The owner/head chef was also incredibly warm and welcoming, which made the experience even better. We tried the paneer tacos and Gobhi 65, and both were packed with great flavors. This is my 300th review on Yelp! Yay! Anyway, we came here on a friend's high recommendation because everything sounded amazing! Mexican and Indian fusion?! I mean come on! Best of both worlds! I want to give a little grace in this review since perhaps I came in with high expectations so some of the dishes fell a little short because of that? It was empty on a Tuesday around lunch time but we were greeted warmly by who I assumed were the owners. The lamb was tender and it did have a good amount of spice. My friend and I both thought the Dirty Chicken Masala Fries and her regular Chicken Tikka Masala could have had more flavor. The food was good, a little spicier than I would have liked for mild but the owner was so nice and helpful he more than made up for it. The Gobi 65 was delicious but spicier than expected. Pretty dang good!! I ordered chili chicken extra spicy, and I even specified to make it "super duper" spicy in the comments. When we went to pick it up, he smiled and said he tried to make it as spicy as he could with the sweetest smile ever. And he did a great job! It was delicious and had a nice kick. We also ordered the wings, which were also delicious. And a cauliflower dish, but I forget which one. It was so tasty. I do want to try their fusion flavors, but I'm a sucker for chili chicken and all things spicy. Next time! Oh! we dis try the masala corn, too! I've lived (and eaten copious amounts of Indian food!) in NYC, LA, SJ, SF, ATL, and PDX and this chef and his fusion cuisine is on a whole new level of culinary mastery and taste bud ecstasy. They even have an ordering app where you can earn rewards points towards apply to orders! And they are only 1/2 a mile away! I noticed a new Indian restaurant opened up in the area awhile back. Wanting to a new restaurant, my boyfriend and I went, craving curry. Warning! The food here is VERY SPICY! I ordered the corn masala, Gobi masala and Vegetable biryani. Every item looked well prepared and tasty. But after only a few bites of each item my mouth was on fire. I like mildly spicy food but this was on a level beyond what I enjoy. The place stands out among other Indian places due to the fusion component and some specific dishes. For example they have a spicy chicken liver dish. We tried. samosa, butter chicken, burger, loaded fries, biryani, tacos, garlic naan and masala tea. The chicken was over cooked, very hard, even in the burger it was very hard to chew. Biryani overall tasted ok.. more towards garem masala kind of flavor, samosa itself tasted nice however the oil it must have been fried in could be old as it had strong smell of oil when it's reused for a long time, garlic naan were nice and crisp. Loaded fires also tasted meh, the chicken again was rubbery, tacos were also no good in taste. Overall the food was below average, we were pretty excited for this new place however it didn't meet the expectations and excitement at all. Thank fully none of us got stomach bug or got sick as i was pretty nervous. We went to Pataka for the first time and really loved it. We ordered chicken masala fries, veg dum biryani, gobi 65, saag, paneer tacos, and masala chai. They were all really good. Gobi 65 had a kick to it, which worked great for us. The owner is also the main chef came out to talk with us told us how he takes great care to make sure every is made just right. The reviews don't lie! I ordered the Butter Chicken and my wife had the chicken sandwich. We both had some problems with the amount of spice. It was HOT! Granted, I told the guy that spicy is ok. They even included additional hot sauce on the side that remained unused. The food was fantastic though. Excellent flavor. Next time, I'll ask for mild and, I'm sure it will be just right.
