After many years of the chain and fast cut coupon salons I decided on giving a barber shop a turn. That was three+ years ago and Charlie's was my first try which I have never regretted. He is always consistent and provides more service than what I was getting at the previous hair joints. He vacuums his work from your person and does a hot lather razor finale on the back of the neck. Does he talk a lot? Nope and that's fine with me. There is a seniors day which I believe is Wednesday but I am happy to pay his regular price plus tip. Cheers to you Charlie! read more

If there was an option for less than half a star I would've opted for that. Came in asked for a clean cut around the ears. I usually trust the people cutting my hair because I'm not a picky person. I just needed a quick cut for an emergency. The person didn't greet me didn't say much but was very rude and refused to cut my hair because I wasn't "specific" enough. To make the story short I just don't recommend anyone go to this place. Barber doesn't trust himself to make a good haircut with his style then how can you trust him? Absolutely horrible read more

I've been looking for a new barber after my old one retired and sold the business, and I decided to give Charlie's a try because of the excellent Yelp reviews claiming the barber "knows what he's doing" and "takes his time." For the first time, Yelp has seriously let me down. I am terribly disappointed and cannot fathom how people think Charlie's provides a quality haircut, unless those people maybe have never had a decent haircut before. I have a common, easy, traditional business hairstyle with a fade on the sides and longer on the top to where I can comb it back with a side part. I went into Charlie's looking for a typical trim for me, taking off 1/2" on the sides and 1" on the top. I sat down, told the barber exactly what I wanted and how much I wanted taken off. I even pointed to a vintage advertisement he has on the wall with my hair style titled "the businessman." He went to work. While he didn't talk much, he seemed kind and to-the-point, which I appreciate in a barber. I immediately noticed something was wrong when he didn't wet my hair and comb it before cutting. At no time during the haircut did he apply water or check to see how the cuts were laying. I've never been to a barber who didn't wet my hair before cutting it and who didn't comb through it to see how it lays, so that was unusual. With the light pomade in my hair, since I was on my way home from work, it was also uncomfortable with him tugging at my hair with the comb that wouldn't smoothly slide through. The second most unusual and problematic thing is that he cut almost my entire hair with clippers--even the top. I felt like a hedge being trimmed, and I knew the results weren't going to be good. Barbers have always used clippers on some of the sides and then only scissors on the top. He only touched up a couple hairs around my forehead hairline with scissors. The entire haircut took about 10 minutes and cost me $14 plus tip. 10 minutes isn't "taking his time" to me when most other barbers I've had take at least 15. He never offered to trim my eyebrows, razor shave my neck like some reviewers mention, or seemed all that interested in the final product and craftsmanship. When I looked in the mirror at the shop, I knew he had cut far too much off and hadn't paid any attention to my natural hair tenancies, such as how it lays, where it tends to stick up, etc. When I got home, I washed my hair, combed it, let it dry, and surveyed the damage. It's the worst haircut I've ever had as an adult, and that's been a long time with many barbers and many cuts. The base of my neck is the nicest part with a straight and clean cut. However, he didn't so much fade the sides as simply run a #4 clipper from top to bottom. Tufts of longer hairs stick out on the sides that I will have to trim off myself. The top is the worst part. Rather than taking off 1" as I requested, he took off about 2.5" to where I pretty much have a flat-top with rounded sides. The hair is so short that I cannot get it to lie down and comb back, even with a liberal amount of pomade. The side part is particularly affected by this issue because rather than leaving enough hair for me to comb back both sides of the part, he cut so much off that the hairs on either side of the part stick straight out, which looks absolutely silly. I will have to let my hair grow out for 2 months before another barber has enough material to correct the mistakes. I'll have to live with these issues for at least 1 month before I can get things to lie down somewhat properly and not look bizarre. I know the barber does not speak the most fluent English, so maybe he misunderstood me and thought I wanted 1" left on the top and not 1" taken off, but both the hairstyle I came in with and the advertisement on the wall I pointed to should have clarified what I wanted, or he should have asked for clarification in the mirror before cutting off so much. I had no mirror on the wall in front of me to even see he was not giving me the cut I requested. I asked for a "trim" and not a new hairstyle. I have no idea how people think this barber gives a quality haircut and barbershop experience for what other barbers provide for the same price. Maybe he was having an off day, but his lack of attention and shortcuts using the clippers and no water are unacceptable to me regardless. I highly recommend you don't try this place. read more

Dont go here to get a haircut, there are so many other options. Im 20 years old and Charlie treated me like a child rather than a customer. I wanted my neck line cleaned up. Worst place ever! If besides getting a haircut, you want to experience the worst customer service, by all means go to this barber shop. Rudest one ever. I do agree the price is right, but other than that, do not expect much. Advice to owner: be cordial and polite to your customers if you care to keep them coming back. read more

I find the Scott F review below quite funny given from his picture that he doesn't have any hair on top....lol I have been to Charlie's twice and have not been disappointed. After spending $35 plus for haircuts for a long long time I thought I would give him a try. I am 55 years old and care about how I look. I am in front of the public all day and my hair cut is important to me. For those of you thinking about going to Charlie you need to know some things. 1. Sit in the chairs up front and wait for him to call you back. He does not like you walking back to his area while he is sweeping up from the previous customer. 2. When he calls you back, sit down in the chair before you tell him how you want your hair cut. I get the strong feeling he prefers that so he can look at your previous cut while you tell him what you want. 3. Speak in terms of definite measurement. Don't say "take a little bit off the top and sides" Say: Take 1 inch off all around, or 1/2 inch off the sides and 1 inch off the top" etc. Charlie wants specifics, not guessing. 4. If you are so particular that you require scissors instead of a razor or hair has to be wet or combed through, go some place else, PLEASE. Charlie uses a razor and comb on my hair and scissors on the top and it looks great. He has always wet my hair down before he cuts it. 5. Amazing job at a great, honest price. $12 or so. No coupons etc....Old school barber that even shaves the neck with a razor. Doesn't rush you out-takes his time. Hardly ever a wait line. Same guy-same haircut every time. Tip this man please. Even with a generous tip it is cheaper than the chains. read more

Never been here before, just wanted to get a nice haircut on the cheap. Was $12, he sat me down in a nice leather barbers chair in front of a flatscreen TV and went to work. No small talk, no fuss. Asked me what I wanted and I got it right away. Would definitely recommend coming here and will be returning next time my hair needs a trim! read more
