The food is excellent but the service was horrible. I ordered 16 cheesesteaks for 6:00. I ordered it on line by 10:30 am. When I was on my way to pick them up I got a call asking me if it was a real order. I paid $374 so yeah it was. She said it will be a while. I said I live about 30 mins away but I would be there by 6:00. When I got there the girl said there's only two of us and it's a big order. I would have to wait. She turned down other customers in the meantime telling them she had a big order and it was going to take a long time. I finally got my order by 6:30. I lived in Salinas for many years, and Charley's was one of my regular stops. I like variety in my diet so I would never order the same thing. That is, except for those gourmet fries. When you add bacon and cheddar cheese on top it takes you to a whole new level of goodness. Now there are cheesesteaks, and there are cheesesteaks. But Charley takes it to a whole new level. extremely dissatisfied. Customer service is awful. I ordered my sandwich. The way I always do, I've been coming here for years. Today when I checked my food after ordering inside, they put all the cold toppings on top when I asked for the sandwich to be plain. when I let the employee know incorrect, she proceeded to tell me it's my fault for not being more specific. I then let her know I've been coming here for a while and I order the sandwich the same way every single time, so then I asked for my money back or a remake. the employee continue to roll her eyes and get upset and tell me she was going to remake it. First time trying Charleys at the Northridge mall, and I really enjoyed the cheesesteak sandwich. And they were toasted perfectly. Next time I'll ask to add spicy chillies, if available, to give the sandwiches an extra kick, but overall, I was very happy with the food and service. We stopped in here for lunch on our way to Monterey. Normally I'm a big fan of Charleys, but this location just didn't really impress me. It was around 2pm on a Sunday. It was busy but not any busier than normal for a restaurant in a mall food court. The staff wasn't rude. They were just lacking personality, like they either hated their jobs or hated us but had to fake it anyways. We had combos. The sandwiches came out looking pretty good but with my first bite I could taste that the lettuce had something wrong with it. It was very stale tasting almost and flavorless. I ended up needing to take it off which is sad because I love lettuce. The fries tasted like cardboard, very much not fresh and likely had been sitting for a long time. Even ketchup didn't save them. At least the soda tasted like it was supposed to. Without something to wash it down with I would have been in real trouble. I know Charleys is a better chain than this. This location just needs a little help to match the brand standard. read more

When I first saw this little philly cheesesteak place open up I totally thought it was going to one of those "open for a year, quickly shuts down for lack of customers" places that the mall is famous for. I ordered a sandwich with full intention of just trying this place out at least once before it quietly closes down. Wow was I wrong. I was blown away. I ordered the classic philly cheese with everything on it and it was honestly perfection. From the perfectly cooked steak and melted cheese, to all the fresh toppings to choose from. Nothing in the cheesesteak is too overpowering in flavor. Everything compliments each other with each and every bite. Prices are a little steep but you'll leave the place completely satisfied. Totally worth it. This is around my 5th time here. I usually don't come to the mall but in the rare occasion that I do, this is totally my go-to spot. Never been disappointed. 4 stars for the cheesesteaks, pretty tasty, wasn't overcooked. Deducted 1 star for their rude cashier lady. The other people working were nice though (griller and wrapper person). Spoke a little bit wit them. Cashier rolled her eyes at me and just had a general annoyed attitude when I confused 60 cents with 16 cents. Those sound very similar, I gave you 60 cents... You rolled your eyes and said with your annoyed self, "it's sixteeeen ma'am." Putting 'ma'am' at the end does not remove the unnecessary attitude. Deducted points because the cashier Ashley was ridiculous. She doesn't acknowledge you, she makes excuses, and the list goes on. The 2 men that were working with her were very nice and helpful. But the Ashley girl tried to say that the fries had fallen in the bag when I said I paid for large fries. She giggled like it was some big joke to her. The fries were in a to-go container. She in front of myself and many other customers told her staff she'd be going to the back to wash dishes and that they needed to make her alot of money. That the last shift made her an extra 200+ she also had a rude tone with the staff. Clearly I understand it's a business and maybe it's a "pep talk" but in front of customers not cool. The first time I came here, long ago, I looked at the grill and canceled the order. I gave them another try and was pleasantly surprised. The regular size cheese steak had ample meat and was tasty. The $12.32 bill for the combo was a shocker. I'm from the Philadelphia area, but I don't grade California sandwiches against the real thing. It was pretty good for Cali.
