The smoke from the kitchen basically consumed the dining area and was very irritating. It eventually dissipated after a while, but I wouldn't recommend infants in this environment. After our party was seated, it took 15-20 min before our waiter greeted us and provided water; that was a bit annoying. After we got our orders in, things were smooth sailing from there. We were a large party and our waiter did a pretty good job at managing us and all of our requests. Food: they do not waste time bringing the food out. Most of our orders came out within 10 minutes! I ordered the Short Rib (unfortunately not pictured). It was hot, tender, and seasoned well....very good. It came on a bed of rice and some type of sauce. I was not a fan of either. The rice seemed uncooked and the sauce was too much and very liquid. It drowned the rice and practically made it soupy. I would have been fine with just the short rib. I also ordered a side of black eyed peas... also not a fan. It was undercooked and I didn't love whatever seasoning was used to prepare it. Other items I tried: Fries, Cornbread, Yams, and Soul Rolls. These were all tasty, specifically the soul roll. It came out crispy, hot, and stuff proportionately. I could take every bit of what was inside. It's definitely a must try.

The service was excellent, the smoky dry ice upon arrival was a hit along with the warm towels to clean our hands. The chef even walked around greeting guests. The restaurants decor is classic cotton club era, cute and classy but also has tvs mounted playing classic shows. The ambiance is casual. The menu prices could be adjusted downward but it was a nice experience. I'd recommend if you're in the mood for soul food. The sweet potato cornbread was the best!

Soul Shack - Jerk lamb chops & garlic mashed potatoes. Jerk lamb chops were ok. scoop of mashed potatoes were sad, bland/dry.

Soul Shack - Soul rolls appetizer. Could use a little more flavor/seasoning but certainly worth a try.

Dim /natural lighting, gentle music- perfect for remote working! Strawberry matcha was great! Matcha tasted good but wasnt too "grassy", Strawberry was light and fresh. Lemonade was 10/10! The Amazake taste almost like a white chocolate hot chocolate, somewhat creamy - she added Almond milk. The brown sugar was just enough not at all over poweringly sweet- "definitely gave Fall". She ordered it hot and said it absolutely did not disappoint. She also got a brown butter chocolate chip cookie and said she'd come back just for that.

loved this place!! genuinely enjoyed my time here; the balance between aesthetics, comfort, drinks,…read moreand bakery items did it for me. plenty of outlets too and p good prices! their toast was basically what i would expect from a Texas take on shokupan lol -- shokupan-style bread but with more of a Texas texture and ingredients. not as soft/pillowy as actual japanese shokupan and had much bigger air bubbles, but still good. could've used a lil more butter tho. matcha was actually one of the most decent i've had in Dallas, which i was pleasantly surprised by; not mind blowing compared to what u can get in Japan/LA. the caramel miso was SO good tho. perfect balance between sweet and savory where neither flavor overpowered the other. i'd say both the drinks and pastries here have really clean and honest flavors. nothing is trying too hard to be unique or complicated -- just simple, balanced, and good. was tempted to get multiple drinks but ultimately restrained myself and beyond the food/drinks, it's just a rlly pleasant cafe to exist in. aesthetically cute, comfortable enough to actually stay for a while, plenty of outlets if u wanna work, good prices, and everything i tried was solid. it hits that rare balance where the aesthetic isn't compensating for mediocre drinks. if this wasn't 30 min out from Dallas, i would probably be here every other day
