This is a great place to picnic, do outdoor activities and walk your dog. On this side of the park, you'll find 6 baseball diamonds, a 15-court tennis center, 2 basketball courts, a skateboard park, a disc golf course, soccer fields, a golf course, a community center and a newly renovated duck pond. I've been waiting years for the duck pond to be complete and I like what they've done. You can finally walk all around it and it is so peaceful. The area is teeming with ducks, geese, seagulls, coots, and other birds. There are even turtles in the pond.

This park doesn't have any play grounds but does have lots of trees, a nice walk way, dog poop cans, and is always groomed. Most people that are here on a daily basis walk their animals, have yoga circles, climb trees, play catch or just lay in the grass under the tree. There have been sightings of coyotes at night that attack little animals but they usually won't go after people. I am here a couple times a week as its right across from my home, and we walk our cat lol. We get a lot of people stopping and staring but it's still fun. Everyone is really friendly and the park is always clean.

The park has a playground, pickle ball court with friendly players who are always look for people to play, and a basketball court. Walk through the field and follow the dirt path until you see a set of steep stairs to the top. Check out the views of CSULB and then head north on Panorama Dr. The end of this street will lead you to the Signal Hill trail that takes you to Hill Top Park. The Signal Hill trail has great views of the Long Beach Airport. Once you're at Hill Top Park, on a clear day you'll have beautiful views of downtown Long Beach, the port, and the Queen Mary. A great location to have lunch. After a break, cross the street and take Skyline Trail to Ridge Trail. Ridge Trail will end on 21st Street where you'll go east and then make a left on Stanley and a right on Hill St. You're basically going to circle back to youre starting point. Some parts of the last two trails will have you going through a residential area. The trails are public. Definitely a walk worth checking out!

For the past four years, I've driven by Somerset Park without giving it more than a glance. It's…read moreon the way to my Walmart, restaurants, and Long Beach Exchange for me. However, since I've discovered pickleball, I've visited a few times now. It turns out to be a great park! I love seeing all the dog-walkers with various pups strolling around this small park. There is a playground, and kids are nearly always playing on it. Don't let this deter you, though, because it's typically fewer than five kids! There are basketball courts behind the tennis/pickleball courts, and I've always seen only one half-court game going at a time. I'd like to bring my soccer ball out here for a day to just kick the ball around, though I did not see any goals up. I don't play tennis, so I've only used the courts for pickleball on Wednesdays or Thursday. They're great! You can fit four pickleball courts on a single tennis court, and the community here is generally welcoming. I've mostly met kind people who have taken it easy on a novice player like myself. The open-play system here is mix and match, and I've found it much easier to play here without knowing anyone. Fun times! This is a small park with street parking available. It is bordered by three small streets and one busy street (Carson). Otherwise, Somerset is a great, quaint park. Come check it out!

I didn't use any of the facilities so I can't speak to any of that. Someone said the bathrooms are gross so I would probably steer clear. I rarely ever use public bathrooms anyway, so no big deal for me.

Long Beach has many parks, even parkways and random patches of grass downtown the City designates…read moreas a "park". Hands down, Stearns Champion is one of my favorite parks in this city. Not only because it has a recreation center, but also because its one of the parks the city maintains fairly well. My other favs in the city are El Dorado East, Wardlow Park, Whaley Park, and Los Cerritos. I'm usually at this park at least several times a week, and enjoy seeing people getting out and being active. PROS: - Clustered together are the basketball courts, baseball field, recreation center, and the restrooms. This makes it ideal to keep an eye on children who may wander off and play in different areas. - Nicely separated cement picnic tables. These are scattered throughout the park, with ample room for parties of various sizes. No reservations, and it's first come, first serve. Seen this past Memorial Day got people up and out bright and early to post up and claim a spot. - Flat grassy open space in about three large areas of the park. People will usually set up for volleyball, soccer, flag football, practice area, etc.. - Parking is abundant. Steans Park has two parking lots, but there's also a lot of street parking. - Jacaranda trees! I love these trees with the purple sappy flowers, as long as I'm not subjected to park my car under it. Jacarandas line the 23rd Street side of the park. Beautiful when they are in bloom and flowers fall with the wind. CONS: - Lots of dog owners and their fur babies come through here. Beware that not all dog owners are responsible pet owners who pick up after their pooch. Some of these nasty @ss people leave turds on the grass. Hence, why I don't walk on the grass here. - As an addendum to the above point, also beware that not all dog owners have their dogs on a leash in the park, even though City ordinance does demand it. - Muddy mess. Sometimes this park gets overwatered and the grassy area is super muddy. Easy to slip and fall in the mud or even get your shoe caught up in it. - Trash receptacles are lacking in the south side of the park. There used to be at least one on the Stearns St. side, but since it's been gone, some half-brained pet owner has been tossing bagged poop at the base of the trees.

Nice tree spacing so shade is not problem and there is plenty of room for kids and dogs to run around. If you are a pickleball player and have some game, give it a try these guys play hard. This park was pretty quiet and would only see less than a handful people around. This is a great place to teach your dogs tricks or let him go unleash and run around and play catch or something. You can park in the residential area, which is always plentiful. There are some shady trees and the grass is nicely maintained. Some people may complain and say this park is too small and dinky, but I guess it just depends what you want to do here. For us, walking our dog and having a different change of scenery is just perfect us 3. There really isn't much here, just a few benches and a cement road for people to ride their bikes or roller blade right on through, but that's probably why it's so deserted.
