It's not easy to find an honest/fair anything nowadays but Charest checks all the boxes. Of course price is always important but even more so is the honesty and knowledge of the techs doing the work. Chris replaced my furnace blower motor for a reasonable price; explained to me (and showed me) what was malfunctioning and performed the work in a timely manner. I definitely got the sense that he genuinely cared and it wasn't just about the money. For me that's pretty huge so yes, I highly recommend Charest. read more

I will start by saying I never write reviews. My furnace stopped working this past Saturday. Charest responded quickly and diagnosed the problem within an hour after I called. I was told it would require a new blower motor. Received call that I also required a blower control board. Quote was for $1740. I was stuck with no heat so I approved work. Upon approval my furnace was fixed within two hours. 3 hours of work and less than $300 in parts. What a ripoff. He knew I didn't have heat. I wouldn't ever use them again and would never recommend. This should have been no more the $600 repair. read more

Been using Charente for the last 6 years to tune up my AC and furnace each spring and winter. The last year they have become completely unreliable. Last spring they never showed up for my appointment. Last winter they called me right before my appointment to reschedule. I thought I would give them one more chance this spring and left a voicemail 3 days ago to schedule my tune up for this spring and no answer. read more

I hired Charest first to come out and check my stand alone attic mounted AC air handler. The tech came out, check out the entire unit, cleaned all the drain lines, and said I was good to go. All this for what I felt was a very fair price. I asked the tech to cost estimate me a new whole house HVAC system with a 90%+ efficient furnace and AC. He did that and sent me the estimate before he left. Again at a very fair price comparing it to other estimates. I had them replace my HVAC system and was very impressed. They are hard working, no added fees and I couldn't be more pleased with the new whole house HVAC. I would recommend and hire them again!! read more

Almost had 5 stars. Service tech was friendly, knowledgeable, and fixed our A/C unit swiftly! Price for everything was very competitive. Lost a star because the appointment was for 5pm and the tech came around 7pm, without any communication that they would be running late. I'll be honest about this. We have had up and down issues with this place. Our furnace is right next to our water heater. They installed our furnace but did not account for spacing if we ever had to replace our water heater, which we just had to do. The air filter from the furnace was already tight to replace with the old water heater. I called, talked to Josh and he said we would have to pay for them to move it. I totally disagree with that since they should have known there would eventually be an issue since new water heaters are bigger now a days. And they install both appliances. Josh asked me to send pics of the issue which I did, and haven't heard back from him. I'm done with this place. read more

Furnace stopped working last night. Called Charest @ 11 pm after reading all of the great Yelp reviews. Someone actually answered and said they'd call first thing in the morning. At 9 am the phone rang, and they said someone would be here this morning. 10 am got phone call that they were on their way. 1115, work completed and I have heat again. Joey was great technician. I called Charest a few weeks ago because I read their reviews and the owners used to live in our condo complex. They no longer live there and haven't in years, so I am not sure why they have that address listed as their place of business - because it is not. I spoke to Mike the owner and stated I wanted a HVAC company I could trust and be able to work with the future. I told him I needed an air conditioner cleaning and most likely will need it replaced in the years to come (it is original and is aging) but again, wanted to have a relationship with a HVAC company who had integrity and wouldn't just be selling something. He scheduled the cleaning for Tuesday, 6/21 from 12 pm - 2 pm. Well, on that day, at 9 am my cell phone started ringing back to back with a number I didn't recognize. I work in the healthcare field and normally would not have answered, but I became concerned...and this is where the fun began... I could barely understand what the person on the other end was frantically saying and finally, I confirmed the name and it was Mike Charest. He asked if he could have someone to my home at 9:30 am to clean my air conditioner. I told him I couldn't do that because I couldn't get away from work that early. He went on to say he had appointments in Chesterfield that afternoon and with the construction on 696, he couldn't be there at my scheduled time of 11 am. I then explained my appointment was not at 11 am, it was from 12 pm - 2 pm (I remember Mike saying they schedule in 2 hour blocks because they cannot guarantee an exact time.) Then out of the blue and TOTALLY UNEXPECTED Mike told me to "just call another company"! I was in completed shock, I had rearranged my work day to be home from 12 pm - 3 pm and now he is telling me to just call another company?!? It is Summer and I had already wanted a few weeks since I had scheduled my appointment and again, had scheduled my entire work day around it. He was still a bit frantic and said, "I will mail you check for $69.00 to cover the cost of the air conditioning cleaning and inconvenience. I went on to say, I just want my air conditioner cleaned. He began to ramble and offered to send the check again. Since I was at work, I couldn't keep having this back and forth, so I said fine. Now, 1 week later and NO CHECK or a call from Mike apologizing. I would not recommend this company to anyone. If a company does not value its customers and the commitments they make, then they are never going to do business with me and my family. read more

I have used them for both my home in Ferndale and the rental home in Detroit. They have installed a tankless water heater and a new AC unit. Once I had to use them for an emergency: no heat. They came right away. I don't feel like I'm getting screwed and they have always been very professional. Mike likes to talk a lot and he's pretty funny. read more

Phenomenal customer service. Josh came out at the time he said he would (no 3 hour window) the day I called for service. He was very informative, answering every question professionally. The diagnostic fee was at least $20 cheaper than every other place I called. After paying for the replaced part, the unit destroyed it, so he returned the money for the part saying he didn't accomplish what he came out to do. After getting home after 9 PM on a Saturday, I could hear the burner on my furnace turing on and off continuously. Reluctantly, I called at 9:45 (I felt rude). I left a voicemail explaining the issue and did not expect to hear back until the next day or possibly Monday morning. To my surprise, I received a call back from Josh just after 10 PM and he offered to come out to Shelby Twp that night. The temps were in the 20's so I didn't consider it an emergency. I turned the furnace off and we agreed he would come out Sunday morning. He offered to work around my church schedule or whatever I needed. After some diagnostics on my old furnace, which he kindly walked me through as he did it, he was able to solve the problem and even did some maintenance work while he had things opened up. Might I add when I say diagnostics, he was literally wedged inside my furnace getting a better look at things! I rated 5 stars because the service was impecable, he was very transparent on what he was doing and why, and he taught me a few things about my system that I didn't exactly know previously. The willingness to respond the weekend is awesome. Yes, there is a premium for that service, but it is great service. Josh was even nice to my dog who can be extremely vocal until she's properly acknowledged! I will certainly have Charest Heating and Cooling stored in my phone come time for a new furnace in the near future. I highly recommend this company. read more

We have been using Charest Heating and Cooling for several years and have been very satisfied with their service. Most recently, they responded very quickly to our malfunctioning A/C and spent considerable time diagnosing the problem. When they determined that the A/C needed to be replaced (no surprise, it was 17 years old), they waived the fee for that service call and gave us a good deal on a new air conditioner. They arrived on time to install it, worked hard and efficiently, cleaned up perfectly after themselves,and provided recommendations on care and maintenance. The new unit cools the house more evenly and is much more efficient than our old unit. I have been using Charest Heating and Cooling for the last few years, on the recommendation of a friend. They put in A/C for me a few years ago and they do routine checks each fall and spring. Saturday, around 3:30 pm I heard an ominous gurgle coming from the direction of the water heater. Sure enough, water was pouring out. As I have never been in this situation, I called Charest. Right away, Josh was there to shut off the gas and water flow into the tank. He attached a hose to drain it directly into the floor drain. He made arrangements to install the new water heater today (Monday). He and Joey arrived at the promised time and installed the water heater, carted off the old one, and did a free furnace check. The price was very reasonable (as has been the case with everything they have done for me). I have complete confidence in their work and would heartily recommend them to anyone needing this type of service. read more
