Farm basically ticked all the boxes for us (we basically tried to get into their Farm bistro upstairs but it was packed - an hour wait!) - so went back downstairs and sat in their deli shop, enjoying a fairly basic menu but was perfect for what we were after. Great produce, great environment, great prices - my ploughmans was off the hook for £7.95 while my wife enjoyed a really tasty homemade soup with tasty bread for less then a fiver. Seeing as it was an Easter Saturday, I did treat myself to a lunch time beer from Wild Beer (great choice of beer and wine) seeing as I was on my hols ;-) A really cool place to hit, I'm looking forward to going back in the near future!

You could be mistaken that it is just a shop, but it isn't, there is a small cafe downstairs and a larger bistro upstairs. Sadly there wasn't any space in the bistro, but we weren't too perturbed, grabbing the last table in the cafe we picked from the lunch menu. This is not extensive, but it's all local produced and cooked in front of you. I had the homemade cheese and onion quiche with spicy broccoli and sweet potato wedges. Whereas my partner had the ploughman's platter. This had locally sourced cheese, homemade pork pie (delicious!) and the usual ploughman's bits. We were seriously impressed with the quality of the food and also the quality of the service. The cafe also has an extensive shop, we ended up taking home some cake and wine for treats when we got back to Manchester later on that evening- check out the lemon polenta cake, it is divine! We'd go back in a heart beat and we definitely want to try the bistro.

More cheese Grommit and plenty of it. The Cheese Board is pretty much a celestial invention then. It stocks 200 types of speciality cheese, hampers and cheese wedding cakes; local, British and Continental cheese. I mean how good is that. Cheese tastic goodness and so much of it. You best get Daisy eating more cud, we're going to need the milk. Now I pride myself on knowing my fromage from the babybels but if you don't fear not. The people who work there all know their stuff and are really approachable. I wonder if there is such a position as a cheese guru and if so how can I apply. I left armed with the smelliest stilton ever. The more mould the better but only on my cheese not in general everyday life. It would also be rude not to try a nice slab of Wensleydale too. Remember to try keeping it local folks. I may stop mid sentence because this is me in my element. Cheese arama and total indulgence. What a winner.

But this is quickly demolished by the fact that the shop is very cramped to the point where i nearly fell over a basket. The staff ask you what you want straight away too, which i don't like, as i like to take my time and have a good look through everything and not feel harrassed. I love cheese, but i find it rather expensive to be honest for what you get as well - i got some sheeps milk wenslydale and it came to about £7 for my average sized hunk. It was nice, but for £7 i expect it to blow my socks off which it didn't. I've paid less for other, rarer cheeses at newer deli's in Harrogate - where i've been allowed to taste them first before buying as well - and been blown away by what i got. Its an ok shop, but i'm afraid that there are better contenders out there now to be honest.

Food shopping is just so much fun and it 's no different in Weeton's. This is farm shopping but in a plush surrounding. Quality assured here and that is a fact. If I say fact then it must be true. What I really love about this place is that it brings the best things about Yorkshire to one place. It's like a deli but on acid. They stock over 1000 different lines of Yorkshire's finest. I defy you to go in and not come out with a sticky toffee pudding or stunning ginger bread house. The bakery really is first class. Yet so is most of it. You'll find teas, wines, meat, vegetables, really smelly cheeses and stock cupboard essentials. The oils are out of this world too. You pay for it but some of the balsamic and dipping oils are just meant to be cracked open on those special occasions. How I can get excited about oil I don't know but in here anything is possible. Great staff and service too and a food shop that doesn't involve trolley-rage or z-list celebrities advertising. Great guns of Harrogate.

Its been a little while since I've come back but unfortunately I'm disappointed in what I found. I brought my girl friend to experience this neat little deli with a great story, but was so infuriated with the service that we left before ordering. When we stood before the ordering counter (with no one behind us) my girl friend was shushed mid sentence and told to sit down. We were visibly put off, but complied, and ultimately decided that the there are plenty of good sandwich shoppes that would love our business. When we got up to leave, the grumpy old behind the counter gave a smug grin and murmured, "alright then." REALLY?? HOW RUDE! We are trying to figure out why we were treated so poorly and the only conclusion we can ascertain is that we weren't wearing our sunday best, (people dress fairly well in Harrogate) only hoodies and jeans. Even so, this is not the sort of place I want to support, or recommend to anyone else. Try Weeton's Cafe instead!

Good points are that there is a very good choice of food at really affordable prices and delicious looking creamy desserts. Bad point is that food quality is sometimes poor. It's nice, kind of reminiscent of the Wheeton's in town (Harrogate). I really enjoy the strong theme of locally sourced high quality food that permeates this place. The employees seem happy which often results in better service, which was the case with my visit today. I like the large open feel of this place combined with the big open windows and the outside tables with umbrellas. The amount of light this place invites gives the cafe section a cheery feel to it. Fee wifi is a plus for yelping of course. I had a Sunday roast and it was a very generous portion. The food was well presented, and wait time was minimal. It was good food, but nothing extraordinary in my experience. But the atmosphere of the place more than compensates to make an overall enjoyable experience and a place I'm likely to revisit soon!

An excellent selection of fruit and veg - it it's in season Fodder will find it. Asparagus (May/June) comes from a farm just over a mile away. The same can be said for strawberries. Meat is from local farms and not only is the selection and quality very good, you can see the butchers in the back rooms cutting the meat up. Chuck in a great cheese counter, lots of local beer, cured meats, chocolates, sweets and puddings... It's a fine establishment. Doing a full weekly shop might not be possible but for a few choice bits and pieces Fodder is a lovely place to visit. Oh, and knowledgeable staff who aren't afraid to smile - that's always going set a place ahead of the competition!
