The smell of their sugar bread romanced me into a nostalgic longing to go back to Jamaica. I haven't been home in eons, I feel almost alien, I feel like the chocolate missing from the chocolate covered caramel covered popcorn I buy at Popscorn. They have coconut & peanut drops, rum cake, fruit cake, patties, hard dough bread, tarts, sugar bread, and everything baked fresh every day. They don't use artificial ingredients or preservatives, and they definitely don't use the cancer-causing thyroid destroying potassium bromate. While writing this review my memories of climbing Dunns River Falls, eating escovitch fish & bammy at Border in Westmoreland, the midnight drumming to the spirits of the night flowered within my mind. Customer service is A+ Patties are tasty, but nothing like the toe-curling taste you'll find in Jamaica. Do not mistake this place for Five Star "Jamaican" Bakery on Miramar Pkwy. That is a totally different business where their patties will give you heartburn, and their customer service is reminiscent of "people" from Tivoli Gardens.

This is not the actual 5 star patty place - it is a knock off. For real though, the patty is not even close to being actual Jamaican patty.

I also tried one of their empanadas, which was delicious and packed with flavor. My friend had the breakfast sandwich which she enjoyed! The real star here, though, is the pastries. I tried a couple slices of cake and they were absolutely amazing--fresh, rich, and clearly made with care. There alfajors also melted in your mouth!! There's also plenty of seating, which is a huge plus. The only downside was the ordering process. Since it was my first visit, I didn't realize you have to take a number (similar to Publix) and wait to be called. I ended up standing in line, not knowing they were serving based on numbers instead. To add to the confusion, numbers were being called out in Spanish, which I don't speak. Once you know how it works, it's probably fine--but as a first-timer, it was a bit confusing. That said, I'd absolutely go back for the food--just probably not on a busy weekend!

I contacted the owner for a few initial questions, suggestions, and quote....she responded within an hour and gave me great feed back. We had initial theme for the party of "glam" but ended up switching to an 80s theme...so a whole different cake idea. The owner adjusted to this seamlessly and executed to perfection as well as keeping me up to date thru out and being timely in delivery. The cake itself came out so vibrant & dope....the birthday girl and several other guess thought it was a decor / art piece. Everyone loved the taste & texture as well. The (last minute add of) neon pink champagne inficupcakes were on point as well. Definitely helped deliver on the vibe we were going for with the party. (The picture doesn't do how much the cake popped out justice, but can't figure out how to add video clips)

I ordered djon djon (Haitian black mushroom rice) with Legume. The plate comes with a salad and plantains. This food was divine. It's inexpensive at $16 and sooooo much food. It was the perfect combination. My friend ordered her legume with white rice and then we ordered the griot platter. The griot came out sooooooo tender. I also order a Tablet which is peanut brittle. Delicious. Remind me of Haiti. If you're looking for some AMAZING food, Sandy's Bakery is the place to go to. It was packed with customers inside. This is NOT a dine in location, only take out.
