Food was ok but overall, kebab meat from the mixed platter was a bit under flavored. The chicken needed more salt. The sambusas were ok when hot but solidified with cooling. It's very loud here, especially as there was a performance. No surprise that the waiter misheard our order and we never got the beef sambusas we asked for, but instead, another set of cheese sambusas. Too much smoke in this hookah lounge. Was glad for my mask and eat plugs to block out the loud music and strong smoke smell. The show was pleasant and free with dinner, so on the whole a nice experience. Free valet parking. Reserve ahead of time to get a spot on busy nights like show nights. A Syrian singer sang covers of middle eastern songs. The concert aspect was fun.

From my understanding they're under new ownership and they are now open for lunch. At first site I was rather confused at the entrance because no one is there to greet you and there are 2 huge gray doors that don't exactly communicate "come in". However, I am so glad I peeked in because I was greeted by very friendly people and a beautiful atmosphere / ambiance, where you can have a conversation, and the music isn't overpowering nor are other people's conversations. Good for a couple or groups. They have more than enough seating. We ordered as an appetizer Jajeek (see pic). We've never had it before but dang it was very good. For the main course we ordered the lamb shank and the mixed beef plate (see pics). Delicious doesn't begin to describe what we were eating.. All the different spices, textures and flavors were a thrill ride for the taste buds. I drank a Diet Coke (my go to) and Omar had an iced tea (see pic) which wasn't even on the menu but the waitress, Rowa (awesome), made it from what she had available and Omar says it was delicious. There was a LOT of food. So we had to take some home but that was just to make room for dessert...kunafa (see pic)...yummers!!! Are we coming back? HECK YA and you might want to give it a try too. Reasonably priced for these days of inflationary pressures.

I went to Charcoal House last Friday with group of friends to attend an Assyrian comedy show, Ramina. The event was not ver organized in my opinion. We had an assigned table, but they put us on a different table next to it, not a big deal. The chairs were very uncomfortable. We ordered the Maza platter for appetizer which included tabola, hummus, baba ghanog, and chacheek for $35 and it was good. For dinner, we ordered Tray one which has mixed grills for $99 and it was advertised to come with rice, but it came with out it. When we asked about the rice, they said they were out, but they will bring us more fries. The fries never came, they were out of that too. They added 25% service fee which I didn't mind because the waiter was really nice and always checking in. They offered free parking.

For those of us who have always known this place as the "Wrinkle Room" (old dive bar with Karaoke) this place has been TOTALLY revamped!!! Take a look at these pics (attached) Went for lunch with a friend last week. BEAUTIFUL venue perfect for receptions or large parties! No afternoon Hookah (only at night), but food and service was AMAZING! My friend ordered waaaay too much food but it gave me an opportunity to try everything. The appetizer plate had four dips (hummus, Tabbouleh, Tzatziki, and one more?) all of them DELICIOUS! Then the chicken / steak / Kabob, rice and salad came out and it was SO good too! The service was 5 star! The hostess / waitress were SO attentive and even made me a drink based on what I told her liked and it was PERFECT! There are beautiful leather booths that offer each party a semi private area and the bar is GORGEOUS! Hopefully the pictures I've attached do it justice. Follow up: Went for Shisha (hookah) and drinks the other night. It was packed (they had a special guest singer performing) and it was a PAAARRTY!! Tried smoking with a grapefruit bowl (see photo) for the first time and it really added a great touch!! I don't know what they are called on the menu, but we had these little chicken appetizers that came out with tinfoil on the leg (to keep your fingers clean while eating?) and they were SOOOOOO delicious!!!! You gotta check this place out!!

The food at Charcoal House is incredible! The service is excellent and the staff are so friendly and on top of it. I've gone to a couple events recently and it gets better each time. The DJs and singers each weekend make such a fun evening. I highly recommend checking them out for lunch, dinner or a fun night out. They have many events throughout the week and weekend.

When will you be done with patio renovations?

    They are done

Any idea when the long overdue renovations to the outside will be completed? I drive through there everyday and still have not seen the new outdoor furniture? Are they already done with the upgrade?

Hi Fernando, the renovations are almost complete, and will launch mid-April 2018. The restaurant and bar has been open the whole time. Visit our facebook page for new photos and the latest details.

It was myself and two friends there 11/10/2023 and one friend had to use the restroom, we went to the restroom and security was being extremely inconsiderate of the circumstances. There was a line for the ladies, no line for the men's so we decided the men's stall was the best option, after just watching 2 women leaving the stall. As we were waiting, a security guard decided he needed to use the restroom, cool we let him go ahead. He came out of the stall and said we need to wait till he cleans it. We waited, then after awhile she just went ahead and used it. The guard at the door felt a way because she used it, decided he wanted to kick us out of your establishment. When she came out we went back to the section, they called backup so it was a female officer and about 2/3 others that came over hostile for absolutely no reason. I asked what the issue was, she used the restroom and we're good now why do we need to leave. She said she doesn't care and we need to get out. I told her we spent money on hookah and drinks and it was pointless to kick us out, the female officer started grabbing me and I told her that's not necessary, she started swinging on me so I defended myself. They all started pushing and shoving us all around the establishment to the front door, leaving my belongings. My other friend stepped in between trying to deescalate because again it was all unnecessary. Once outside, they continued to be hostile and very aggressive. My friend that had nothing to do with it asked to grab our belongings, they told him no only the white girl can come back in. She tried and they said we have to come back in the morning. I said absolutely not, we need our belongings now if you're kicking us out. They proceeded to deny us and we stayed outside until the main aggressor finally decided to bring our belongings out, I snatched my phone out of his hand and he decided to go out of his way to pepper spray my friend, threw her to the ground then made it a point to go around the whole group to pepper spray me. There was absolutely no reason or threat for him to feel the need to do that. I feel extremely disrespected, assaulted because of all of this. Especially after spending money in your establishment. These group of security guards should most definitely not be apart of your establishment. They're not good examples of good business and definitely push away loyal customers. Good luck to you guys, your establishment. We will be in touch.

The moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted and asked if I wanted a table for one. I said no, I was hoping to order takeout, and she kindly invited me to sit at the bar while I looked over the menu. Right away, the atmosphere felt welcoming, beautiful, and relaxed. I ordered my food, sipped my water, and honestly didn't think I had ordered that much. Then she came out with multiple filled brown bags of food! First of all, the prices were amazing. Second... the food was TOP NOTCH and completely different from what I had the night before. Everything was packed with flavor without being overloaded with salt. Fresh, vibrant, rich, and incredibly satisfying. The waitress/hostess was knowledgeable, friendly, and gave great recommendations on what to try. You can tell the staff truly cares about the experience. I will absolutely be back the next time I visit San Diego again. And not that I recommend eating while driving ... but the next day on my drive back to Ventura County, I spread out my leftovers and happily snacked on hummus, baba ghanoush, and dolma all the way home. That alone says everything about how good this place was.

From the first bite, it was clear this isn't just food, it is craft. You can taste the care, the precision, and the pride. Every element felt thoughtfully prepared, balanced, and deeply satisfying without trying too hard. The standout for me was the biryani, comforting, and perfectly executed. But everything impressed. The tzatziki was bright and refreshing, the hummus topped with beef shawarma was rich and flavorful, and the ney classic plate was generous enough to easily feed two, maybe even three, without sacrificing quality anywhere on the plate. It was the perfect way to try a lot of their items at once and that one disappointed! What really says it all is that I am already looking forward to the leftovers, which is rare for me. This is the kind of place that stays with you, not just because it is good, but because you can feel the heart behind it.

We ordered a standard double Apple hookah and tea - it came out within 5 minutes so that was great. Hookah was strong and quite good! For a Wednesday night they were quite busy, the spot provides free cards to play with and they play music (that's not too loud). Mostly you will hear the conversations everyone is having.
