I have lived at Chaparral Winds Independent Living for ten years, I saw many communities before I chose Chaparral Winds Independent Living. In my time here things have become even better! New appliances in all units, fresh paint and furniture in common areas. The staff is GREAT! Cathy, Assistant Director, knows everybody personally , handles any problems and keeps things running smoothly. Keveline, Activities Director organizes a myriad of different things to do or experience. games, exercise, crafts and trips to art show, theater and museums and different restaurants. Like an exclusive cruise where you choose your activity! Ashley, Chef, provides two different entrees every day. If you don't fancy either one there are plenty of other options, Great meals in a pleasant dining room with good service. I think Chaparral Winds Independent Living Is exceptional with the relationship between staff and residents. Kathy, senior receptionist, Toni, and Danielle and others split a 24 hours day. There is ALWAYS an answer when you call. Arthur, Steve and Nacho - Maintenance - also have someone on call 24 hours for emergencies. NO, I am not being paid for this review! On May 3rd, 2021, our Dad who has dementia moved into Chaparral Winds Memory Care. Their salesperson gave a great pitch. Dad was interviewed by both the nurse and the salesperson. They said they would be able to handle his care. They were given full detail of Dad's mental state and his nighttime behavior. By May 6th, he had bruises on his head. On May 7th we had a meeting with the Executive Director because someone had reported that Dad had "struck" his personal caregiver. We contacted the caregiver and she said this did not happen. In the meeting, the Director accused Dad of hitting their caregiver, but would not address the bruises, and when we asked for an incident report for either event, none was forthcoming. When you try to speak, she cuts you off. We had never met the Director before that day. We did, however, have meetings with the salesperson, the nurse and our Dad. By May 20th, we got a notice to leave within 24 hours. What is upsetting to us is the lack of compassion and understanding by the Director. Nothing was substantiated, including how he got the bruises on his head. We feel the capabilities of this facility were misrepresented to us. We feel we were misled, and it was unbelievably stressful trying to find another facility and moving our 93 year old Dad with so little notice. They did not even take into consideration how this would impact his overall well-being. I would NOT recommend this facility. I would urge anybody who has any issue with a care facility to inform the Arizona Department of Health Services. They will get back to you and they will take action. We have to advocate for our seniors. These facilities charge a lot of money and they should be held accountable. Some are first-rate. This one is not. read more

Nice place a little to expensive for the area and compared to the other places. But make sure you get the one month free. All facilities usually give a referral fee to whomever brings someone in rather than they pay a fee make sure you get one or teo months free for your loved one. read more

Chaparral Winds Retirement Community.... Like living on a cruise ship. If you are trying to decide whether to sell your home and move into a Retirement Community, look no further than Chaparral Winds and here's why... I am 74yr old and LOVE living here. To tell you why, I will give you an analogy.... My husband passed away and living alone whether in a house, or an apartment wasn't cutting it. I was still "alone" in my home, eating alone and having to force myself to do things outside of my home. Plus, I was tired of home ownership maintenance. So, I moved into Chaparral Winds Retirement Community in Surprise, AZ. They are also a "Pet Friendly" Community. This was the "best thing" I could have done. Now to give you the analogy... My husband and I cruised a lot and loved it. Living in Chaparral Winds Retirement Community is like being on a permanent cruise, except you are docked on land, no water under you and you don't get seasick. Look at it this way... compared to a cruise... You can take the van to do things in the city, or go on your own...just like on a cruise. You have your own stateroom/apartment, you do have to make your own bed and do your own laundry, but you can pay extra for someone else to do it, if your so choose... but you do get housekeeping, will clean your apartment or casita twice a month. You get a schedule of events in your personal mailbox weekly, not daily on your bed. Lots of activities and they bring in entertainment. If you have a problem in your apartment...ex: dishwasher stops working... call the front desk (Purser if on a cruise) and they will notify maintenance to fix the issue. No cost to you... just like on a cruise. You step outside in the hallway and you are sure to find happy and friendly residents, just like on a cruise ship. You can just walk down the hall and take part in activities, use the exercise room and/or enjoy the entertainment. Now about the food...let's face it, we all want to know how good the food is, just like on a cruise. All you do is fill out your menu... with lots of choices, turn it in once a week and then head to the dining room and enjoy the fantastic food or you can have it delivered to your room... sound like a cruise again? Our current chef worked for 5 yrs. on a cruise ship, plus in the UK for 14 yr. ... so how can you beat that for chef experience. The food is awesome, as are the desserts. They try to keep the entrees and desserts on the menus changing so we always look forward to great meals. If at some point you need Assisted Living or Memory Care... they have that too... AND...same great food! Again, if you are considering an easier life, with friends, great food, activities, entertainment, exercise classes, etc. Look no further... Come check out Chaparral Winds. This is probably one of the most unprofessional places I have ever worked . Besides the unprofessional acts of many people who worked their & being overworked I thought the job was okay . Next thing you know I'm fired for reasons that kept changing when I would ask . My time there was spent with nothing but hard work & everyday I would complete all my tasks & sit waiting for more dishes to come or for the trash to get full enough to take it out etc etc & apparently that was a problem . I would literally ask around "Is there anything else I need to do ?" Etc and if they told me I had to do it I would but obviously if there's literally no work for me what am I supposed to do besides wait for more work meaning dishes etc . Not only that but I was also told that my schedule wasn't good enough for them when they would change it to the hours they wanted every week without hearing a single complaint for me. Keep in mind I'm young so in the state of AZ if your a certain age you can only work 3hrs weekdays and however long on weekends. This never crossed their minds I ended up working 6 or more hrs on a weekday which keep in mind I still was doing without complaints . Then I hear another reason of why I was fired which was others were having complaints of me not being a team player when I literally did everything they needed me to do with whoever they wanted me to do it with. Then, get ready for this they came at me with ANOTHER reason of why I was fired so now we're on the 4th different reason , & they said that I took too long breaks. So can someone explain to me how my other dishwashers who worked with me would take 3, 30 minute breaks each day & when I'm 10 mins over my break time that adds to me getting fired ? Keep in mind everyone is only supposed to have 1 30 minute break each day & I would be left doing the dishwashing , drying , and putting dishes up each time they went to take their breaks. Not only did this company not try to resolve the problem with me they just kept adding reasons on to why I was fired when any other employee would be doing worse without any discipline going towards them . To also keep things clear I had requested off 1 time because of an injury with chemicals burning my hands because when being trained to use them by this company they never gave any regard of you should wear gloves or something like that . Even though my hands hurt extremely I only took 1 day off and went back to work . Then a few days later the pain got worse & I tried requesting off & that's when I get the phone call saying I'm fired . My experience here has shown me this company does not care about anyone they just care about the $ (the numbers, hours etc) and I promise you your time will be wasted here . Very few employees here have actual emotion & will actually have a conversation with you & I just would like to make it clear on how terrible this place is. Go read any other persons review as well most of them are bad even the care they do there has been complained about . If you want to work somewhere where the company actually cares about their employees & cares about the work you do for them don't work here . Only thing good I got from this job was experience with the industrial dishwashing machine & a few laughs with the few co workers who were chill . Absolutely ridiculous how things were handled here. Also this place needs to be checked with DOH (department of health) or FSA because of how dirty it is . You go to the bathroom the walls are falling apart , mold all over, toilet water coming out of the side of toilet and handle, holes in the wall, mold around the kitchen , floors were not clean no matter how many times it was swept and mopped over & even the outside area by the back of the building was disgusting . Felt gross every day coming home after working here . Hopefully this company decides to change how they treat their employees & their building because this should not be acceptable whatsoever . The funny thing about all of this is it was never a problem till they decided to waste my time . Not that hard to resolve problems instead of going straight to not trying to resolve anything with unjustified reasons & none of this makes it okay for them to get mad at employees for injuries or any other minor occurrence . read more

It's such a hard decision when it's time to place a loved one in a senior community. From trusting who's caring for them, to the faculty having the facilities and resource to do so in a loving manner. From the moment you enter, you are greeted by a 24 hour receptionist staff with a smile on their face. Stephanie, the marketing director, who finds the perfect unit for you. Who cares and works so hard on keeping it a nice community. She also has the best hugs. They never have a dull moment. With the absolutely, wonderful activity director. Jill involves them in what they would like to do. Always taking in suggestions. Then who could go hungry with the lovely continental type breakfast they have. To the amazing dining room chef and staff. Really great and plenty to eat. Best decision my mom and I made for her about 5 years ago. She loves her apartment and is never not busy doing something. Then to make it even better, they come and clean her place sparkling. So, when I come to visit, I'm not having to do her cleaning.
