My go to park to run early in the morning. Very open and exposed park with just the right amount of hills and elevation. One of the best parks...if not the best...for views overlooking the LA Harbor and San Pedro. Multiple entrances to choose from. Opens at 7am.

great park to walk, hike with great view of Vincent Thomas bride and downtown San pedro. the park is closed on Monday and tuesday... but you can still roam around...theres a dirt hiking trail which loops around so it's impossible for you to get lost.. good for family outing and walking... at the top there a large Grass area where you can just sit or lie down on the grass and relax

Nice short uphill hike with views. Quite empty during covid-19. Came with the family and had a nice quiet picnic.

Never mind how spectacular the views are I was scared as crap driving up here in my car! The road was all open, like nothing but air Was between me and lower ground, a gazillion feet down there When I got to the top, I planned on never coming down 'Cause that road looked even scarier on the outside lane *big frown* Oddly, it didn't bother me much to walk around the grounds The place is 100 acres, it appears to have no bounds A big picnic area has views that are breathtaking But I had to stay away from the edge to keep my hands from shaking As I took the photos of the views, the camera was not steady I wondered how I'd ever get down, I'd had enough already But I went one level slightly higher, as long as I was there Figured I'd never be back again, not even on a dare The second level is a whole separate park: Bogdanovich Rec Center But you can use the road from Friendship Park to enter The Recreation Center is all about sports Baseball fields, soccer fields, basketball, & all sorts Of kids playground equipment. Kids were all around. And then I spotted my exit route, where I'd be safe and sound A second entrance to the park! The Force is with me still A different way down, a way to avoid that scary road on that hill The Rec Center entrance is on Cumbre Drive, number 1920 I was so glad to see that flat street, I gave thanks aplenty So....what a ride, I did survive, and next time I will know A more reasonable way to drive to the top, a way that doesn't blow But if you like heights, take the scary road - the views are really great Maybe now that I know what to expect, I too could appreciate But.....not in this lifetime, no problemo, I assure you I can wait In my future life as a hang gliding instructor, with heights I won't hesitate 16 photos, check 'em out, to get them took a lot It just proves I'll do any damn thing to nail a decent shot

This review is for a hike to Palos Verdes Beach. We started at the Deane Dana Nature Center and hiked down to the beach. The hike itself is not actually one designated trail, but sort of a mix of multiple trails put together. It was about 5 miles roundtrip. There was not much difficulty overall, but the last hill was tough. The trail is wide and smooth and is a mixture of dirt and pavement. Most of the way to PCH was downhill. Once we reached this point, we crossed the road and continued west toward the water. There were some inclines that were a bit steep, but for the most part the hike was pretty easy. This portion of the hike was along the cliff side overlooking the water. It was an overcast day, so the views were limited but still beautiful. There are multiple trails in this area and many ways to get to the beach. It would be difficult to get lost. Once we may our way down to the beach, we noticed the golden sand and a rocky area with crashing waves. It was very picturesque. The hike back was very pleasant, until reaching the very last hill near the Nature Center. This is a monstrous thing that is pretty steep. Although tough, it was a nice, lower body workout parking - free parking at the Nature Center tip - spend a few minutes inside the Nature Center. They have a few stuffed animals, snakes, and reptiles to see

This is a large park with plenty of space to roam. You will find bathroom facilities, swings, and all the park amenities you might expect. We tend to enter the park from the far outskirts which back up into Rancho Palos Verdes. We enter where the sudo dog park is, this is much less crowded and a great place to fly a kite, kick a ball around, or even ride a bike.

I went looking for a place to go for a run that wasn't too far from my house. At first, I first went to Averill park and realized that the park was more for a stroll than for running. Friendship park is about 1/2 a mile from Averill park and it is definitely meant for runners and bikers. There are a lot of hills and a lot of trails. There are signs saying to keep away from the vegetation because they are trying to restore the natural habitat. There are other signs also saying to beware of the rattlesnakes :P This place has a playground, soccer field, baseball field, GORGEOUS view of San Pedro. Beautiful place to run, however it is a bit of a short run, hitting most of the trails, I got in about 3 miles total, I'd definitely go again because of the view. It is open from dawn to dusk.

Great hiking trail here. Not too short and not too long. There is also a great place for our dogs to run around.

    Friendship Park

What an awesome park, view in every direction. As I'm being told that both sides of the Park is Called Friendship Park the one with the Trails and Picnic area as well as the other side with the Baseball Fields. You can bring the kids or all Adults throw a blanket on the grass and have lots of fun here.Kits flying, kids running around ans even grown ups playing on swings.the view is worth coming for.

Does anyone know if the cool bubble play structure still exists at Friendship Park? Would love to check it out but wasn't sure based on photo caption "Does anyone remember this cool structure from the 1980's?"

I absolutely remember the large bubble play structure. We lived near there growing up and we used to love going there. Glad someone else remembers it too...

A couple of things that could be better: It's a dirt/sand path, so wear shoes you don't mind getting dusty--unless you want to spend each day cleaning them. It's usually around 6,000 steps for me--though that varies--and roughly 400 calories burned (but don't quote me on that!). Overall, it's about a 45-minute hike/jog with ups and downs--just enough to get your heart going, and then you can treat yourself to a city-state after. Pretty good overall--highly recommend it!

It used to be free but it's $6 per person and you have to park on the street, but no big deal here . . . yet. Our group of 3 walks up along with another person and we try to check in with 2 men at a table. One older gray haired man tells us the tour already started. I'm completely confused and look at my watch, and say, "it's only 3 minutes after the start time." Then he says, "We were looking for you!" I said, "Well, you weren't looking very hard because here we all are checking in at the start of the tour." After he checks us in, I ask if we can sprint to catch up to the tour and he says yes. I lean into the doorway and see the rest of the tour - 4 other women right there. So half the tour was 3 minutes "late" and they decided to start, weird but moving on. The woman leading the tour was really quite lovely and I wasn't expecting the house to be so amazing since I was focused on the garden part but I really loved learning about the house and original inhabitants. We are asked several times if we want to join the meditation but I'm getting culty vibes and we keep politely declining. Once we are outside, we are asked again if we would like to join the meditation and now the gray haired man is with us again and I said, "No, we really just wanted to see the gardens." At this point he says, "Oh the gardens are closed." I'm completely confused again and said, "What? But that's why we came-- to see the gardens & labyrinth." He then says, "Oh! well the labyrinth is open but the gardens are closed." At this point I think they asked us to join the meditation again. I asked when they expected them to be opened and the response was June of this year, maybe because there have been a lot of delays. Again, weird, but okay we just want to walk the labyrinth. There were a couple of other women walking it and then our group of three joined too. I'm halfway thru it and I look up and see the gray haired man STARING at us - which included 3 preteens/teens in halter tops posing and taking pix - and I was so incredibly creeped out. I had no idea what to do, cross the labyrinth? ask him what he is staring at? I came to this place to ground and do something calming and now I have a man staring at me and other women but since everyone else was looking down or at their phone, they didn't notice so I didn't want to disrupt THEIR experience. Eventually he went away, to join the meditation I guess. We finished the labyrinth and left. It was only $6 but since it didn't mention the gardens were closed on the website or ticket, I am asking for a refund. Would I go again when the gardens are open? Yes. Would I recommend to others? Yes. Would I advise against it as a single woman? Also yes. I will update if they refund us or not.

But the second you actually spend time here, especially on a weekend, it turns into something completely different and honestly pretty disturbing. The park gets insanely packed, which already makes everything feel chaotic, but the real issue is the condition of the facilities. The restrooms are beyond unacceptable. Not just "oh it's a public park" bad, but genuinely shocking, like something that makes you stop and question how this is even allowed to stay open. I'm talking about conditions that feel neglected to the point where it's uncomfortable just being nearby, let alone going inside. I went into two different restrooms thinking maybe one was just unlucky... nope, both were equally disgusting. I'll be posting pictures because it honestly doesn't feel believable otherwise. It gives off this weird in-between vibe where you don't know if you're at a city park or some kind of neglected shelter space, and that's not something anyone should feel at a place like this. What really made it worse for me is walking into the recreation building with the basketball and volleyball courts and realizing it's the same story inside. Worn down, under-maintained, and just lacking any sense that the city is actually investing in it. Meanwhile, you literally have the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust right there being renovated and cared for, which just makes the contrast even more frustrating. How is that level of attention happening on one side, but the actual park people use daily feels ignored? It's honestly disappointing because this place has so much potential. The location alone should make it one of the best parks in LA, but instead it feels like it's being left behind. I hate to say it, but I probably won't be coming back. There are just too many other parks where you don't have to deal with this level of neglect.
