They do the job punching the buttons and collecting the payment, but that's where it ends. Understanding that, the store itself is massive. Several coffee options, frozen drinks, coolers full of many different brands and flavours. Shelves of most anything you could possibly need. But the biggest attraction: Chester's Chicken. Chester's is hot chicken prepared on site, offered in combination or ala carte'. When we lived downstate we ate Chester's for lunch 2-3 times a week. Imagine my surprise finding this one. Like I was just some stupid guy the man working the register then looks me in the eye and says she is the rudest person he ever met I mean this is his coworker!!!!!! So I said I could wait for the fresh chicken tenders he looks at me again says good luck I'm clocking out so I waited 6 min and then the lady grabbed the 3- old tenders chucking them in a box mean as hell I then said I just waited for fresh so she threw the tenders back in the warmer and said THOSE Were NOT OLD!!!!!! The store really should have a Yelp account so others can weigh in and more folks can check this place out. Now they do. Buddied-up with D&W Fresh Market, you have options to not only walk through the store, but order online for curbside or home delivery. I usually stop in for drinks and snacks. We had rescued two cats back in February, and bought our first bag of cat food at this store. Since it is considered best not to change a pet's food, we continued buying it her. When I went in a week to buy another bag, I was told that they had not had time to unload a truck and distribute items throughout the store. When I mentioned my concerns about changing the cat food, Lisa took me into the back of the store to look through pallets stacked high. After several minutes of searching, Lisa found one of the bags I needed - at the bottom of a stack. She then moved numerous bags to get the one I needed. Lisa went well beyond what I might have expected, and I want to give her a very big thanks for her help. We will continue to buy our cat food - as well as many other items - from this Dollar General, largely due to the quality of the staff. Thank you!

So off we go and the first thing I notice is this place has a fair number of gas pumps. Clearly, there was no turning away from the fact that this is going to be fried chicken from a gas station. We walk in and it's a typical mini mart. Candy, soft drinks, beer, chips, you know the classics. But then I looked to my left. Tucked away in the far reaches of this place , far away from the Dorritos, was a warm spirit of a woman standing behind a hot area of golden fried chicken. Was I dreaming? A muliple line gas station housing the sweet smell of fried wonderfulness? I was expecting us to go up to her and order so much chicken that she surely would not be able to handle. People don't walk in here and buy chicken for six. People are coming here and buying chicken for one to eat in their car on the side of the road. But to my amazement, my friend had ordered ahead of time and this warm angel picked up a large to-go bag with multitudes of drums and breasts, fried up in some secret gas station chicken recipe, and handed it to us. Was this actually happening? At home at dinner I was expecting to eat a small drum and thigh. I put extra apple sauce on the side for security. And then I tasted this gas station chicken. I slash my food bill by half with this store alone. Some of the products we enjoy more than their more popular counterparts. Most everything we bought at the other grocery stores, we can find here. For less. If your not familiar with Aldi, bring a quarter with you to lease a shopping cart. It sounds silly, but, we as a society are so cheap that we'll return the cart just to get the quarterback. This location NEVER has idle shopping carts roaming around the parking lot, ramming into your car. Pretty smart. The ambiance is just as great as the more popular chains. You need to bring your own bags/boxes or purchase them for a small pittance. Personally, I think it's silly, but it contributes to the company saving and hopefully passing it along to its customers! 11/23

A busy little market that doubles as a Shell gas station…read more They don't brew fresh pots of coffee, instead using machines that pre-measure the amounts and offers you the option to leave room. I bet you've seen this somewhere. A highlight is the Sumatra Mandheling dark roast that comes out perfect every time. I've been known to stop just for the coffee and nothing else. But I'm strange and I have to pass this station a dozen times a week. On to the gas prices which are pretty competitive when you consider there is no immediate competition. My method is simply to note all the gas prices in my town as I drive to Charlevoix, compare those numbers with Bay Market and then neighboring Petoskey. On the way back home, I reward the lowest bidder by filling up. The rest is boiler plate stuff. Beer, wine, snacks, pop and sweets. A small difference is they carry grocery store items such as canned goods like soup and Beefaroni. Boxes of noodles and rice, etc. I've only encountered two fellows and neither was overly nice. Not mean, just matter of fact, you're a number, cash or charge, have a nice day. But I don't much care since I'm here for a cuppa Joe! At least the store is clean and one of the guys is very artistic. Different drawings and price menus are on the wall each week. It's a decent time, but I wouldn't scurry down here unless you needed something. 11/23
