Hurrah for Baltzersen - and hurrah for their stripped back Scandinavian charm!…read more We were in Harrogate for the Tour de France and it was one of those days where we were seriously wondering if we were going to get a table anywhere or if it would be a quick sandwich on a bench somewhere. Adding a baby in a buggie further complicates the situation but luckily with us being "fair weather" cycling fans we decided to have a late lunch and managed to beat the crowds who'd all gone down and grabbed themselves a seat near the front! First off this is a super cool setting - clean, crisp, efficient but friendly - it's all service from the counter where you can get coffee and cakes, but you can go deeper into a menu offering sandwiches, snacks and platter boards. Our mixed board of meat and fish came with fresh bread and pickles and cost £8 - not bad to share between us. I was really impressed with them supporting the local 'bad seed brewery' and their Citra mashup beer was a lovely Saturday afternoon beer - definitely going in there as one to enjoy in the future again! We also grabbed cinnamon buns to go - £1.70 inside where you can sit in with it, £2 when bought outside to take way - I'm not sure how that works out... but there you go, who's me to argue with the economics of the cafe business... A great place that I'm going to check out next time in Harrogate!

Food shopping is just so much fun and it 's no different in Weeton's. This is farm shopping but in a plush surrounding. Quality assured here and that is a fact. If I say fact then it must be true. What I really love about this place is that it brings the best things about Yorkshire to one place. It's like a deli but on acid. They stock over 1000 different lines of Yorkshire's finest. I defy you to go in and not come out with a sticky toffee pudding or stunning ginger bread house. The bakery really is first class. Yet so is most of it. You'll find teas, wines, meat, vegetables, really smelly cheeses and stock cupboard essentials. The oils are out of this world too. You pay for it but some of the balsamic and dipping oils are just meant to be cracked open on those special occasions. How I can get excited about oil I don't know but in here anything is possible. Great staff and service too and a food shop that doesn't involve trolley-rage or z-list celebrities advertising. Great guns of Harrogate.

DO NOT RECOMMEND. I've come to this gourmet deli since last…read moresummer, and enjoyed many things I've tried. Its been a little while since I've come back but unfortunately I'm disappointed in what I found. I brought my girl friend to experience this neat little deli with a great story, but was so infuriated with the service that we left before ordering. When we stood before the ordering counter (with no one behind us) my girl friend was shushed mid sentence and told to sit down. We were visibly put off, but complied, and ultimately decided that the there are plenty of good sandwich shoppes that would love our business. When we got up to leave, the grumpy old behind the counter gave a smug grin and murmured, "alright then." REALLY?? HOW RUDE! We are trying to figure out why we were treated so poorly and the only conclusion we can ascertain is that we weren't wearing our sunday best, (people dress fairly well in Harrogate) only hoodies and jeans. Even so, this is not the sort of place I want to support, or recommend to anyone else. Try Weeton's Cafe instead!

Good points are that there is a very good choice of food at really affordable prices and delicious looking creamy desserts. Bad point is that food quality is sometimes poor. My loin of pork in mushroom sauce was small bits of fairly tough pork that appeared to be left over from a carvery and my friend's cheese cake was all cream and little taste.
