Miguel R.

Point Fermin park is known for many things, starting with its ocean side state, and we cannot forget its casually used amphitheater that presents Shakespeare by the Sea in summer months, and including the many wonders that green grass witnesses: the humor and play of children as they kick balls and lick melting ice cream, family reunions catered with large Doritos bags, grilled patties and wurst and deep conversations by teenage youth who have yet to know what a broken heart truly results in, not only a crush of spirit, but a void in the spirit. But today, I catalog another beautiful moment that happened on the grassy annex trails that connect to the main grounds of the park- a man asking a girl to be his girlfriend with a moment that was enhanced by production value. My friend Conrad and I walked past the grassy Annex stretch, on a lengthy walk to meet the 10,000 suggested step requirement. And we saw a man and a woman setting something up with roses and tall. We crossed the street, as we believed we would view a rising Day of the Dead Altar. But when we were close, the woman explained that their friend was going to ask a girl he had been seeing to be his girlfriend. Then I understood, this was something between a promposal and a traditional proposal--- this was an over the top, will you be my girlfriend proposal? What can it be called? Something with the word steady? Something with the word promise? It has to be inclusive. Maybe- ?????- a rosesosal? I thought and pondered and this is where I landed. If you look at the video and pictures that corresponds to the review, the main heart is made with red roses. And I can easily imagine most proposals that make two people committed to one another, involve some type of rose. I mean, what would Valentine's day be, without bouquets and pedals--- barren, so roses are the red standard for moments like this, me thinks. I asked the girl if we could sit in a nearby bench to view the moment. She said yes. Conrad and I sat, and viewed them setting up the arch, the electric candles, the red carpet and the other items that would make this moment a spectacle to honor love. Conrad wanted to go, he felt that we were intruding on a private moment. But, then I explained to him, from my view point, that once they decided to have this moment in a public park the planners forfeited their right to privacy. If a girl is making out with another girl in a school's hallway, during operational hours, she cannot then explain that she wants to protect her same-sex attraction from others, because she did not do her best to keep the fact a secret. As Conrad and I were having this healthy debate, a man shouted from a moving car, "don't do it turn around!" He was maybe funny, maybe crass, but he was completely within his right to shout a stab at the romantic momeny, why, because once they decided to host their event in public sight, they invited public opinion and as we all know some people keep their opinion to themselves, and others will speak their opinion freely. However, I understand that decency demands that people respect the public actions of others, if they are meant to be a moment shared between the few. I take comfort in the fact that I awed in the moment, and cataloged for what it was--- an act of hope for days full of love. Conrad was pushing to go. But we stayed long enough for the car to come. The girl had a blindfold on as she got out of the car. The set-up guy, hid behind a tree, all giddy in crouch, and turned on the music and sparklers as the girl approached the red carpet. I felt the joy of the moment, held on Point Fermin Park. The girl eventually said yes, she was now half of a couple. She was honored with pomp and circumstance. She was asked to be exclusive with romance made physical. The guy most truly see this woman as the one, at least in this moment of time. The pair who helped the man asked the blindfolded girl to be his girlfriend were accomplices in act of romance that was a story for them all to carry. And I who witness the event, felt lucky to have viewed corny done right, and received well. It was a wide-screen movie moment done with high school props that landed with good feeling. In the midst of the world's pain, a girl had a roserosal that I am sure made her special, and to quote the great Riri, like she was the only girl in the world.

Point fermin will never disappoint. It is a great for a day trip. It's lush scenery historic significance, and educational value will leave you in amazement. This location is perfect for picnics with with concrete tables. Each offering distance from others. Did I mention this location is Squirrel happy, they will come right up to you. I myself try to discourage behavior like that. Plenty parking however on weekends parking is tough.

Came to see the San Pedro Sunkin City, but could not get the Sunkin City posting other than this site. I enjoyed the park in the past and have been here several times this past summer for a couple, of concerts and other events. We had such a blast. The park is located next to Sunkin City which is a road that slid into the ocean and took a few homes with it. Beautiful place if it wasn't for the Graffiti some vandals placed on the rocks. Awesome view

So. Many. Squirrels. And lizards on the two ways down to the ocean from Point Fermin. Both which lead to a very steep, narrow number of stairs so climb carefully! At the bottom you'll find endless beautiful waves crashing but this isn't the place to bring your blankets and sunbathe because it's super rocky and the tide is high. Nevertheless I'll go here again and again because it's just that perfect!

Point Fermin Park in San Pedro California is very scenic!

Point Fermin Park, located in historic coastal city of San Pedro,California is a beautiful hidden gem overlooking the scenic Pacific Ocean! This a beautiful location to take a refreshing walk,to sit and relax or for a nice family picnic! There is a kids outdoor activity center on the lawn and plenty of parking is available.Ofcourse the best part is the refreshing ocean breezes and sunny California sunshine at Point Fermin Park!

Who doesn't like a walk in the park? Point Fermin Park in San Pedro is a nice one. Beautiful view of the ocean. Plenty of parking available. If you get tired of walking, there are benches and picnic tables to sit at. Lots of green open space and lots of shaded space also. Coolest thing to me is that the Point Fermin Lighthouse is located here. Anytime we are in San Pedro. Point Fermin Park is a place we will go to.

Beautiful views. Lots of parking at the park, benches and restrooms available. Signs say no trespassing, and you do have to go over a gate, it's illegal if you get caught over there, also lots of people slip and fall to their death sometimes. Google it. Not worth the risk to me but beautiful.

I'm definitely coming back , so enjoyable!

Point Fermin Park is one of those unique spaces on the Southern California landscape. It is this nice park, at the end of the road, that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Whereas many parks are set up with basketball courts, football fields, and other sports related activity areas, this is not the case with Point Fermin. Mostly, this is just a very scenic park where people walk, have picnics, and do things like that. Yes, they do have a small, yet very unique amphitheater, where once upon a time I imagine they gave concerts and put on plays. I have not seen anything like that going on in recent years, however. But, the amphitheater is still there and it is a unique historic structure. This park is also home to a large house, constructed a long-long time ago, where you can get tours. If you're into doing stuff like that, this gives you a peek into the way life used to be in Southern California. For you adventurers who want to investigate truly unique Southern California locations, this is also the park where are you climb over the fence and walk down to Slab City. Technically, you're not supposed to do that, but that doesn't seem to stop the many graffiti artists and others who want to walk down among those formations. Overall, if you want to take a nice walk along the California coast, from an elevated location, and see the wonders of the California landscape, this is a great place to do just that. There's plenty of parking along the outer ridge of the park, and the parking is free. Also, if you look Eastward and upward you can see the Korean Bell. Overall, nice park. A great place to take a moment and relax.

Point Fermin Lighthouse is a park in San Pedro overlooking the ocean. Light at the Lighthouse was a recent free event, a yearly free Christian concert celebrating its 20th year anniversary, this past last Saturday of August. Before COVID-19 lockdown there used to be the Filipino Festival of Arts around every September, another free event with good food and good music. Now, today, we are just kind of ambling along enjoying the fresh air. Looking at the falcons or hawks or eagles. And ravens and crows. And seagulls. And sparrows and butterflies. The Point Fermin Lighthouse and park celebrates recently its 150th birthday anniversary celebration. And so here we are with a bag of peanuts and walnuts and almonds. To feed the wild squirrels. There are hopefully many "tame" dogs out being walked today. Dog walking spotting is also a fun sport.

The park is really nice and all but since when did it become a no drone zone? This is getting ridiculous

This is a park area in San Pedro by the ocean. There are sidewalks, benches, a children's play area, ground squirrels, lighthouse, and a historic display. It is very scenic to walk and see the ocean waves below. It was a sunny day with a nice breeze. So perfect!

Just keep in mind that there are quite a few hills, and it's not the most stroller-friendly location. While there are some accessible paths, many of the trails eventually lead to stairs. Averill is a nice, peaceful spot to escape the rat race for a short while and recharge before continuing with the stress and demands of daily life. Many students, unfortunately, live in foster homes that rarely take the children out into the community to learn how to function in the REAL world. Too many are placed in front of the TV when they are not at school, just being fed and receiving the bare minimum of personal care so CBI is important for them to be able to function in the community after they become adults and age out from qualifying for foster care anymore. The benches by the lake or the gazebo located in the upper part towards the northeast part of AP are especially restful areas to regain your sense of sanity and to recharge. If you happen to be in Pedro, bring a snack and beverage so you can spend time with the ducks and enjoy some downtime in a peaceful place.

It was a wonderful day, and one I recommend for others to attend, not only to feel the vibrations of the bell when it is hit with a large hanging tree trunk, but also to celebrate the liberation that was given to a criminally oppressed people. And to also understand that liberation, although won at battles, still has not full embraced and enveloped all. So that bell has not fully been rung, and thus we must continue, until we hear the greatest knell in history the one that indicates that all humans have an unfettered chance to reach their best future with confidence. The celebration was sponsored by local political players. Suitably, there were a lot of speeches. But I never hate a speech just because its long. I genuinely hear speeches because they might contain words that move me into action or new perspective, and thus I always try to hear them to understand their value. One of the most memorable speeches of the day, was a person who explained that freedom and liberty has not reached all modern day people (duh!) because freedom, true freedom, means that all have a fair and equitable chance to attain economic prosperity. And from my limited perspective, what she said made sense, a whole lot of it. A person might have the freedom to wear what they chose, to eat what they crave, to dance in their style and funk, to offer their devotion to their deity. However, if all these freedoms do not include a chance to build wealth, without external interruption that is driven by who a person is, then freedom is superficial. Yes, money is the root of all evil, but money is also the foundation for legacy, protection and choice, and, well, freedom. And thus, she reminded all present that we must continue to fight against injustice and thus the bell rang and made each of us an instrument of peace. Beyond speeches from political leaders there was also songs performed by vocalists- a mother and daughter. A lot was happening fast, and sometimes the sound system gave up, so I am afraid I did not get their names. But I do remember them singing a song, right before the bell rung that had the following lyrics: "What would you do, if you had nothing to fight for and nothing to die for?" What would a person do in a world marked by substantial peace? Would we be happy or would we miss the fight? Meaning is the gift of the battle the persistence needed to continue even when all seems at rest? Injustice has created warriors that understand that a white flag will never be planted. The day was meant to celebrate freedom and deliver of message of positive togetherness as the moment celebrated Juneteenth using Korean spirt. But the speeches brought the seemingly opposing concepts together using the thread of a universal recognition that freedom is a wonderful thing. This link was greatly conveyed but fell short in the Mexican sweetbreads that had small Juneteeth flags planted on them. I know I am being petty because Mexican bread can be used to celebrate Juneteenth, for sure I get that. But I would have rather had celebratory bites from the Black/African American community. I know I am being petty, but, hey, that is my freedom. That choice seemed more convenient rather than being connected to the greater purpose of freedom. The last activity of the celebration was ringing the actual bell. Like 7 people, grabbed the wooden log. And we gently slammed it into the bell. The bell rung with vibrations that my skin could feel. We could slightly hug the bell to have ur bodies feel the vibrations. And the experience was memorable. I do not know how many people have the opportunity to hug a bell as it sends off vibration after being hit. But if you have the opportunity seize it, I think you will be a better person for it, or at least, know what ringing feels like on the skin not just the ear drums. As I walked back to the car, I enjoyed the blue views and ocean breeze. I also saw a kite flying high. Yes, it had a string to it, but it was flying free.

If you walk down the grassy knoll, the view of the pacific ocean and cliffs were spectacular. Having a seat and just taking it all in was nice. It was windy so it did get cold but on a nice sunny and clear day, you could see miles and miles of the coastline and tide pools. These little hidden spots in the city are cute when you find them. Lots of people use this route to run or walk and also walk their dogs. Most people are friendly and will wave or say good morning as they go by. There are 2 little mini parks along this path that people can relax at, in addition to going down to Point Fermin park, where the famous lighthouse is located. I've seen some people sit and have picnics or sit in their cars and enjoy the views. I've also seen some of the neighbors have a house party and people overflow to the parks. The sunrises and sunsets are amazing and at times, you can hear the water crashing below. Many of the homes over here are beautiful and some are in need of renovations, but either way the eclecticness of the neighborhood comes together beautifully. For the most part, people take good care of their homes. There are some losers who park and smoke weed right here and try to look all innocent as you go by, but it's reeking from their car, so you know what they're doing.
