There really isn't much in the way of good Chinese Food in Bend. As pretty much everyone else has pointed out the portions here are just huge. One entree could easily feed 3 people. It's Americanized Chinese food. I would have loved to give this 5 stars but the reality is that you'll get an enormous amount of OK food, good service and a clean restaurant. It is what it is. If you just have to get Chinese food this will work for you. If you want really good Chinese food you'll need to head south about 8 hours to San Francisco. read more

Got take out last night. The portions were huge and steaming hot! The pork fried rice had minimal veggies, moderate amount of pork and lots of egg. Good portion of sliced BBQ pork on top. The sweet and sour chicken came with the sauce separate which I prefer! The breading wasn't too thick. The chow mein was regular but very fresh. The beef and Broccoli was good but packaged with all the broccoli on the bottom and all the beef on top. The General Tso's chicken was the biggest disappointment because it was sweet and not spicy at all! Overall this place was a winner! $48 for 5 items with humongous serving sizes! Chan's is by far one of the best Chinese restaurants in Bend. Hands down. My personal favorites are the Ginger Cilantro Chicken and Shrimp and the Chicken Pineapple Fried rice. (I'm a snob and ALWAYS ask for white meat.) It's a $1.50 extra by the way. But so worth it. Doesn't hurt that the portions are large enough to feed a small country. read more

One night in Bend. Why not have Chineese? I am so glad we gave Chan's a try. The shrimp, scallop and vegetable dish was fresh and expertly cooked. The shrimp were large and the bay scallops were moist and juicy. Perfect! We ordered the kung pao beef. Nice to see the veggies were different than those in the seafood dish. We had lunch here today. My husband had black pepper pork lunch combo. I had clay pot noodles with chicken. We shared pot stickers. Both lunches came with either sweet & sour or egg flower soup. We had egg flower. From the frosted glass of ice tea that we ordered to the soup, both lunches and the pot stickers, this was some of the best chinese food that we've had anywhere. This restaurant is a keeper. Also, our waiter, How was wonderful. He was so nice and attentive without being intrusive. If I could give more stars, I'd do it! read more

I just wanted to write a review of this establishment, my husband, mother and father in law and I ate there September 2011 and I think it has to be the best chinese/ oriental food I've ever eaten out at a restaurant. Service too, was also amazing. We had a fun. quick witted waitress who we loved. This is a great American style Chinese restaurant. They have all the traditional favorites you would expect. I love the egg flower soup and Mother's chicken for lunch. The Moo Shue Pork is the best around , you will need extra pancakes. The service is fast and everyone is very kind. read more

We got scared away from Double Happiness (our old standby) by the haters on Yelp, but I'm not sure Chan's is a do over for us. The takeout service was weird. When I called in our order, they took down my name and phone number, but when my husband arrived they didn't have any names on the takeout orders. He ended up with the right thing eventually, but had to text me to find out the number I'd used on the order. The food: Kung Pao Beef - the beef was in strips, which was weird, and although it was very nicely tender it tasted way too much like Sysco beef for me to be able to stomach much of it. Veggie Chow Fun - totally bland. The noodles are fat fresh rice noodles, which I love, but there was no discernible sauce! Just a clear corn starch pudding over the veggies. Gross. Black Bean Tofu and Green Beans - the best of what we got, but still not a stand out. Also, there was a hair in it. I'm not one to make a fuss about hairs in food - I know accidents happen. But it seems to happen with some regularity at Chan's (if the reviews are to be believed). If someone else's DNA in your food skeeves you out, be warned. Overall, a total meh for us. We'll probably risk Double Happiness next time we are in the mood for Chinese takeout. read more

Quantity over quality. A SHITLOAD of food for less than $6. I ordered sesame chicken and got soup, a crispy spring roll, rice and practically a platter of chicken. It's cheap food but passable and you'll be full and have more to bring home. Service was fine. read more

Second chance did not succeed. The only thing good was the waitress. Super sweet and good. Food was awful. The sweet and sour chicken was like they put a monkey in the blender and served it. Walked away with a family of four paying 80 bucks and all of us had a gut ache. Go down a bit further to red dragon and you will be much more pleased. Fortune cookies get 5 stars read more

My husband and I had really good food here last weekend. I had the combo #1. We both loved it. Note to everyone--the portions are huge!! A combo can easily feed 2-3 adults. We basically took 2 full meals home and we were stuffed. Why only 4 stars then, right?! The service was friendly but they were too busy and my husband went the whole dinner without water because she never came back :( Also, both of our tea cups were broken on the side and bottom and leaking everywhere. Again, no one to help us, clean up the mess or get us new tea cups. But the food was great and we will be back. The restaurant looked very clean and orderly too. read more

Ordered takeout- an order over $50.00, but when you ask for hot mustard you would have thought you'd asked for gold, only would give one with 4 dishes ordered and was put out asking for that one . Take out tonight 10/19 was horrible. Sweet and sour pork was just cold pieces of fried pork. No peppers,onions or pineapple as advertised. Pot stickers were moist dough balls. I've been going to Chan's for years, and their food has always been great. Not so last night. I ordered Yu Xiang Pork, which is always spicy-hot. This was as bland as it could possibly be. My husband had a shrimp noodle stir-fry - the noodles were definitely NOT STIR-fried, who knows what they were! Appallingly mediocre. I've never liked this place but then I have limited choices since I don't eat red meat or pork. My Husband has been a fan in the past, but tonight we called it fini after tasteless mushu vegetables consisting of primarily cabbage (and not nearly enough hoisin sauce and pancakes for the amount of mushu), green beans in bland black bean sauce, and creepy eel-like (mushy) chicken & green beans in more bland black bean sauce. I don't know why we continue to waste our money here--sheer longing for some tasty ethnic food I guess, and seriously poor memories. Chans excels at quantity over quality, so if you can manage to finish one plate of bleck you won't be comforted to know you will have many meals of lame, unappealing leftovers ahead. Save your Chinese food longings for the big city and your money for Bend's other decent eateries. Chans isn't one of them. A big disappointment. read more
