There is a hidden gem in Hoboken and it's called Chango Kitchen. Nowhere else in this city you can eat a hearty meal for $12. This is why it's always packed during lunch time. They also make a frozen cafe con leche that is divine on a hot summer day!

Came to this place around 5 p.m. Service was excellent and quick. Place is pretty small. I really enjoyed the monfongo which had plantains two different ways. The Salmon was okay, I liked the flavor but my salmon was questionably undercooked. I wish it had more mango salsa on top!

There is a LOT to love about Chango Kitchen. The food is great, and the price point seems shockingly cheap for the high quality of the food. We stopped in early evening on a Friday and sat on the patio, which was more spacious than the somewhat small indoor dining space. My husband ordered the grilled fish, while I was in the mood for mofongo, which I ordered with pork. The fish filet was huge and perfectly cooked and seasoned. It came with rice and Cuban black beans, both of which were excellent. My mofongo was also enormous, with a generous amount of succulent roasted pork. It was topped with an enormous, ultra-crispy chicharron and had mariquitas on the side, all of which added great crunch to the dish. The only thing that detracted from it was the plantain mash was a bit dry, so I needed quite a bit of lime juice. But it was delicious nonetheless. Chango Kitchen is an excellent value, and I wouldn't hesitate to return!

Sooooo goood! The price for the food is so reasonable, so different than NYC! The service is so warm and friendly, everyone is caring and cool. Keep in mind the restaurant doesn't serve alcohol but allows you to bring your own alcohol and they will make you a cocktail with your own alcohol. Dunno how this is allowed but you should def take advantage of it!!! All the food options are gonna be hits, enjoy it!

Ordered: Ninos Churrasquito (~$10): junior grilled skirt steak served with rice & beans Platanos Maduros (~$4) Aya's take: I rarely come across a good meal deal that also tastes good but Chango Kitchen proved me wrong! I wasn't super hungry but definitely wanted something satisfying for dinner and came across Chango Kitchen on GrubHub. My order was ready right on time and was still hot upon eating it. The Churrasquito is a small portion packed with flavor! I loved the chimichurri sauce on the side and the rice & beans definitely filled me up. The Maduros were slightly overcooked but still complemented the dish well with the sweetness and starchiness it has. Overall, great choice and I will be coming back to dine here in-person.

A great spot for Cuban cuisine in the Hoboken area, super convenient for the neighborhood. For apps, we tried various empanadillas; the chicken was our favorite and the sauce certainly added a nice kick! For main courses, we ordered the churrasco, definitely the highlight of the meal, it was super juicy. The side of beans went perfectly over the rice. Also got Chuleta de Cerdo. The shrimp was coated in an amazing sauce, we finished every last drop. Overall, a great dining option. Definitely try if you're nearby or order takeouts!

Under Cooked Fricase de Pollo Chicken Stew with Potatoes Wouldn't Recommend This Place To Anyone

Best restaurant I've been to in YEARS. And I'm talking pre-covid! I would recommend this restaurant in every lifetime. So authentic, homey environment, this took me back to the islands. I haven't felt passionate enough to write a review like how I felt for this place!!

We had high hopes for this place based on the reviews here and Google but wow - it did not live up to it. As Hispanics, we've lived our lives eating empanadas, rice, beans, plátanos, etc and this place just didn't give the justice to the Cuban food we know and love.. We both ordered ropa vieja, I had it with the mofongo and it had a very chewy texture, not a fan. Every ropa vieja I've had before was juicy, flavorful and tender. The mofongo itself was soft and lacked flavor, I think it needed to be cooked more as I kept seeing unmelted shredded cheese as I was eating it. I also ordered it with a queso frito which was my favorite part of our whole meal. The yuca fries needed to be boiled or cooked more as well, it was a bit dense. The empanadas also had a strange flavor and consistency to it, nothing we've ever seen or had before-we were not a fan. The smoothies were delicious, though! I had the mamey and my fiancé has passion fruit. Service was ok, the gentleman was attentive but didn't check to see if we needed anything else. Ambience is cute, it's BYOB if you bring your own rum they'll make you a pitcher of mojitos as we witnessed a couple tables do this which is pretty cool and different.

Dos Huevos a su Gusto con Chorizo O Jamon, Llapingachos de Papa, Queso y Tostadas

We got (1) Dos Huevos a su Gusto con Chorizo O Jamon, Llapingachos de Papa, Queso y Tostadas (basically two eggs with toast, choice of ham or chorizo and potatoes) and (2) Tostadas con Tonga (open faced tacos with chipotle chicken). The food was pretty good, although the portion size was on the smaller size. The prices are good, each around $14. Service was quick and kind, and it was very clean inside. We went on a Sunday around 3pm and they had plenty of seats. Brunch is served 12-3pm.

    Chicken soup.
    Sid G.

I ordered 2x large chicken soups. The soup broth was good. But it had more potatoes filled in it to boost the volume. Also more chicken wings than the healthier and on nutritious chicken breast meat or thigh meat and fewer vegetables still. I have had better soup from Chango kitchen before. But this experience was not great.

Very very good little casual Cuban restaurant with unbelievably low prices and good value. The place is small but cozy and pretty nice looking. We shared appetizers of $4 ham croquettes (2), $4 beef picadillo empanadas (2), and $6 patatas bravas. The croquettes were lame and nowhere near Spain tier. The empanadas were good. The patatas bravas were fine but they're much better in Spain. I had the medianoche Cuban sandwich ($7). It was on the thinner side but maybe 10 inches long and very filling. Ham, pork, cheese, and pickles in a delicious crisp sweet bread. Came with a few strips of dried plaintain. The sandwich was EXCELLENT and the price and value are unbelievably good. The Pan con Bistec Guaro sandwich was fantastic! The steak was juicy chunks marinated in a creamy garlic sauce.

Amazing vegetarian options, the mole was perfectly flavored and super filling. yucca frita with a cilantro sauce was amazing

    Do they take reservations?

    Yes!

The food here is very good! And it has a 5 star average rating on Yelp. Does any one know why Chango's sit down dining service doesn't really seem to get crowded?

No idea. The food is amazing. The only thing we can come up with is that the location is not favorable for the sun. It gets sun in mornings and late afternoons. I think they should have done the street-ery option or put out better umbrellas. Either… Read more

There was also a DJ playing and the music was really good, creating a fun and lively atmosphere. One thing to keep in mind is that they do not have a parking lot, so street parking is the only option. The prices are also on the higher side, but I was still open to seeing if the experience would be worth it. We ordered the picadera Dominicana and the waiter asked if we wanted guacamole. At no point did she mention that it would be an extra charge, so we said yes assuming it was part of the dish. We also ordered a passion fruit sangria pitcher, which was delicious and a good size for sharing. The picadera itself was good and we enjoyed the flavors. Unfortunately, the experience changed when the bill came. Since we were splitting the bill, they charged the appetizer as two separate portions, which ended up costing more. On top of that, we were charged $13 for a very small cup of guacamole, which they labeled on the receipt as "decorative guac" (it was presented as a Dominican flag in the middle). For just an appetizer and a pitcher of sangria, our total came out to $70. What really left a bad impression was when the server brought the bill back and pointed out where the tip section was, as if we didn't know how to read or weren't planning to tip. That felt unnecessary and a bit rude. It's unfortunate because the food and atmosphere had potential, and I likely would have given this place a much better rating if the lack of transparency about the guacamole charge and the comment about the tip hadn't happened.

Well, now. Finding truly authentic Venezuelan cuisine wasn't on my 2026 bingo card (as the cool…read morekids say), but I'm definitely stamping this square. Dios mio, what a meal! There was not a bad bite to be had. We might've cut the roofs of our mouths with the crisped-to-perfection Patacón, but I don't care--I think all sandwiches should be encased in fried plantain instead of bread. And the succulent pernil filling? Dios mio otra vez! Though, tbf, when is pernil ever a bad choice? Then there was the stuffed-to-the-brim Cachapa filled with carne mechada and Venezuelan cheese. It was enormous. Like, Jesus pulling from the neverending fish basket enormous. It never ended. We had to take it home. But before we did, I practically ate all of the arepa, which was the sweetest, bursting-with-corn-flavor arepa I've ever had outside of South America. It was so good, I practically cried with every bite. Tears of corny joy, mind you. We got an entree of grilled fish (Filete de Pescado a la Plancha), which came with a complimentary side--in our case, arroz amarillo cuz I gotta have my grains. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside, meltingly tender on the inside. As with everything else, it was also way bigger than it had any right to be. Finally, we ended with what we THOUGHT would be a small item--the Arepa Arcoiris Llanero--but we were mistaken. It was stuffed so full of fresh avocado, shredded chicken, and various veggies that it had to be further encased in a paper wrapper for fear of the arepa wrap giving up on its job. We didn't make it more than a few bites before having to regretfully pack it home, but those few bites were chef's kiss. Venezuela has long been on my bucket list (who doesn't want to see Mount Roraima or Angel Falls?), but until I can get there, I'll be more than happy to "settle" for coming to this beautifully modern paradise of culinary delights. Throw in the huge portions and unbelievably low prices, and it's kind of a no-brainer to make the trip.

At Maracaibo you can expect a lovely environment of hearty music, playful conversations, pretty…read morefood and drink presentations. The service wasn't too bad, my cup ran empty every now and then but wasn't egregious. Let's talk presentation, the way drinks and food come out is clearly something the head of Maracaibo wanted to place extra detail on. Though the extra presentation is a bit gimmicky, it still got the job done for the most part. The sampler came in a giant Ferris wheel contraption. Not pictured, but my cocktail came with floating cotton candy. Nevertheless, the food was still incredible. The sampler is a must, not only for the presentation, but for the delicious eats that can push you out of your comfort zone. For first time Venezuelan eaters the amount of ways plantain could be prepped and served may be jarring, but I would encourage bravery and just try everything and anything you can on the sampler. Each bite was worth it! Let's talk main entrees, you won't be disappointed by the portions. If you enjoy plantain, definitely go for the patacon - if not, I'd suggest holding off as you may get your fill of it elsewhere. The skirt steak (churrasco) was cooked to my liking, went well in my patacon sandwich. It is massive, I couldn't eat it all - had to take some back. Onto the arepa bowl. Though the contents of the bowl instead could be something you may get elsewhere (like Chipotle for example), it's the addition of the arepa bowl blended with the flavors of everything else and the sauces they drizzle on top that completes this dish. It's unique and it screams for you to taste and pay attention. Overall - great foods, great ambiance, great people. Bit gimmicky but it is what it is.
