After dining at the Leeds branch we decided to give their Manchester restaurant a go on friday night!! We had the sharing satay fondue to start, then I had lamb massaman and Max took the duo of fish! All the food was amazing, flavours were beautiful! However I felt some things were too expensive... the lamb cost £10.95 plus about £2.95 on top for rice... Fair enough.... But the fish dish was £18.95 plus the extra for rice, in my opinion it should have been included in the price! I also felt the sharing satay fondue was a bit steep at £10.95 per person sharing! Overall the food here is dam tasty, the service was flawless (If not actually a bit too fast) and the atmosphere was great, however i'll probably only treat myself to it during their pre-theatre menu which has lots of choice and does 2 courses for £13.95 or go full blown a la carte on a special ocassion!! read more

WOW WOW WOW...second time I have been here and second time I have been blown away. This restaurant has to be the most visually stunning eatery ever. The food is to die for. For starters I would recommend the Asian Platter to share. Sticky pork, prawns and satay all presented beautifully. I opted for the lamb Massaman curry and my other half ordered the pork belly with thai basil. Both dishes were outstanding and fresh. You could taste every single ingredient. The staff are amazing and attentive. We ordered two Sunshine cocktails...the bar man came over and instructed both of us how to drink them. Delish. It is reasonably priced...but to be honest I wouldn't care how much it cost...the quality and surroundings is well worth the price tag. If you are in Manchester would advise you to give this place a go. Can't wait to get home and try the one in Glasgow. read more

Oozing sophistication, Chaophraya is a great night out whether you're having a five course meal or soaking up the decadence at the bar. The food is fresh, authentic and delicious. The menu covers several regions of Thailand and offers everything from the popular Pad Thai or green curry to more acquired dishes such as spicy papaya salad and Thai-style steaks. There is also a great number of vegetarian dishes on offer and a great selection of mouth watering starters and sides. The bar is well stocked and offers a great place to relax for a quiet (if pricey) drink as a jumping off point for a night out in the city centre. Of interest is the Chaophraya cookery school, team building events and tuktuk hire (which can be arranged to pick you up from your home and drop you off at the restaurant). Highly recommended for a special occasion or a quiet drink, Chaophraya might be the best Thai in town. read more

People love or hate this place! Personally think it is great, food is a little more sophisticated than some of the other Thai eateries in Manchester and the decor matches. Great lunch menu with a lovely sharing platter for starters which I highly recommend. Good atmosphere and not too expensive in the evening, always busy so book well in advance. We discovered Chaophyraya last night, when I did a quick search for where to eat after our show at the Royal Exchange. It has great reviews and that is for a reason: it is a truly wonderful restaurant. Unfortunately we weren't quite in the best mood to enjoy the atmosphere and ambiance, being tired and over-hungry, but the food was delightful and was served surprisingly quickly. I had the Beef Redang curry with sticky rice, which was divine, and my other half had the Thai Green Curry which also went down very well indeed. It's a large place and was particularly loud with lots of suits doing after work drinking and birthday parties, but it's great atmosphere for a special occasion or dinner date with foodie friends. And they give out 'membership' cards for 20% off the next visit... we'll definitely be going back! read more

Coming from south-east asia, I know my Thai food. Authentic Thai food. And it's sad to say (and Chaophraya has always been one of my favourites), that it has renovated and not for the better. The interior design, no doubt, looks better but i struggle to find the Thai influence other than some motifs/design here and there, and some furniture. It used to have a far more Thai feel to it. Needless to say, same goes with the food. It's still good, but...i'm not sure if scallop and black pudding salad really is necessary. And the argument can't even be 'to include a dish with a local influence', as we're NOT in scotland. It's disappointing if you're going for the Thai experience. But if you're just looking for some 'quite good' Thai food and in a 'relatively classy' atmosphere, then Chaophraya will do just that. read more

It is more expensive that my favourite Thai restaurant back in Sydney, but definitely has the sane high quality Massaman. Asian Tasting platter is ridiculously overpriced, but accompanying a Lamb Massaman with some Coconut Rice will not lead you astray! read more

A wonderful new Manchester restaurant - won best newcomer in the 2007 food & drink awards. It is the second of its kind, with the first in Leeds, but this is no chain restaurant. You probably won't get service this good anywhere else in Manchester - they really do wait on you hand and foot. The food is delicious, with a pretty exciting menu - very welcome as Manchester has really lacked Thai restaurants before now. The decor is fantastic, and you can choose to have good quality bar food, or sit in a traditional Thai style on the floor or at a normal table. All round a great dining experience. read more

Chaophraya is situated near Cross street Manchester and is a Thai Resturant A party of 3 people dined here and we opted for one of the set menus. Various starters all of a very good quality followed by a very spicy soup. Main dishes were duck, sea bass, pork and chicken. Generous portions of each, too much food for our party, but all were of an excellent standard. Decor is really nice and modern and the staff really can not enough for you. Was very excited about visiting this place but I left slightly disappointed. It is expensive but I've certainly had better food elsewhere in Manchester. The seafood in my soup was obviously frozen rather than fresh. Decor is lovely and service was fine but if you like Thai food, you should try Phetpailin in China Town for better value and better food! read more

Constantly felt that this restaurant almost hit the spot but just failed. The Appetiser Platter for 2 (£10pp) was quite good and I expected a great meal looking around at others food. The food looks great, the Thai Green Curry has a deep green colour, on first taste I thought it was amazing. However as I kept eating the flavour was very one-note, a good one-note, but unfortunbattely it didn't develop. There was no floral, lemon-grass aftertones you normally expect with a Thai Curry. As such it got boring to eat very quickly and felt stodgy and store-bought of which it clearly wasn't. Overall dissapointing, more for the fact with a few changes this food would be amazing. read more

Chaophraya is a fantastic Thai restaraunt selling the best quality thai food in Manchester. The service is great and they have an open restaraunt so you can see the chefs cooking the food. The decor is very Thai with statues and sculptures. Highly recommended. read more

I went there when they first started and would rate it 5/5 back then. I have been back a few times and shocked at how much it has changed. Almost double food prices, overcrowded, noisy poor customer service. Although the food it still great. You are rushed when booking a table, and it is not personable or relaxing. To those of you who've been to Thailand - fried your lilly white Manchester skin, cried curry induced tears of joy/agony, languished on paradise beaches and watched the days go by from a floor cushion in a dozen beach bars serving nutella pancakes and Lipton tea for the price of a Freddo - the world that greets you on the other side of Chaophraya's door might just cause you to suffer a full flashback, drop to your knees and weep sentimental tears of travel-mourning grief. For those of you who haven't been to Thailand yet, firstly - go. But in the mean time, you'll find an admirable taster of the joys awaiting you therein at this beautiful restaurant. Let's start with the look. Check out the photos included with this review to appreciate just how lovely your surroundings will be (not that you'll notice anything except your plate once the food arrives). With elaborate fountains, mellow lighting, fresh flowers and even those lovely authentic pyramid cushions the Thai's do so well in their beach-side bars, you'll dine in unique (and kushty) surroundings. My only criticism would be that the choice of music (anything from 90s pop to Enya) can be a little disconcerting, reminding me more of a dingy chain pub than a jolly pretty Thai restaurant. Now, let's address the two most important things in life: a) food and b) money. If you're thinking all this opulent splendour spells wallet-ary disaster fear not - I am by no stretch a wealthy girl. Last week I got by on £7.50 and highly questionable fridge leftovers, so I'm not going to be telling you how delicious the top-notch menu feature was, because I'd have to save a good while just to buy it. That's not to say the meal in question wouldn't be well worth the money however, given that my stunning Moo Ping Sauce Panang (at a ludicrously altruistic £6.95) was nigh on spectacular. Gorgeously presented, this ample dish zapped me straight back to Kho Samui via culinary bliss - I had to resist the urge to grab the nearest waitress by her immaculate uniform and kiss her feet in gratitude. Across the table a friend was similarly struck dumb by her Massaman Gai Kanom Pang at £6.50 - this is really good food people, and you won't even have to feel guilty about it. Your cheapest wine is £13 a bottle; pretty standard for the city centre. Unfortunately when the designers of the main restaurant swept beauty through the building, they apparently saw fit to call it a day at the toilets. Completely mis-matched with the rest of the restuarant, upon entrance I felt I may have accidentally wandered through a wormhole and emerged into the toilet block of my high school (scary on a number of levels). There are attempted touches here and there, but all in all this is the lowpoint of the establishment. Which, given that they're toilets, isn't so much of a dealbreaker in my book. As an interesting aside, Chaophraya run Thai cooking courses for £60, which would be a fun day for a birthday or even as a company away-day team-building kind of affair. You know the ones. I would give this gem of a city-centre restaurant a 9 out of 10 - sunny staff, immaculate surroundings, heavenly food beautifully presented at reasonable prices...and then there's those pyramid cushions, for goodness sake. read more

Had a fantastic evening here for an anniversary meal with my wife. The decor is gorgeous and from the moment we stepped in the door on a rainy Manchester Friday the service was amazing. We were seated at a low table with a foot well which was a nice alternative and added to the feel of the place. The food was presented well and tasty. I had the veg tempura starter and my wife had Thai fishcakes both were very good. For the main I had tofu pad thai and my only complaint was that the portion was too large. My wife had sweet and sour chicken which she says was lovely and she would eat it now if we had some. The main feeling from the evening is that the attentiveness of the staff and the ambience go a long way to enhancing the experience and while the food was well cooked and presented it fell a little short of outstanding. read more

fantastic food. one of the best places to go for oriental food. they do an afternoon menu which has a tpas style section so you can order a mixture of things, these are served in the ground floor restraunt which also has some in floor seating if you fancy getting in a thai mood. there is also a restraunt upstairs which is used in the evening. the food is a little more expensive but well worth it. we went last christmas for a set menu £ 25 per head but the food was fabulous as was the service. well recommened to everyone read more

After all the talk about Chaophraya, I was really looking forward to eating there. After fretting about what to order, we decided to get a Banquet to share between three of us. The starters were good, and arrived quickly but the mains were a little disappointing, and were greasy for some of the dishes. The Green Curry was good, but was a little too rich for my own tastes. The Pad Thai was nice, but that was very greasy, which is not very pleasant. The staff seemed to force the drinks on us a little, but after the amount of food we got for £20 each, we couldn't really stomach it! Chaophraya offers fantastic service and an extensive menu. It's a favourite among the business types (due to its location), has a lovely ambience with clever lighting and (if you ask for it) cul de sacs which offer some privacy (again suitable for the business types as well as couples). The biggest selling point is of course the amazing food on offer, usually served in ample amounts (i.e. I usually order and cannot finish it all)! I am a particular fan of spicy dishes and Chaophraya certainly knows how to make them! I would highly recommend anyone to give this restaurant a try read more
