This review is specifically about the weekend buffet. The one thing I like is it opens at 10 AM and when you show up at 10:30 you're pretty much have the whole restaurant to yourself The food is a nice selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food I love the chutneys, especially the tomato chutney. It goes really well with the vada and idilli I also like they have more than just nann but also the south Indian Parrotta The curries are all excellent. Dropped in for take out after shopping at Columbia employee store. Atmosphere very hole in the wall and not cozy but the nicest staff and only a couple large Indian families eating there (good vibes). Easy to sit and wait for my order with a Mango lassi, and noticed a lot of folks coming in to pick up orders. But the food--the food!! It was very well priced and totally delicious. BEST Indian food I've had in Portland! I only got chicken saag medium spicy and garlic naan, with rice. But saag paneer/palak paneer are my favorite dish and this place was by far the best--super tender and flavorful chicken and the perfect amount of spice and texture for the saag. After hours of shopping at the Columbia Employee Store, we were starving and were looking for a close place to eat. Luckily, we found this place that was only 5 minutes away As a Washingtonian, we have a great selection of Indian restaurants but I will say this place had the most creamy butter chicken, tikka masala, and saag paneer I've ever had. Also, the garlic naan was flavorful, buttery, and an order was plentiful which all dishes were excellently priced. Last, the service from Harry was excellent and the food came out quick. South Indian style but they really create some really great entrees which is full of aroma and flavor and not necessarily so hot or spice that will hurt your spice taste. We ordered a fish curry and Thalapakattu Goat biryani and it was simply fabulous and the goat meat was very tender and tasty enough for me to taste till the last fiber of the meat. You don't get Indian style breakfast buffet anywhere in Portland except for Charminar at this moment. Hoped in last day and got a chance to have that. Appam/porotta with egg and vegetable curry was fantastic. Plain dosa(can be asked separately. Not in Buffet counter) and little poori's ordered were good as well. Idli, Vada , sambhar were just okay. Not the best compared to others mentioned earlier. But for small breakfast buffet on weekend mornings, in general Charminar is a great pick. They do have few options to go English style as well. We really liked Hollywood Bites, the restaurant that used to be in this space. I even got an ROTD for my review. Butter chicken is one of our comfort foods so we thought we would try Charminar House and order delivery. It was expensive. $83+ total. We ordered: Butter chicken- 4 pieces of dry sliced chicken breast in creamy tomato curry. Tasty. Mutter paneer- peas and small cheese cubes in creamy, less tomatoey curry. Kid loves this. I like sag/spinach paneeer better. Next time. Naan- rectangular, really thin, with holes like swiss cheese but nicely brown. 2 pieces for $3ish dollars. We got four, because leftovers. Chicken lollipops - smaller than anticipated but tasty. Kid was pleasantly surprised. raita - really good.Fresh and bright and tart. samosas x2- flaky pastry with yummy potato filling. They came with a spicy green chutney. A mango lassi- small but my kid loved it. rice- two small cartons. Not enough rice. I ordered everything mild, because me and my post cancer life means minimal heat. Tragic. The butter chicken was good, it was a little skimpy on the chicken and a little spicier than anticipated. But it and naan are our Indian food litmus test. We wil order again. I think we will go in person. P.S. I saw on IG an Indian person was outta rice and the chicken was gone so they mixed their leftover butter chicken sauce with pasta as a food hack- they're right, it is BOMB.We mixed ours with linguine. Decided to try this out and I'm glad we did. Everything we got from Charminar House was delicious. The naan was crispy and soft and the garlic was fresh but not overpowering. The Paneer Biryani was on point. Very generous portions, great presentation and tasty. The Paneer Tikka Masala was also solid, with the right level of savory, smooth and flavorful. Charminar House has opened in the former Bollywood Bites location in the Sunset Mall. There have been some minor changes to the dining area. But the buffet section and TV that plays constant Bollywood dancing remain intact. Our server was friendly and didn't seem to have any problem understanding English. My friend and I were the only two people in the restaurant for lunch so our food was served quickly. We ordered masala dosa, chicken Tikka masala and navratan korma. I'm very familiar with Indian food and this was far from five stars. The dosa was ok but the navratan korma was awful. Thick, lumpy brown gravy with heat but no flavor covering what tasted like frozen chunky veggies and a few cubes of paneer. Navratan korma is one of my favorites and this was close to being the worst I've ever tasted. My friend seemed to enjoy his chicken Tikka masala. We ordered a paneer biryani to go, which looks pretty good in its container. I think it's wise to try the lunch buffet here first so that you know which dishes might be better than others. I'll try that in the near future and update accordingly. There's plenty of parking and bus 48 stops close by. read more

Out went Bollywood Bites and in its place has come a new restaurant called Charminar House. This new restaurant sports an interior that is bright and comfortable. Despite its small size Charminar House has quite a bit of seating. For those who miss Bollywood Bites I'm pleased to say that there is still a large screen TV in the back. You can still watch an enthusiastic Bollywood dance as you enjoy your meal. The staff is friendly but communication was a problem. Getting seating and ordering required quite a few "pardon me's" Managed to get served but my server and I never fully understood each other. Charminar House brought me out a plastic water bottle which seemed out of place in a restaurant like this. The real strength of Charminar House is its menu. They offer both Northern and Southern Indian dishes. Even a person unfamiliar with Indian cuisine should be able to navigate the menu. There's a good coded system for heat levels. Gluten free items are marked. Charminar House also lets you control your proportions on certain items. Single and family portions are offered. Charminar House serves both meat and vegetarian foods. There's also meals for children. On my visit I sampled mango lassi, butter chicken, and naan. All three were absolutely delicious. The chicken could have been cut smaller but the flavor was definitely there. The naan was the best I have ever had. Improve the communication skills, iron out some rough edges, and this could be one of the better Indian restaurants around. So glad we didn't lose India in this Cedar Mill mall! read more

This place has the BEST authentic Indian food in the entire beaverton/hillsboro area. potentially the best curry I have ever eaten and that means a lot when it's my favorite comfort food. the service is always wonderful, efficient, and kind. ordered chicken vindaloo on doordash and it was super good but i wish it would have mentioned there was a cilantro garnish. cilantro tastes like soap to me so although i can tell its a beautifully done dish, the whole thing just kinda tasted like spicy soap. will be back again and will make sure to ask for no cilantro read more

I used to come when this was Bollywood Bites and I liked the novelty of the movie playing. The movie plays but there is no buffet so because I only had a couple items I don't know about giving a 5 star rating. That said I had a samosa, kadai chicken, chai tea and naan. Everything was good! I ordered a medium heat and I can take hot food and this was pretty spicy so be aware of that. There is a new novelty the restaurant has now and that is a robot waitress who delivered my order! It was fun and funny! The service was very good as the a real waiter took my order and my payment! I don't know why someone complained about not understanding the waiter but think that was their bias not the fault of the restaurant. Hey! Don't give this place a bad review. It's not tasteless food, in fact, they didn't hold back on givin' up a lil spice for their dishes. I work nearby and was happy to try this place under its new ownership. I am pretty new to Indian so their vegetarian lunch buffet special was a nice opportunity to try things. I had paneer tikka masala, veg pakora, veg biryani, with naan and beet-root halwa. The everything was very well spices and I enjoyed the notes of coriander and medium heat in the tikka masala.
