I visited based on a coworker recommendation. I was told that Croaker's Sport has great seafood and…read morecornbread. Overall, I enjoyed the experience, but I rate this more of a 3.5 rounded to 4. Ambiance: The spot is historic and well kept. It was clean and we were able to find street parking. Service: The service was friendly, patient, and informal. We came on a Wednesday around noon, so it wasn't too crowded. Our waitress was attentive. Food: The food was good overall, with some standout items and some leaving more to be desired. We started with the clam chowder soup. We found it to be a bit tangy, but it got the job done. We also go the fish dinner with buffalo sauce (on the side). The fish was really good. However, the mac and cheese was grainy. The flavor of the mac and cheese was good, but the flavor is subjective. I also got the oyster po boy sandwich. I was serviceable. It didn't knock my socks off, but I have no complaints. I did enjoy the sauce that came with it. The french fries were fluffy, in a good way. The cornbread was textbook and solid. I didn't wow us, but it was a sizeable portion. Conclusion: Overall, my curiosity has been satisfied, but I didn't get the wow factor. I would consider coming here if I had a strong craving for a fish dinner.

On an impromptu trip to Richmond we wanted to find a good brunch spot…read more While talking to my honey pot he said Croaker's Spot was it! He's a foodie, so say less! In your tastebuds I trust. Thankfully we got there early before the Sunday crowd came in and got a booth. Service was good but weird at times with the bar tender being super catty. It appeared she was not in the spirit of team work which made our visit a little uncomfortable. We asked for a cup of ice on the way out and even though the bartender had ice to give she wanted our waitress to get it from the back, it was the ODDEST interaction. The manager ended up helping out but I'm not sure why any restaurant would employ any person who was like that. Ew! Everyone else was all smiles and fantastic! Let's get into it! Oyster Rockefeller- OMG these have to be one of the BEST ones I've ever had in my life! Sooooo GOOD! Like good, good! Buffalo Shrimp - Good! Croakers Brunch Special was okay! Waffle was extremely sweet! Grits were thick, I was not a fan. Overall, I'd come back this food has SOUL! And someone's daddy is making those plates in the back with love! Perfect recommendation and a must do when in Richmond. No frills but good food! Sunday best is okay as most people looked real cute! Okay cute patrons!

We were visiting at the VA hospital and was looking for a place we could get a home cooked meal for…read moreeveryone. Harold's did not disappoint!!! We called in a very large order and the lady on the phone was extremely patient and didn't mind helping us make choices. Once we arrived to pick up the food the owner himself came out to welcome us and go over the order. He was very pleasant.... NOW THE FOOD!!!! AMAZING!!! Everything was fresh and hot!!

I really am the HUGEST advocate and supporter for our black owned businesses and restaurants; but I…read morethink that I'd be doing my community a disservice if I wrongly rate my food experience based solely on just that....I ordered two plates: baked turkey wings with baked Mac and cabbage and meatloaf with gravy and mashed potatoes and green beans. The turkey wings were flavorless. They tasted like they were baked with water and its juices that accumulated in the pan from cooking. The Mac and cheese did not own up to its namesake and the cabbage was salty but tender. So I'll give an A+ for texture. Next up is the meatloaf plate: where do I even begin? Let's start with the meat:absolutely dry. I am not certain as to why it was not cooked WITH the gravy, BUT it wasn't. Now the GRAVY: OMG! THICK and straight out of the McCormick, Pioneer or Great value, Kroger or whoever else makes powdered brown gravy mix. Literally mixed per instructions and boiled til thick and nothing else was done to it. No seasoning. No nothing. Listen, I use that pack gravy; but you gotta know what to do with that when you're using it. Mmkay?? Mashed potatoes were homemade which I love; but the dollop of the same meatloaf gravy was ladled on top; so I was unable to even enjoy that one thing on my plate that actually made sense.....the green beans: SALTY! And the cornbread that people had previously raved about that 'was moist and cake like' was dense and had not a drop of sweetness in it. The star of the show was the roll that came with my turkey wing plate. I just warmed that in the oven and threw a bit of honey butter on it because I literally could not consume that food. Our people really gotta do better when it comes to advertising 'soul food', because that comes with expectations that you will deliver a meal that is going to be of comfort and nostalgia. I was EXTREMELY displeased.

I had the sweet potato cornbread, crispy salmon, with a side of collards. My wife had the oysters (with a really tasty hot sauce) and the crab cake (no filler). Everything was savory and light, cooked to perfection. We were both stuffed as we walked away from this gem!

The server, Briana, was one of the best I've had in a very long time. Personable, great smile, friendly, and knew her stuff. We ordered the brussel sprouts- they were great with a nice heat from the sauce. We had the crispy skin salmon, which came with a nice fresh salad, The skin was amazingly crispy and the flesh was flavorful. I asked Briana to surprise me with something good and boy did she deliver. It was their porkchop served over some super tasty mashed potatoes. Note that this is not how they are usually served, it was Briana's favorite way to eat this dish so she made the decision for me. The porkchop was very very good. Nice grill marks, onions, and a very nice cream-based sauce. This was so so good. They are doing great food at this new location and I will be back again.
