First time going here over the past weekend and it felt like I was in Jamaica going to the shop for my aunty. The variety of patties is something I've never seen before. From oxtail patties to curry shrimp patties. I tried their new oxtail patty and it was delicious. I paired it with some coco bread and it was a perfect combination. The only knock I give it, is that there was a lot of actual oxtail meat inside but oxtail is expensive so I'm not really upset about it. Then I was recommended to try a "meatloaf" which I thought was a patty with meat loaf but in actuality it's like a Jamaican patty but instead of flaky crust it's the coco bread that encloses it. I got spicy meatloaf and it actually had a little kick to it, which I loved. Only part was that after eating everything it got a little too salty. But that's when I paired it with a sweet tea. It's not your typical American sweet tea though it taste like a different sweetener that I can't quite put my finger on it. I just ordered 2 jerk chicken patties and my God lord and Savior Jesus Christ these patties are delicious! The hands that made these are blessed. They taste like they were made in yard. First of all we're NOT spicy very low on meat and the crust/pastry dough whatever you wanna call it was just not good for both but the meatloaf bread actually tasted sweet like sweeter than usual s basically no redeeming factors at all. I had to look three times to see if you had a red dot to make sure it was actually spicy if that was spicy mild must taste like nothing. My favorite patties ever! Charlie's has been my family's go to spot for over 20 years! They sell lots of pastries including coco bread, patties, and cakes. They even make their own juices which are absolutely delicious. Service is outstanding and the patties are so popular you get them fresh pretty often. It's located at the Lauderhill mall which luckily got remodeled and looks so much nicer now but I grew up here and will always super whenever I am around the area. Lots of parking in front and the line is sometimes long but it moves quick and well worth the wait. read more

Charlie's patties is so gosh darn good. This location is a Lauderhill institution. I prefer Charlie's crust and meaty insides versus Hammond's breadcrumby filler patty. Charlie has a really nice curry chicken patty too. If you find yourself needing a patty on Sunday when Charlie's is closed then Jerk machine is an easy second. I ordered two beef patties, one spicy one mild and the lady asked me if I wanted Coco bread and I said no, I'm good and she said really? you're missing the best part. I went to Charlie's in Lauderhill (not sure if they have more then one location) yesterday. The reason I went there was because Hammonds was super busy and I didn't want to wait 15 minutes after I had already waited 10 minutes for some jerk patties. That was a mistake. The quality of their patty doesn't match up to Hammonds. I base this off the fact that I was high when I went there and being high is supposed to make whatever you eat taste better. My taste buds normally amplify whatever is best/worst about what I'm eating. I ordered 2 jerk patties, a meatloaf, a mild beef patty, and a bun & cheese... I was clearly high. With that being, said the meatloaf bread was the best thing I ate. It was soft and fluffy and buttery af. The meat wasn't the best though. It didn't taste homemade it tasted "industrial". It tasted like they buy it from somewhere and it sits in a freezer for days/weeks before they warm it up and sell it. The jerk patties were even worse. Once again they tasted like they were bought and just heated up. The meat tasted and looked like paste. The bread wasn't flaky. It wasn't very flavorful. After that I threw everything else away tbh. It blew my high how bad EVERYTHING was. For comparison, Hammonds across the street is the gold standard, as far as patties goes. Their patties are always flaky af. The meat is seasoned well and it's always hot hot. That's how I know it's fresh and I've never had to question whether or not it's homemade because I can taste it. If I wasn't high I would've remembered that lol but I was impatient and ready to eat. It won't happen again though because I'll just get a different type of patty before I change locations again. So I switched up my morning commute and picked up a few patties. I tried a meatloaf patty for the first time. It's a very large, pillow soft bread, filled with well-seasoned ground beef mixture. Not as good as I remembered it being. I've never been to this location. I ordered a callaloo patty and a curry chicken patty. The callaloo was good. It had a lot of filling but the crust was a bit dry as if it had been sitting for a while. The curry chicken was not that good. It didn't have much filling and tasted nothing like curry chicken. The crust was also dry and stale. The customer service could have been a little better also. I understand that the bakery is busy but the lady taking my order was a bit rude and was rushing . My son and I decided Saturday was Jamaican patty day and we were of to the little Jamaica of Broward. Lauderhill is home to Golden Krust, Charlie's and Hammonds, all almost located side by side. I have had GK in the past so we would be comparing Charlie's to Hammonds. Charlie's is take out only and upon arriving there were 5 people in line. Its located next to a bus transfer site and can get very busy. The line moved quickly and service was fast but impersonal. We ordered 4 meat patties and a coco bread. My son the foodie wanted to try the patty sandwich. You wrap a patty inside the coco bread. I passed on this and just ate it au naturel. The crust was flaky and the filling had bits of meat seasoned just right and the patty did not break apart while you ate it. Overall I have to say the winner was Charlie's. Do not know I would make the trek to Charlies having a Golden Krust just a few miles. away. read more

This is one of the few must haves when I visit my parents in South Florida. Their food is always fresh, delicious and freeze very well (living out of town we always buy a bulk so we can freeze them and have them for a while). It is a very small store, but they have a great variety of pastries, all of which are outstanding. Their service is always speedy and their prices are great.
