Amtrak in Charlottesville is a smaller station but is very nice. The offer plenty of seating and drink machines. If you leave your car there, there is a parking fee but I'm not sure how (I think $12 per day). The staff was very helpful and polite. Of course, they have facilities if you do need to use the rest room. read more

According to Wikipedia, this is the third busiest train station in Virginia and I believe it. I was here twice last week..the first time dropping off my husband to catch the Cardinal back to NYC. The lady at the counter was very helpful when we found out the train was delayed by two hours. The waiting room was clean although it wasn't too big. The second time was when he returned a few days later on the Northeast Regional. He was seated at the rear of the train and a huge crowd of mostly returning students got off. It seemed that the parade of people would never end. I think if you go to school at UVA and live in the Northeast, this is an easy way to get to grounds. read more

There's nothing special about Charlottesville's Amtrak Station, but it gets its job done. It's interior has some seating and several monitors displaying incoming trains and departure tracks. No amenities are notably available, and parking while waiting to pickup commuters are ample but strict with towing. Overall, Charlottesville's Amtrak Station fulfills its role as a platform for commuters in and out of Charlottesville, but don't expect anything above or beyond. read more

If you enjoy historic train stations, the Charlottesville Amtrak station may be the one for you. This station primarily serves trains headed north to Washington and New York or southern routes. The station probably has not changed much since it was originally built. You walk outside and there are the tracks. One very big plus is you can find parking. A second plus is that the station is very centrally located between the University of Virginia and the downtown mall. read more

TLDR: Attempted to ride as an unaccompanied minor but was denied when I tried to board due to rude employees who used loopholes in the rules. I presented my ticket to the conductor who was willing to take me onto the train when a station employee rudely interjected saying I needed to have arrived an hour early to fill out paperwork and be interviewed which I received no notice about. However, I was in-fact at the station an hour early and the ticketing desk where I was supposed to complete the aforementioned tasks was closed, and my only option was to use the electronic Kiosk which printed my ticket without issue. The employee then said that I would be unable to take the next train as it would not arrive in Philly until 12:00am which is past the latest arrival time for unaccompanied minors. (Unaccompanied minors cannot take trains that reach their arrival past 9:00). She then left us without providing any instruction whatsoever on how to get a refund on the ticket. I am currently having to drive all the way to the Richmond Amtrack station to catch the next train up to Philadelphia which arrives 3 hours later than my original train was supposed to. read more

Basic beyond belief. Id never been and went to check in and the guy said go outside and walk through the gate and make a left to check in. What he meant was go into the parking lot walk through the whole in the falling down fence and stand on the platforn with no benched or seating of any kind while the train is delayed 45 min as usual, theres not actually any checking in. Though i was td on the phone my buiness class ticket got me free checked bags on that train , it turns out # 1 checked bags are always free for everyone on train that check bags, #2 trains oit of there do not check bags no matter the class ticket. no food, no coffee, no outlets, no gate haha, and no benches, though most train stations for sone reason do not have benches to wait on. Oh and they want to charge you airport parking fees 12$ a day or 50$ a weekend I think, to park in their basic station which is commical considering most train station parking is free. Oh yeah and I just got back to the station and they locked the doors!! no bathroom while i wait for a lyft. Thabks a lot. You still have people here, the train literally just arrived. read more

It was a great experience from start to finish. The customer service was amazing! First the customer service person at the desk of the train station came outside, to the platform, looking for a kid missing a Pikachu. My son had left his stuffed animal on the chairs inside, and they safely returned it to us. The people on the train were great with the kids on the train. The gentlemen working in the cafe was funny and friendly. He was very pleasant, my five year old son said "That guy has really good manners, huh mom?" The train was clean, minus the bathrooms needing some minor attention. Wish the cafe had a better selection of health options, but what can you expect? The upgrade to business class was defiantly worth the $17 dollars a ticket. Choosing our time due to pricing, was also good, we ended up spending a lot less by leaving at a less ideal time of day. Over all we had a great experience and will travel Amtrak in the future. read more

I come down to Charlottesville every few months to visit family and the station meets the need - plenty of parking and they have staff there in addition to the ticket kiosk. It's definitely a typical old school train station that has all that you need in one place. This includes the Wild Wings Cafe located on the other side of the station building where you can stop in for a beer and wings while waiting for the train. If you're feeling extra confident, it's closeness to downtown means it's close to great restaurants like Bella's (italian) where to can have a good meal before heading out of town. If you head to Charlottesville, take the train - it's relaxing and a great way to get welcomed to this sophisticated, yet easy-going city. read more

I can't believe what the Amtrak conductors have to put up with on a daily basis. I was on an Amtrak trip recently where 2 people where escorted off, and there was a 5-hour delay due to technical problems at this location. The staff handled the two problematic customers well. One passenger got extremely drunk and was shouting for a few hours before they gave him the boot. The next problematic passenger was rude, loud, messy, disrespectful and he made 3 or 4 of the lady passengers on the trip very uncomfortable with racy, sexist comments that were heard by all. Unfortunately, the technical delay upset many people. There was a threesome of makeup executives (a husband and wife couple and an associate) on their way to NYC for a photoshoot. They made sure everyone on the train knew how important they were, and that their plans were ruined due to the delay. I think obnoxious people like this should be escorted off as well. Amtrak conductors, the unsung angels of travel; I don't know how you do it. read more

Amtrak is the worst. Do not take it! It takes forever and the schedule is never followed as written. You will be late every time. The freighters own the tracks and Amtrak has to pull over and wait every time one comes along. So aggravating to be hours late, just drive- trust me! read more

staff was outstanding until the 2 conductors got on at dc...guests were ignored by the elderly conductor in the quiet car...i was trying to tell him 2 guests were fighting over a seat. also, no station stops were heard!! he did not answer anything i said...he moved like a snail...why is he on a train???his balance was so poor, i felt he would land on a guest!!! as if this was not enough, the conductor glued to his seat in the cafe car is the worst, amtrak employee ever....he had a meltdown towards a while, female trying to explain something!! clarence, you are a nightmare!! he was screaming and yelling at me( w? his back to me) about nothing!! you could have heard this from everywhere. when i asked for his name, clarence sat down and laughed out loud!!! does he blong at amtrak????? it is a disgrace!! wonderful staff at amtrak and which are just a nightmare are employed there???help!!!! read more
