I woke up to an unexpected $500 charge from Spectrum. After a long wait, a rep told me it was "unusual" and couldn't explain it, so he refunded me. Later in the same call, he said it was from international data roaming during a recent trip to South America. My wife and I used Wi-Fi the whole time and forgot data roaming was even on. Spectrum claimed they warned me via email, but I receive dozens of promo/spam emails from them monthly. Their email didn't clearly state I'd be auto-charged $500 once a certain threshold was reached, which feels deceptive. Since the rep already refunded it, he said I'd be recharged next month. I called again to dispute it and spoke to a rep who laughed when I asked for a supervisor. A manager told me I'd also be charged $585 unless I upgraded to an unlimited plan -- so I paid $40 just to avoid that. Still, I was told the $500 charge would remain. On a third call, another rep told me I wouldn't be charged the $500 at all, but instead, $50. By now, I had received three completely different answers. The inconsistency is unacceptable. While checking my account, I saw I'd been charged for premium TV services I don't use and a Roku device I already own -- something that has happened multiple times in the past. Then I checked my Internet speed. I've been paying for Ultra Internet (advertised at 700+ Mbps) but only got around 120 Mbps. Even after downgrading to a 500 Mbps plan, I still get the same speed. Run to different provider if possible!! Dropped off my 92 year old mother's equipment at the physical location on King Ave W. in Billings, MT on October 16th, 2024. They had 3 CSR's helping one customer with multiple people waiting. I asked if I could just drop the equipment off and they suggested I take it to UPS or that I could wait. I waited as I was flying out in a little while. The CSR dumped the bag out on the floor, scanned the barcodes, then placed in a cabinet in the wall behind her and gave me a receipt. I had a definite feeling she wasn't happy with me but since she scanned them into their system it should be done. Spectrum has since been sending me messages asking me to return the equipment. I contacted them on November 6th offering to e-mail a copy of the return receipt and they said they do not have an e-mail address for this. They started a ticket and told me they will contact me on the 13th with resolution. I called on the 21st and there is NO reference of the ticket in their system and it is not resolved. Today I contacted a CSR who gave me an e-mail address of OCS@CHARTER.COM along with a new case number. I emailed a copy of the return and am waiting for them to confirm it is resolved. Maybe their board of directors should address this with their 45 year old CEO Chris Winfrey, compensation package of $89,000,000 ($89 Million), and redirect some of his compensation to correct some of the dysfunctional disconnects in his company. read more

Complaint was filed with the BBB on April, 2021 For being over billed from October 2018 to April 2021. The company was aware of charging myself and the landlord for 2 extra boxes and service fees. The company knowingly admitted to their fault and I was told that the company policy was to only credit back 60 days. Months and months of both myself and landlord paying the bill as stated in my contract. After the company agreed to credit my account in resolution of the initial complaint, they still have not followed through. Great Falls || Billings I called to cancel my service with Charter and spoke to a rude representative for 20 minutes before asking to speak with a supervisor. They had told me I had to go disconnect my wiring, even though I did not live in the home but my 85 year old grandmother did. She no longer needed charter due to her moving to a home. She is legally blind, cannot drive, and cannot very well do stairs. It is beyond me why they will install it and take your money, but won't uninstall. I am waiting for a supervisor now. The representative said she would transfer me to her supervisor but instead hung up. I called back and am waiting for a transfer now. My own personal experience has also been crap. The service is unreliable and I miss the decent Internet companies that they took over in their attempt to be the best. read more

I got an unsolicited call from these guys. They knew my direct TV account number. They said the could get me better internet than Viasat, which I had already bundled with Direct TV, and they could get me out of my contract and into Hughes Net. They wanted my card number, and I wouldn't give it to them. I had them call back later as I researched them. As I did, I get a " Hard " ding on my credit report from these guys. I went to the main office to dropped all the equipment and cancel internet service which was the last we had with them at the beginning of November and never got a receipt for it and then little we know we received an email at the beginning of December stating that we owed them 79.31 and it was bc the Internet option was never disconnected. When I try to argue with the lady on the phone it was pointless since she said there was no date of when was the equipment returned that it only said it was return. Tried to get one room added for my internet. Called Spectrum TV and was told there would be a $35.00 charge to do this. I asked to have the charge waved and they said "no way." My monthly bill averages $180.00 per month or, $2,160.00 a year. They were willing to give up the $2,160 a year rather than wave the $35.00 service fee. This, to me is not good customer relations. My recommendation would be; if you don't need high speed internet go to Dish TV or one of the other provider. read more

By far the most unreliable. Their latency for servers is such shit and they don't know how to properly upgrade their infrastructure before upping their speeds. The only reason why they are still in business is because they basically a monopoly. They are no other good enough providers around town to go with. If Verizon came with their FIOS Internet they would wipe the floor with them. At this point I feel like I should only be paying 20 dollars for their shitty service. Basically if you game alot or streaming don't expect having top speeds all the time their going to be slow times where your Internet slows to a crawl. Charter/Spectrum is the worst. We have 3 homes, all with Spectrum/Charter. They change from bresnan to optimum to charter and now spectrum all the time kicking your email account causing the owner/business person to lose their contacts, their sign on password, their ability to email certain people and the list goes on. None do they fix!!!! We run circles switching emails changing settings on cell phones, etc. When you call for tech support, you will not receive a technician. They "escalate" your requests, but since I still have the same problem (over a year, all my business contacts are deleted before they hit my email)and they will not let me speak directly to a technician, I have no idea what "escalation" means. They are the only game in town. Glad I run my business better. read more

Straight up liars, you don't get nearly the speed they claim. I usually start by resetting my modem any time I plan on using the internet, something new I've had to do since using this ISP. They claim you get speeds of up to 60 mpbs, but I get a ton of lag just trying to watch a 10 min. you tube video. They will direct you to "their" speed test online that shows you are getting the speed they claim. Try and show them any other speed test and they will argue with you. If that doesn't work their next step is to blame the speed on your devices. I asked to talk to a manager and the guy (who clearly didn't know what he was doing) kept me on the phone for another 15 minutes. I talked to the manager, who was not any more helpful. They are always calling me asking me to sign up for TV or phone. Really, get more of your services when I'm not even happy with what you are providing now. Charter is worse than Time Warner and that is saying something. read more

Manager Hope in the Retention Center is unavailable to customers. Her assistants like Dave MNM and Madison are no help and fail to have any sympathy for customers with outages for 9 days. No one should be without all services for 9 days in an area with no other problems, no trees etc. The field service this company offers sucks. Direct tv responds within 24 hours. Spectrum takes 9 days to even look into the problem. read more

One star may be too much for the service we got but I can't rate them lower than that. I have been a Customer since they were Bresnan communications (roughly 10 years) and since they have become charter their service has done nothing but gone down hill. When we moved into our new house, the tech was 3 hours later than the time we were told they would be here. The box then quit working so we called and the automated system decided to reset the box. So then, the box has been resetting every day on its own. We called charter and they said they would send a tech to our house. So my boyfriend got off work early and came home only to get a call when he got home that said they couldn't fix the box right then and that they weren't coming but they would put us on a list for a new box. Two weeks later when the box kept doing this, my boyfriend called to get a status of this and they said they would send another tech out. So we made sure we were home at the allotted time only to get ANOTHER phone call from the tech saying he wasn't coming because we needed a new box and that he would come out tonight. Well, tonight, here I sit and still no tech. So I called them and was told that there were no notes that the tech told us that and that we just need to bring the box to them. Horrible horrible horrible service. If I treated customers like that at my work, I wouldn't have a job anymore. read more

Good luck streaming netflix for 30 seconds straight without it cutting out then. Apparently its 2017 and they haven't mastered the science of allowing 10+ people to be on their system at the same time. Finding a way to get away from your godawful service (internet connection and customer type) made me a google fu master of internet service in this city. I have a brand new router yet they insist the problem lies with that. Paid linksys $10 to thoroughly ensure via going into my desktop computer that router is flawless. I am truly surprised that they are still in business. Their internet is questionable at best and only works high speed if you get on at 3:00 am. The lag if more than I person is on at a time if horrible. I signed up for service, not wanting a phone, but low and behold I have a phone and being charged $30.00 per month and if I want to drop it then the TV goes up in price. I thought Charter/Spectrum, whatever they call themselves, were as bad as they can get. Oh no. I gave them ample notice that I was moving from my apartment to my house in December, 2016. An appointment was made because a tech HAD to disconnect at the old address and connect the modem at the new addres. Tech called me on the day and asked if he can come early because he was done with last job. I said Im at new address, cant be at old address to open up for him till scheduled time. He said he does not need to go into old address, he only needs to be at new address for install if I won't mind taking modem in to their office in town when I get a chance. Tech came to new address and did install, and I took modem in to their office at a later date when I was in town (I drive long distance for a my job). APRIL 2017 I realized they are charging me full service fee twice a month. Called customer service. Answer: I have two accounts because the modem was returned late. I said not so, I' not even a tenant at the old address. They will refund me back to February, not back to December, and won't listen further. Customer Service Rep comment to me was "sir, you will be getting a bunch of money back". Pathetic, that is not the point. Their incompetence caused the double charge because they forgot to cancel the account at the old address. Furthermore, they tried to pass the blame onto the tech. I reported them (and told them I will do that) to my State's Consumer Protection Department. They have a monopoly in my area, they are price gauging, they stole from me, they are rude to me, and they falsely accuse an employee. I have tried since October of 2016 to get my cable reduced to minimum basic cable. Tired of paying $195 per month!!! I called the service department and asked for all standard cable boxes instead of HD DVR boxes and while they were there to hook me up with Wi-Fi. Well they hooked up the Wi-Fi, 1 standard box and 2 DVR boxes and did not reduce my account to minimum cable so once again I get a very large bill and they told me if I wanted the boxes changed I can do it myself or be charged for a service call. I just received another bill for $389 which they tell me there's nothing to be done I have to pay. I paid 250.00 of it and then I was told all was fixed and my bill will be $130 so I threw another 120.00 at it. I just got another bill for $189.00???? with both of these payments showing on the bill. I cannot tell you how much I dislike this company. This is a brief summary of all the calls made and the feeling that I am still swimming in SHARK infested waters. In my opinion this is the WORST COMPANY I have ever dealt with. I am headed down there next week and I am positive it will not be a positive outcome. zero of those to date! read more
