The smell of their sugar bread romanced me into a nostalgic longing to go back to Jamaica. I haven't been home in eons, I feel almost alien, I feel like the chocolate missing from the chocolate covered caramel covered popcorn I buy at Popscorn. They have coconut & peanut drops, rum cake, fruit cake, patties, hard dough bread, tarts, sugar bread, and everything baked fresh every day. They don't use artificial ingredients or preservatives, and they definitely don't use the cancer-causing thyroid destroying potassium bromate. While writing this review my memories of climbing Dunns River Falls, eating escovitch fish & bammy at Border in Westmoreland, the midnight drumming to the spirits of the night flowered within my mind. Customer service is A+ Patties are tasty, but nothing like the toe-curling taste you'll find in Jamaica. Do not mistake this place for Five Star "Jamaican" Bakery on Miramar Pkwy. That is a totally different business where their patties will give you heartburn, and their customer service is reminiscent of "people" from Tivoli Gardens. read more

I have been been going to this Five Star Bakery for decades now and just realized that I had never written a review. I go to this location a lot and used to always buy a few dozen patties and some plantain tarts for the office pre-Covid. They have been consistently good and it's one of the few places that have the soft & fluffy coco bread. I used to also buy the dozen frozen patties for when you get that craving at home. It took the recommendation from a true Jamaican to visit Five Star Bakery after many years of seeing the establishment, and disregarding it. We had a talk about Jamaican beef patties, and a coworker recommended Five Star Bakery as having the truest taste of beef patties made in Jamaica! That was all it took to visit the location less than a week later. Five Star Bakery is small in size, but large on taste! It has the best tasting Irish Moss we ever had! Sweet and smooth, not choppy, made by Five Star Bakery. We wanted to try to spicy beef patties, but arrived around lunch time when they were in the process of baking new ones. As previous reviewers stated, patties are made fresh daily. Regarding service, there was only one person on duty. Not only did this beautiful young lady efficiently take everyone's order, she was able to multitask. And she did all of this with an angelic pleasantness that made everyone's brief wait almost seem nonexistent! Good food and great service! They are saving graces! the only thing there that was good is the coco bread. poor service. the gizzarda terrible it tasted like washed out coconut and it tasted like it was full of ginger and it was so dry. I've been going here since I first came to the States (22 years ago). When I became an adult and moved out on my own I would always want my own bread and baked goods. So I decided to go in this weekend! And it brought back so many memories. I purchased a fresh (hot) small white bread, spicy beef patty and coco bread. Now the hot bread was a definite! I have to tell my boyfriend to keep his hands off my bread . I told him he can get his own for $8 lol. The patty is okay, but I'm very picky when It comes to my beef Pattie's. But the bread and the ginger or coconut bulla is amazing! The line can get a bit long, but usually move pretty fast. Definitely worth it. read more

This is not the actual 5 star patty place - it is a knock off. For real though, the patty is not even close to being actual Jamaican patty.

It seems that every time I go to this bakery they never have any spicy beef I'm starting to doubt if it's even on the menu... Fair enough it's a place to get a decent patty near enough to my job. They also take credit cards as well. The food itself is pretty good but logistical setup lacks order. For a small bakery that gets long lines they should get some sort of rope setup to make the line more orderly. read more

So disappointed! Hadn't been to this bakery In years. Decided to visit but everything we bought was "off". Beef patties had a hint of sweetness. Gizzarda was stale and as hard as a rock and harddough bread was bland. Something has definitely changed. read more

Patties are good but the customer service here is beyond trash. The only time I've experienced good service is when the Spanish/coolie woman served me in the mornings before 10am. Everyone else moves extremely slow with nasty attitudes. One morning I go in to grab a few patties before work for my office. I walk in no one is in the front. I say Good morning loudly 2x no one responds. The Sad part is I can see the cashier in through the kitchen window, in the back chatting it up with someone else. I figured maybe she didn't hear me. I say good morning 2 more times even louder. She's back there laughing it upppppp doesn't budge or anything. She obviously heard me but her conversation was far more important than her job. When she came out after about 2 whole dang minutes, she had an attitude but likewise sister girl, bc I too have an attitude. She served me old stale ass patties (everyone at my job was complaining, which made me look back bc I was bragging on how good and fresh the patties usually are) That wasn't just unprofessional but just nasty on her part. Usually when you purchase different types of patties they label the bags. The cashier put all the patties in one bag without labeling them. When I asked her to label them, she cut her eyes at me-not that I care, it's just rude, anyways she labeled them but she did it w. way too much attitude. Nonetheless, I would never recommend this place. And I hope they hire new staff bc it's never a pleasant visit. And even when the line is out the door, the cashiers still take their slow time "bagging patties and bread" just a mess. Sometimes they don't even greet you in the morning. Like Love, it's not even 10am what the hell are you so angry about???? No one told y'all to apply here if you cannot offer decent service and it wouldn't kill anyone to smile or act like they want their damn job. Not even worth it!!!! read more

I used to go here a lot to pick up some Jamaican pastries/baked goods. It's weird but some of the items are listed on the blackboard with prices but others don't have them. A package of sweetbread (6 buns) was $3.25. They also make their own sorrel, soursop, etc. They've got great Jamaican patties and the last time I went (maybe 2 years ago) they had a deal where you could get 10 frozen beef patties for $12. read more

Solid patties. Pretty consistent whenever I've visited. They get super busy during lunch time and there is no AC.Well if there is one it's never on when I'm there it seems. That's a problem in the FL heat and bakery hot from the ovens. Broward meat used to be right beside here and have since moved to the plaza is a little less busy. Never had any baked goods so I can't comment on that but if your're passing by. Grab a beef patty. read more
