We love hiking at this park year round! There are about 3-4 miles of trails with half of them in the shade which are great for warm days. Currently, there are some picturesque fall foliage to see. Really cool park. Aside from the skateboard part and bbq areas, the walking path is really cool. Super beginner level walk good for the entire family. We walked almost the entire path and it was maybe 3 miles. Thus path is all hard packed dirt with some slight elevation changes. So a nice easy walk with good views of long beach and nice forest lime path areas. We will do this one for sure. read more

*slaps park* This bad boy can fit so many picnics in it. I sometimes just like scrolling through Google Maps and choosing random places and then going to them. My life is exciting, I know. That was how I came across Peck Park, which isn't named after "Drake & Josh" star Josh Peck, I found out much to my disappointment. Peck Park is definitely larger than I thought. There is a nice hilly grassy area that can indeed host plenty of picnics, barbecues, frisbee tosses, and basically any other outdoor activity you can think of. I walked around a bit, and I saw the secluded trail alongside a river with discarded shopping cards. Couldn't quite muster up the courage to go into that trail alone, but I'm sure it's...fine? Anyways, I also checked out the skatepark, which featured some pretty good ramps. Heard also there's some tennis courts and playareas here, but I was still kind of tearing up that the park was not named after the actor who played Josh Nichols--brother of Drake Parker--that I decided to just leave. read more

Nice urban park with plenty of trees and packed dirt trails for easy walking. There is only slight elevation gain. My labrador retriever loves the trails. There are views of the Port of Long Beach if you walk past the playground, volleyball courts, tennis courts and grassy areas. read more

Very beautiful park with many matured trees. Parking is easy walking distance to the play ground and they even have a basketball court. Park is newly updated and very clean. It's a dump. Druggies everywhere. Homeless encampments in every nook and cranny. Nobody keeps their dog on leash or picks up crap. There are trash cans, but nobody knows how to use them. If it's not locked up, it will get stolen, including basketball nets and the tarps that block the wind at the tennis courts, tennis nets. I've seen men hitting women, sex in bushes, several fires, motorcycles on baseball fields, etc etc...The pool is empty and gated off, but you can always find somebody skating in there. There is no enforcement of any rules and this place has become unsafe for normal kids to play. Don't bother with the skateboard park unless you're a bully yourself. I'm sorry, I grew up here. I love this place, but it's far gone. Give it a chance, maybe you'll have a great time. If you spend any time here though, something bad will happen. Good luck! read more

Can't believe that I've lived just a couple blocks away, been there probably hundreds of times, and had never even thought to check in... Much less review it!!! Beautiful park that every time I'm in it, memories of my youth ramble on recklessly through the few brain cells I've got left from experiencing the '70's the way they were meant to be experienced... Dazed and confused!!! Gallivanting through the hillsides with the then future wife, doing things we probably shouldn't have been doing, (much less spill my guts about now)... Think Chris Tucker in a "Friday" movie... Puff, puff, pass, puff, puff, pass... Rambling on and on and on... With no end in sight. (See... That's what the 70's did to us, lol)... Back to the task at hand. There is a walking / jogging trail on the south side, accessible from Patton Ave, that has been refurbished and is quite serene to say the least. Great place to clear your head... Basketball courts, baseball fields, a pool, recreation center and lots of space. Wide. Open. Space. A premium in the city. I love this park, even if it's just passing thru on my way to the local CVS or the Barbershop. And the skaters seem to love the new digs too!!! What I would have given for something like that when I was a young toodlum. Would've saved a pool or two... read more

Much more here than appears from the street. At first it looks like just a nice shaded park with the picnic and play areas, but the real meat and potatoes lie in the hiking area. When you start off, you're underneath some nice tall trees that provide plenty of shade and coolness (on a hot day). There's like a long canyon that cuts through the center and splits the park off from homes the further down you go. When you get to the bottom, you can turn around and go back up the way you came or cross over the gully and work your way back up that way. It turns out to be more of a workout than at first glance. read more

This huge facility has a view of Long Beach Harbor. The park borders a canyon & offers interesting hilly walking paths. Not so sure I would wander around the area alone though, because at times some parts seem a little deserted, on weekdays especially. The main picnic and play areas are always crowded however, it's a popular spot for locals. There's plenty of parking all over the grounds. As you drive farther in, away from Western, you see ball fields, a large gym building, even a separate building for the pool. There's a community center with child care programs. Once you get past the shady people and the stray cats, it's a nice park. A lot of little trails that make this feel like a quick escape from the city, kind of like having a hiking path within a park. Plenty of parking on the lower levels. Restrooms seem questionable. read more

I love coming here with my dogs. Super quiet and a great workout. I did across a very rude, inconsiderate dog owner. He was up on the park with his kids and dogs riding bikes on grass. I had asked him if he could grab hos dog to leash him up as the dog saw my 2 dogs and seemed like he wanted to ineract. He told me NO. I think that answer regardless of how trained your dog is , is very irresponsible. I will never take chances and didnt appreciate his answer. I continued to walk to my car and that's when he left as well. All owners should be responsible and be mindful of their animals. That owner was so into the bike not working properly that what if his dog got too close and a fight break out. I will not be responsible if something happens and i am properly FOLLOWING THE LAW. i will continue to come here, owners just be mindful. There are also new signs up "beware of coyotes". read more

I can only talk about my short times at the skatepark... so far everyone has been very loving and supportive... they cheer on people and it's a total good vibes scene. An amazing park. Kudos to the city workers who keep the children's area clean and the grass well kept. This park is nice to take walks or jog. It has paths from one side to another where one can hike/walk/jog. It sort of divides into two areas by a creek in the middle. The view to San Pedro Port is amazing. The only problem is that thugs vandalize and graffiti the trees, rocks, and buildings. Such a shame :( During the week is nice and quiet. On the weekend it's pretty busy. A lot of cats live there and looks like volunteers go and feed them. There are tons of trash cans everywhere so no need to hold one's trash for a long time until finding a trash can. There are also tons of benches and tables for picknicking. Oh and the bathrooms are clean. A really nice park. read more

This park It's way larger than it looks at first glance. It's got a basketball court, tennis court, play structures & lots of paths to walk your little buddy. If you go after work or on the weekends you'll find plenty of people to play a game of pick-up. And if you want to just shoot some hoops by yourself you can do that at almost anytime of the day or week. There's lots of room to throw the frisbee around with a friend, 2 legged or 4. My little buddy loves all the trails, for him It's like a maze of smells & for me it's a great view while I'm walking with my buddy. I don't really pay tennis much but I pay a lot of dodgeball so it's nice to have a tennis court to go practice my throws at! I'm going I can find some more people interested in playing dodgeball here on a regular basis with me since the court is usually free. read more

Nice trail in the center of the park that is short but pretty good for hiking or MTB like I did. I ended up riding all the way down to Gaffey and went thru one other park and breifly a neighborhood. But ifs a fun short ride or you can continue and ride down to the USS IOWA or Ports O' Call. Something I never knew was there... read more

This park has tennis courts , a gym, a pool and a basket ball court that gets quite a bit of action. There is a good amount of playground eqipment for the kids and on some weekends the park is packed with picnickers and ball players. In the rear of the park there is baseball fields and bleachers. Beyond the fields there are a series of trails that traverse the canyons. There is currently a project going on that has the trails gated off to the public but you can gain access to the trails at the back of the baseball field.It looks like it`s going to be really nice if they ever finish and give us back the trails. Looking for a good park to take my dog and came across Peck Park. What we thoroughly enjoyed were all the trails the park has which allowed us to go roaming as if we were out in the wild. The down side though is that there are some sketchy parts on the trails where it seems as if people are sleeping in the park. Even though i was there during plenty of daylight, i was still a bit nervous walking around there alone with my dog. It felt as if anyone could be hiding and then you are in a very hidden part of a trail where help is very far. I would go back but with a hiking partner. I did see plenty of people running the trails on their own which felt reassuring. read more

I donated nearly four years of my life to the beautification and maintenance of Peck Park and know the grounds like the back of my hand and can say that this is an amazing place. While I am no longer affiliated with the park, I continue visiting as often as possible. While there aren't any public utopian places on earth, not everyone you encounter at Peck will be your ideal and yet the largest percentage of the visitors there are very nice and respectable people. Likewise, while the park may have a few flaws, for the most part, it can't be beaten. A vast network of hiking trails and some suitable for cross country runner training, a lighted out door basketball area, an adult league sized baseball field that can double as a football or soccer field, lighted out door tennis courts, multiple horseshoe pits suitable for league play, a gymnasium with inside basketball court, an out door heated swimming pool (currently closed for maintenance), a large community center, a skateboard park and multiple large pic-nick areas as well as several smaller pic-nick areas and there is ample parking throughout much of the community areas of Peck Park. You'd be hard pressed to find another park that offers so much diversity and covering such a huge area that is so well maintained. Peck Park is amazing and I highly recommend it to all. read more

Not a bad park for you to take your kids, pets, or for a nice stroll. There's one basketball court with lights and a huge playground. The field can be a bit messy with dog poo littering the masses at times. There are plenty of park benches with BBQ's and softball fields nearby which by the way are for city use only. I also noticed a sign prohibiting people from kicking soccer balls around the open field. During the weekdays, there are a bunch of transients meddling around as an FYI. read more

I use to come to the trails about every week about 2 years ago. Went back today and it is ran down! Homeless ppl down by the creaks. Shopping carts thrown down the hills. Piles of clothes under trees. Smells like pee as soon as u start the trail. Carts sitting in the middle of the trails with homeless ppls stuff. I understand they need some where to go but not here. Trails need some work. I dont seen any improvement. Even though theres signs saying they are redoing the trails. Going to have to find a new hiking trail. read more

The park is very nice, the facilities at this park are of the best in the entire area. They have a large community center building, great playground for the kids, nice ball fields, and a nice pool facility. The rules for the pool facility, however, are ridiculous and not family friendly. We have 3 children (the oldest is 6 1/2) and we were not allowed to swim at the facility because they require a 1:1 parent/child ratio for children 6 and under. Additionally, the person who we met at the admissions counter was rude and laughed at every question I asked her. It was the first time we had ever stepped foot in the facility, and probably the last for us. read more

Peck Park is a large park in San Pedro that has a community center, 6 tennis courts (lighted), a huge pool (outdoor / heated), an auditorium, picnic tables, barbecue pits, baseball diamonds (lighted), basketball courts (lighted / indoor / outdoor), a children's play area, football field (lighted), meeting rooms, etc. They have MANY different FREE community programs for kids and teenagers (including a computer lab, with tutoring). All of the facilities are great. However, I would never take my nieces to Peck Park to play because there are too many seedy people, who i assume are drug addicts, lurking all over this park (at any time of the day or night). And, in the past 10 years that I have been going to this park, I have never seen any type of security. However, I have never heard of or seen any type of problems. Nonetheless, this place does not have a good reputation (from my peers) when it comes to safety. The only purpose that I have to go to Peck Park is for the tennis courts. They are very convenient for those who want FREE, CLEAN tennis courts...with no reservations needed. Parking is super convenient. Every time I go, there are other fellow tennis players around; thus, I feel safe. And, the druggies do not come over to this side of the park. read more

Great playground equipment and open spaces for a 2yr old to run around. The tennis courts are great except when the contingent of older males take it over and think they are playing in the US Open. These guys are rude, rude, rude to those of us who don't "look" the part or might hit a random ball into their court. They also cuss a lot which is not good when there are kids around. read more

Peck Park pool is awesome. their staff is incredibly polite and always attentive. i am an individual in a wheelchair so they always keep an eye out for me when i do my laps, even when the pool is full to the brim. they keep kids at bay and away from the lanes, but are never mean to them when they move into lanes. I am always greeted with a smile. I hope all pools can be like this! read more
