This place has the potential to be a charming little cafe. It's in a beautiful, if slightly busy, location overlooking Acomb Green on the outside of York.
The food is quite traditional but there is something for everyone here.
The main issue with Tea on the Green is it's atmosphere. The staff are efficient enough but, at times, the cafe felt like a church service. The slightly serious-looking members of staff seemed most afraid of approaching their customers. There was no music or other ambience. This percolated to the other guests - there were two couples in the small room of six tables - all of whom were talking in hushed tones. Again, I thought I might have stumbled into a sermon rather than eat a sandwich.
Overall, I would like to commend the cafe. Unfortunately, there is a disappointing atmosphere - despite the earnestness of the staff. read more
