Unfortunately, my first experience with this store was ridiculously bad. I try to support local shops. I needed tubes. Apparently, asking the sales guy for what I wanted set him off. Long story short, he challenged me to buy what he chose, was holding and shaking in my face! Bad! Assuming he knew more than me about what I wanted, I also recieved the beginning of a lecture on tubes (which was an amateurish discourse on the subject) twice. read more

Better than online shopping. There prices weren't too much different than amazon/guitar center online, and overall they saved me more money than if I purchased online. Very knowledgeable staff, and down to earth honesty about the products. We ordered a spotlight through them, and in the meantime they offered us to use their floor model until it came in...Lucky for me, it came in sooner than they anticipated. I love Charlie's music, they've always been good to me. I recently decided to invest in a PA system, so went down to there to check things out. Tom was great in assisting me pick out a PA system and mixer for my needs. After having trouble figuring out how to use the mixer, I brought it back to Charlie's and Steve took the time to hook things up and show me (an amateur, haha) how to use it. I visited Charlie's yesterday. Not so sure what the bad reviews are all about. I just went in for strings and found the salesperson very friendly. The store looked orderly vs what some reviews state. No, it's not Guitar Center, but I don't think I overpaid for Elixir strings. I have honestly gotten "deceived" (for lack of a better word) in trade-in's and purchases at Guitar Center. Plus, it is so noisy from back round music and people showing off their licks that you really can't concentrate on what your buying. I'd go back to Charley's again. I'd be interested in repair and setup reviews for this store more than purchases. Four stars for now. I'll see what happens after future visits. read more

One of the worst music stores I have ever been to. Tried to buy a BOSS pedal for my guitar. Average retail price was $50-60. This place was trying to charge me $110!!!! Can you fucking believe that? I understand a $10 or $20 markup....but double? comon. Not to mention the attitude I received when they told me I was wrong. I had to show them on my Iphone because they legitimately did not believe me. AND THEN. after that, they charged me $70 because he said "by the time you drive to guitar center or order it online you're going to pay that much in gas or shipping." Well then, that makes me really want to come back to this place right? Id rather do both of those things JUST to not deal with the overweight whining bitch behind the counter. I recently heard of and visited Charlie's Music/Cape Cod ProAudio Store in Hyannis to purchase some guitar strings. That's something I could have purchased online from web sights named after rivers or box stores that claim to be the 'center' of the guitar universe. But that would be missing the point of having a local music store. Being a musician, or in my case a dad who knows how to play guitar and wants to share that with his daughter, I am a very tactile individual who needs to touch the merchandise I'm considering purchasing. Having that at a local store with proprietors willing to sit and talk about the products they sell is a treasure. See if your barrista will do that next time you're at Starbucks. And I don't need to place my ratings on a "wait and see" basis. I showed up, made a transaction, and got some personal attention to my interests too. If I was back in high school I would be "hanging out" at this place all the time, and I can't wait to take the newest guitar player in the family there. That's how great America is! read more

Considering we're located on Cape Cod and that there are almost no big music stores around, Charlie's does a great job of providing a wide variety of gear and the prices are actually competitive with bigger stores. The guys there are friendly and knowledgeable, and helpful. The Sweetpickles review is way off at this point in time. I left a guitar for repair, got it back in less than a week, and the tech did a fantastic job on it. It's definitely the best place in the area. Just wish they were open on Sundays. read more
