(always have your own wipes In hand) It's such a wonderful place for picnics with a stunning view of the city, and there are many beautiful trails to explore. As I drive into work sometimes I listen to the radio. On this day I was listening to the radio and I heard the hosts engage in dialogue over a viral video that centered around a young lady who got ghosted before a first date. In the video she laments having made homemade Orchata, tacos and Mexican corn bread (which I am sure had Jalapenos) for a guy that did not show up, nor did he let her know that he was not coming. Was she love bombing or being extra? Was she being intentional and kind? I cannot answer these two questions but thanks to a recent visit to Hilltop Park I can say that effort from a girl to a guy is a love note in free flow. The first time I went to the park, I walked for steps and clipped pictures and witnessed rest. The second time I went I took a beach towel and a pal, and we sat on grass under a tall tree's shade to look at the view while we minded our own self-care. And then it happened, a young lady came in with a purple Trader Joe's bag. We will call the girl Brianna and her gentlemen friend Tyler. Brianna began to unpack her bag. She had a cloth. Tyler helped her straighten it. They used the bag and different items from within, to hold the corners, to pin the blanket so the winds would not mess its near perfect shape and sprawl. And then he walked away to wash his hands. Brianna was left alone. She unpacked her contents. She had a small table with legs. She had a huge pillow. I commented to my pal that next time we could at least bring some food or snacks. I am not sure I would bring all that stuff to make a picnic into a dining experience for the park but I would buy a basket pre-made. But Brianna brought everything to make the setting a message of care. She even brought some string lights to adorn an edge of the blanket. I commented to her that she made me feel jealous because of the effort of her spread. I told her that when she was ready I could take pictures of her and her date. When Taylor returned, her first comment to him was, "you came early." Her vision was not yet complete, and, in a way, he stepped into the surprise party before all the streamers were not hung up nor all balloons filled with the air of her lungs. He helpe set up the picnic. As she unpacked the watermelon from a container she said, "it is sweet, I tasted it as I cut." She took out those chocolates wrapped in gold foil. They are hard to spell and say, but they are so common that you know which I mean. She then informed Tyler that she brought chips for the hummus as I saw her unwrap pita bread from foil. It was clear, she had curated a selection of snacks to make a moment in the park into a picnic that was really a quiet way of saying this spread is a love note. I am too young to send you a note during Math class and I am not old enough to give you a diamond Rolex, but this picnic, here right now, is the most I can do, and I do it with glee, for you ! Tyler looked at me, as I watched the scene and said he is probably thinking this is extra. No I did not think anything like that. She said that I had agreed to take their pictures. That was my cue to play the part in this unfolding scene. I stood up and said, "if you want me to name my feelings I can. I feel a sense of joy and also sadness, but I am not sure why." Was I experiencing the feelings that lead people to cry at rom-coms where at the end the leads find true love? As I approached I spoke out loud. This is clear way of showing someone that you love them, all this effort is an effort of appreciation. She said as she used to quickly demonstrate, "Of course I love him, he is my boyfriend." All the feels swept me both away and into the moment. Taylor gave me a camera. Do not know the name but it is those where you can take a picture and then a photo comes up. It is the modern one. Not the one from days of old. Taylor started to give me directions. "I honestly think you would be good" if you stepped closer." If I took the picture from too close, I would not capture the whole motif- the table, the pineapple, the tumblers with wine. But Taylor was telling me to get close. So I did. Then he told me, move the camera up a little, a little more up. The movements up were small. Seriously. I felt micro-directed to the degree that is less than a centimeter. But I remained present. I had to. I was happy too but also frustrated but I was not the one in the moment, I was just there to document. And they were into the moment. Tyler was in control. I asked Brianna for input, she said that she "trusted us". She really trusted Tyler with the process. As I took the second picture, yes, I took a second, after the first, and after a camera roll refill, I saw Tyler eyes. They were fully into the moment, staring hard into the camera. As I gave them back the camera, they did not offer me food. Tyler did tell me, "you have great character, has every anyone told you that you have great character." I share this story to illuminate what Hilltop Park can hold. read more

Took an out of town friend here so he can have a look of Long Beach. The views of the ocean, San Pedro, LBG or airport, the city was fantastic. The walk is not that long but with details of flowers, trees, and others. They also have benches for you just sit relax, recharge or/and enjoy the views. read more

I won't lie, it had been so long since I had been to Hilltop Park, I forgot that it existed lol. From what I remember, coming here always meant struggling to find parking and there being a lot of people over at the park but not this time. I was lucky enough to get here about twenty minutes before sunset and there was so much parking and not that many people here. Just the way I like it :) The view was gorgeous btw, and the sky was actually really clear, almost a little too clear considering the string of wildfires that have taken place in recent days. You could see all the way to Santa Monica, a phenomenal view and even prettier at night with all of the lights. Also, I love seeing how clean the place is kept. It makes me want to come back more often to watch the sunset or to ponder after a long day. read more

Absolutely love coming here for sunset on a clear day! Views all around Long beach, nice large grass patch for folks to sit on, some cool art installations with history, sidewalks for kiddos to play on scooters and a nice cool 2-ish mile walk around the neighborhood hill. You can even catch the big airliners landing into Long Beach airport. There is usually an ice cream/food truck parked there but recommend grabbing some snacks beforehand and a picnic blankets and coming around the end of the day. It's very busy, so louder if you're looking for a quieter nature experience you probably won't find it in the summer time evenings. There is a very small parking lot but have never had an issue finding a spot close by. read more

There are bathrooms (although not the cleanest), gazebo covered tables with grills, shade from trees, and a landscaped area to enjoy the view from the cement benches or take a closer look through the 25 cent mounted telescopes. Beautiful park with views of downtown Long Beach, downtown LA (on a clear day), situated on top of a park. You can oftentimes find an ice cream food truck here in the summer evenings as well. There's a nice two mile hike through the neighborhoods that you can start around Hilltop Park as well and there's a few bathrooms here as well. It is one of my favorite places to elevation-train around Long Beach. If you're looking for more of an urban hiking adventure (with views of the Long Beach airport too!), Hilltop Park is a good place to start. The two-mile loop will take an average of an hour or so--so great routine to add in the evenings when you have time! read more

It overlooks harbor, airport and the LB city, where the view extends to the Santa Monica Mountains, Catalina Island, and DTLA on a crystal clear day. My experience here was fine, as it's not always easy to find convenient parking during peak hours, and it might end up walking up the hill. read more

Hilltop Park offers one of the best views in the L.A. area. The smoke signal in the center of the park alludes to the long history which inspired the naming of the city. Indians used the hill to signal their relations living 26 miles away by creating smoke. Today, the fire still burns symbolically at the Hilltop Park monument. Also on view at Hilltop Park are several shadow art frames. A placard tells exactly what you are looking at through the frame. There are also photos and plaques with historical data. Picnic tables, public restrooms and paved walking paths at the park make it an enjoyable spot to visit. read more

This park holds somewhat of a special place in my life, and I had the opportunity to revisit it again. Backstory: During the start of the pandemic back in 2020, I used to work in Signal Hill and was feeling miserable at my job because of the toxic environment. At the same time, I was living alone near Downtown Long Beach and was going through an agonizing separation from a relationship that was disintegrating. Hilltop Park was my escape and therapy to get away from the things that were happening in my personal life. Just looking at the breathtaking view of the city and the beach from afar was just enough to help me feel better. The great thing about this park is definitely the view, which you can also see in a better spotlight if you use the park telescopes. I can see why many people visit this park every day, although I'm not sure if the local residents around the area quite enjoy it, haha. On occasion, there are sometimes ice cream and food trucks that are next to the park to accommodate hungry visitors. Even though I'm currently living farther away from Hilltop Park, I hope to return soon to enjoy the scenery once more. read more

This place has one of the best views of LA. It's like Griffith Observatory and Twin Peaks came together and created the most gorgeous panoramic view of the city lights and coast. The park is so well maintained with clean walkways and lush grass and has restrooms, tables, benches, and grills. I'm glad this is on the outskirts of LA because I can imagine how packed this place would get. It's so serene and a great spot for dates, picnics, or a casual stroll. There's also a nearby trail for those who want a workout. FYI curfew is at 10pm so make sure to leave by then to avoid getting towed! read more

The small park is located at 2351 Dawson Ave, Signal Hill, CA 90755 and has a great panoramic view of the city. It's rather quiet and with some tourist that visit the area. A resident in the area was nice enough to take some pictures on our cameras. It was nice for them to do that. No vendors around the area and just a park. Nice to take a ride up to the area and around town. People actually live right across the street and the park is keep very clean from our visit. We didn't have a chance to return in the evening and I am sure that would be pleasant view to see all of the city lights gleaming at you. Hilltop Park is a nice little park located on top of Signal Hill. It is located in a nice neighborhood surrounded by nice expensive homes. The park provides a great views of Long Beach and surrounding cities. They say on a clear day you can see Catalina island in the distance. This wasn't the case when I visited. The park itself is fairly small with only a few parking spaces. However, there are a few benches and lawn space where you can relax and take in the views. read more

South Bay is not an area I frequent and coming here was such a treat. You'll find street parking and depending on the day and time of day. Bring a blanket if you so you can lay on the grass. There are a few tables and places to sit. There are mostly couples here, but being here with friends is also great. read more

Wow I didn't know this place existed! The park is beautiful and the views are amazing. I consider this an urban hike. Use the AllTrails app to find the best path. We followed one of the paths a user took and it took us around the park, down into the residential area and up into the Signal Hill trail. It was about 1.62 miles. It was circular. The last .5 miles up the hill are killer. It's a pretty steep incline (no steps) but the workout is amazing. The path is well maintained. Mostly concrete but part of it was on dirt. Make sure to admire the amazing views because it is just jaw dropping. Also part of the path does go into some gated communities. I was worried it was trespassing but the signs indicated it was a trail. Just be mindful of the people and their property. Have a great time! Wear a hat. Some shade but not a lot. read more

Besides the parking being hard to find sometimes, this park is actually one of the best to go and visit to catch fresh air around town. Come here weekday if you to visit the park. It's less crowded than weekends. It's on top of the hill so you can get a 360-degree view of LA and OC. Not to mention you can see the ocean view pretty much any day. This park makes it the best place to go to watch the July 4th fireworks around town as you are situated high and can see fireworks all over town. That is of course if they still allow non-residents to enter the park. The only concern I have this place is sometimes you get rowdy people who plays loud music and complete disregard that some people appreciates silence. Some people also have bbq here and not clean up after themselves which irritates me. read more

The Best place to view all of long beach and surrounding cities. From Catalina to Palos Verdes and even the Hollywood Sign are visible from this point. The absolute best time to come is during the evening just before the sun sets. Parking is very limited and you are not allowed to be in the property past 10pm, that Includes sunset view park which is on the corner of skyline and hill (By the Statues). Panorama Dr. Has an amazing view of the long beach airport and from here you can see downtown LA and the Hollywood Sign. You have to park somewhere in the neighborhood, but pay close attention to the parking rule signs to avoid getting in trouble with the neighborhood cop.
