I wish I would've read these one star reviews before we went to Dr. Chapman over six years ago pre-pandemic. Once we were all paid off, he had no concern about my child and their braces. I don't think he really considered my child's particular case ... Also just like others that have commented here - when I questioned his lack of care he became so aggressive. It was alarming. It was also embarrassing & unprofessional and pathetic that this "professional" male role model behaves in such a way in front of my child, his staff and other families. I was glad that it was over, however, I now realize that the care and the treatment plan was subpar. Also, where's all his reviews? Google only has five. I'm leaving a review for my experience here as a teenager back then. I am now in my late 20s, and I am getting invisalign done by a very friendly, professional, and respectful orthodontist. Which reminds me of my experience here back then when I had braces treatment with Dr. Chapman. Thinking back, I did not enjoy my experience here. But I was too young to tell that to my parents or the staff at Chapman Smiles. I remember Dr. Chapman and his staffs were always so rough when they were looking at my braces, there were many times I was in pain from them being way too rough as if they didn't care. And honestly, I felt like it was a race issue back then. Mind you, I am Asian. I remember seeing the way Dr. Chapman and his staffs treated the other white patients, it was different than the way I was treated - from attitude/service to handling my teeth. I always felt like they just wanted to get me out of there and over with. I don't think I was treated the way I should've been treated. As I got older, I didn't have a good impression of orthodontics. My wisdom teeth then grew out and I needed more work done to straighten my teeth again. I was hesitant to get work done again because of my experience at Chapmans. Finally after years of hesitation and seeing my friends having pleasant experiences, I decided to do invisalign, and I'm glad I found another orthodontist who shows me that THERE ARE good orthodontists out there. read more

Dr. Chapman is great! He is a ROCKSTAR of Orthodonists! He developes new techniques and teaches orthodontics. He is the best of both worlds - experienced and cutting edge. Dr. Chapman uses the penguin which eliminaetes the need to pull teeth - which is better for your oral health in the long term. Our boys' smiles are wondeful! Chapman Smiles is a preferred provider for all the insurances we have had over the years and they offer in house financing with afforadable monthly payments - which is a HUGE Plus!! Other offices use finance companies. We travel over an hour to take our childen to Dr. Chapman because he is that good! Lastly, I am forever grateful to Dr. Chapman for having in his lobby, when my children were small, a binder full of articles about the brain development of children, teenagers into adults. This information was not widely available ten years ago when I read it at Champan Smiles. My son has been going here for awhile now and we really like Dr. Chapman. They have a great office with very friendly staff. They provide games to keep the kids busy until their appointments (which never take long), and they are very knowledgeable when it comes to calming your child's fears of the dentist/orthodontist. They walked us through the process during our initial visit to make sure we understood everything with the insurance and all the issues that can happen with money, so we knew what to expect and what to do. When we moved here from Kansas City, our oldest child had just begun orthodontic treatment. We asked our KC orthodontist if he knew of anyone in the area and he immediately said "one name, Gary Chapman." We have not been disappointed. Today was a great day for my nephew! Knowing that my nephew is like a few other kids, nervous to go to the brace doctor, I told my sister to take him to Dr. Chapman. I am posting a review because my sister called and said that they had a great experience! I'm not surprised as Dr. C was my orthodontist long ago. It's nice to know that you can still expect the usual; friendly, funny front office staff. Plus, Sharon is still there, and she is still as kind and helpful as she's always been. The best part though, was Dr. C himself. He wowed my nephew. My sister didn't get to tell me about his planned treatment as Dr. C explained it so thoroughly (that's hard to do when the patient is only 8!) that my nephew knew what was planned for him. Chapman Smiles has been working with my daughter's smile for the past year. She came into this with lots of fears and a difficult to work with gag reflex. Dr. Chapman and his staff have worked great with her explaining the process as they go and how long each little thing will take - it has helped her greatly. Now almost a year into treatments she is far more comfortable going in for adjustments on her orthodontry. A big thank you to his staff for listening to my concerns on her behalf as her mom since I new how nervous she was and working with my daughter accordingly! My dentist had been recommending braces for years due to my bite issues that were becoming worse (back teeth barely touched and an underbite, a disaster for chewing later in life). I finally decided to get a consultation in 2016. I was hesitant because I was a working professional and honestly did not feel like I had time for taking care of braces. Dr. Chapman and his staff were kind and honest with me regarding my orthodontic treatment (timeline, time devoted to dental care, costs, follow up appointments). Due to personal circumstances, I did not start with braces until 2017. The facility and equipment are always clean and neat. Everyone on staff is friendly, the office has fun activities for kids, and everything is explained clearly. Dr. Chapman is personable and always ready to say hi and chat. I am 24 years old and finished my 9 month Invisalign treatment today with Dr. Chapman and the help of his staff!! It was such an EASY experience and would recommend his work to anyone. The appointments were conveniently made to fit my hectic schedule (as I was finishing school and internship, planning a wedding and working part time) and I felt that they were quick and easy! I started seeing Dr. Chapman when I was about 6 years old. We went through retainers, appliances, surgeries, and was out of braces at 13. During this time my family had moved out of town and I tried other Orthodontist...none compared. Fortunately I had understanding parents willing to make the commute and I always came back to Dr. Chapman. At 28 my teeth had shifted enough (I never wore my retainers after having my braces off), my only thought was, "I hope Dr. Chapman is still here!" Sure enough, he was and he got me through my second round of braces (invisalign this time)! He is always super nice, has a smile on his face and genuinely happy to see his patients. I have 4 children all in different stages of Orthodonture and I trust Dr. Chapman with all of them. My first two have completed braces, my third is in the middle of the process and my 4th has yet to begin. Chapmansmiles has a warm friendly environment. The staff feels like family. They go beyond a typical office by making the experience fun with games, contests, and warm cookies. That's all great but the most important part is the result of those visits is exceptional. Braces are not just for kids! I am 64 and just had my braces removed after 21 months of a metal grin. The big hole where I had a bad tooth removed is gone, my bite is excellent, and my very crooked teeth are now beautiful and straight. Dr. Chapman and his staff make this process easy no matter what age the patient is. There are no surprises and every step is carefully explained. My 7 year old daughter and I visited Dr. Chapman. My daughter was tearful, worried about her upcoming braces. Dr. Chapman was very confrontational with her and made her even more afraid of what should be an exciting event in a childs life. Dr. Chapman made us feel as if we were wasting his time. He was rude to me and had no empathy for my daughter. We walked out. I would not recommend this orthodontist for any child! I went to go see Dr. Chapman as a transfer case. Due to my being a student,moving across country, for college I was in braces longer do to financial reasons. I was very much aware of the difficulties of dealing with a transfer case. At the same time if Dr. Chapman felt my case was too much for him he didn't express that at the consultation, in fact he seemed eager and acted like my case would be a piece of cake. If he would have been honest about his "concerns|inexperience" I could have found an orthodontist that was more experienced in transfer cases and dealing with extractions. After over a year in braces with him, my braces were taken off too soon. The day he took my braces off I had complained about the angle of my teeth and spacing and he brushed it off and said look at my(his) teeth and said find something else to worry about .After spending over $3000 for my teeth to get fixed that is not what one wants to here.This excuse that transfer cases are difficult, after the fact, is frustrating especially since there was a consultation before hand and no difficulties were expressed. It wasn't difficult to take my money but now that I am concerned and am out of over $3000 you want to discuss how hard of a case I was! To top this off typically patients are offered an extra retainer, a fee is given at a discounted rate I wasn't offered that. I guess it was just assumed that I could not pay? After having another orthodontist look at my teeth to see if I could fix the angle he explained that the braces were taken off because of a short root and decalcification. This is NOT a problem, the concern was valid, but Dr. Chapman NEVER expressed this, and that is the issue. I was also made aware that if a dental assistant is rushing sometimes things get missed. It wasn't until a year later after I complained AGAIN that the receptionist INSISTED that I came back to the office FILL out more INFORMATION , and TAKE PICTURES. When Chapman came in the room he told me I had too much time on my hands and was abrasive ,aggressive in his demeanor and had gotten in my face to the point where I was visibly upset and had to move back. He said I was playing the race card and accused me of wanting a freebie ( he and his office manager thought this was funny). As a black woman I guess my questioning the result of my teeth is the race card, yet assuming I couldn't afford the repair and accusing me of wanting a freebie and laughing with his office manager that a freebie was going to be my next question was acceptable? I am an Educated Black Woman who happens to be an Engineering Student the assumption of my inability to afford to fix my teeth and accusations that I have all this free time is BEYOND UNACCEPTABLE in 2016. Dr. Chapman was a phenomenal orthodontist he was always happy but unfortunately by questioning his work I was subject to disrespect and aggressive behavior. I feel that the only reason that it was insisted that I be brought to the office was to comfort his ego and for him to give me a talking to? Once i said what he didn't like he kicked me out of his office. I guess as a black woman in 2016 Trump has people thinking this behavior towards woman and minorities is acceptable, I do not think he would have treated me this way if I was anything other! He had no intention of looking at my case and discussing solutions, and when he demanded what i wanted I offered a resolution of potentially closing spaces with a retainer he laughed. He even accused me of calling him a bad dentist which was not true but also silly Dr. Chapman was an excellent orthodontist I decided to allow him to fix my teeth because he was not only was he highly regarded he was very buoyant and displayed a very propitious outlook on my case! I had bad teeth as a child and my teeth were a sensitive spot for me,so yes when my braces came off and I wasn't happy with the result I was concerned but unfortunately Dr. Chapman missed that and was more concerned about his ego than my teeth! To bring me into an office for the SOLE PURPOSE to demean me and get up in my face as a grown man to a young woman is horrific and disgusting! It is not what you say it how you say it, the concerns he had were valid but the fact that I expressed my concerns the day I got my braces taken off and 2 weeks later at a follow up and he didn't express any of the concerns regarding cavities and decalcification is the issue, it was only after going to see a dentist and orthodontist and complaining that he was honest and the fact that his dental assistants didn't express this to me when taking my braces off is a staff issue. The level of pure disrespect, aggressive; demeaning behavior was beyond unacceptable. Nevertheless, one bad encounter DOES NOT take away from Dr. Chapmans high regard and EXCELLENCE in his craft and career and I hope that he doesn't treat anyone else the way I was treated today.
