at an institution other than Chase.
1. Before I could even write a check there were 3 unauthorized transactions on my account - 2 for pennies to "prime" the account as is often done and then a transaction IDed as through paypal which paypal knew nothing about. In-bank customer service was useless (or powerless or so I was told) to assist me. I was then left with unhelpful 1-800 people and trying to "justify" my non-purchase....through regular mail only (very modern) which including multiple identical form letters from Chase thanking me for "resolving" the issue even though nothing whatsoever was resolved. After 2 dispute attempts, the charge was removed but only by my own effort and with zero apologies or acceptance of responsibility by the institution itself.
2. Recently, I deposited a $1500 Fidelity Funds redemption check which had for years cleared at every other bank in a few days but at Chase was placed on a 12-day (yes, spelled t-w-e-l-v-e) hold. Working with a helpful in-bank specialist at Chase (to resolve an admittedly outrageous situation) it took me 2 bank visits, multiple calls to Fidelity revealing that apparently other Chase customers had experienced similar "extended" holds, and learning of the biggest irony - that the Fidelity check itself WAS DRAWN on Chase bank itself to clear the check in a shorter time.
So why the 10+ day hold? A rhetorical question with the only reasonable answer being a smug corporate smile.
And could someone in their 70s or 80s have the strength to push through this nonsense to secure monies rightfully theirs or to dispute charges for purchases they did not make?
I could be you, (the reader of this) in the future your situation might be 100x worse than mine!!!!!! (Note: this REALLY sucked for me)
Words like brazen, heartless, greedy and despicable came to my mind immediately.
I wouldn't apply these words to people at the branch I dealt with who assisted me to the extent they could.
Instead, the words apply to Chase, the institution that makes their own employees look foolish, powerless, and ill-prepared while at the same time treating its customers (like me) with contempt and disdain.
PLEASE NOTE: I wouldn't trust anything that follows or responds to my experiences by Chase. read more
