The options for financing were also very clear. Once beginning treatment, as parents, we felt informed and most importantly on a team with the occasional "bigger" decisions. Dr. Chang's bedside manner is impeccable, but his behind the scenes work, collaboration with other experts and the expertise that he brings to make the product he provides so superior - are the things that really set him above and beyond other healthcare providers! I was on the lookout for a local orthodontist to explore options for braces or express Invisalign after my teeth shifted due to not wearing my retainers for two years. I obtained quotes from several orthodontists in the area for comparison. Dr. Chang's quote was the highest, which I later realized was because it included a full Invisalign set that wasn't necessary for my case. During our initial consultation, I had a great conversation with Dr. Chang and appreciated his bedside manner. It seems as if he's very involved with the local school community since he has t-shirts from all of the local schools in the area, which led me to consider him despite the higher cost. When I returned for photos and to sign the contract, I was surprised to find that the price was higher than I had anticipated. I felt uncomfortable proceeding with the scans and photos without confirming the pricing, so I offered to come back once I clarified things with Dr. Chang. However, the staff encouraged me to continue with the scans and photos, assuring me I could sign the agreement during my next visit. The following Monday, Dr. Chang called to confirm the quote he had provided was correct. I realized I had misread the figures, mistaking $7,200 for $7,000, and I apologized for the oversight. I requested a $200 reduction to fit my initial budget of $6,000, but he explained that his prices for Invisalign had increased, and he was already honoring a lower price. Understanding that I would not need the full set of trays, I expressed that if he could not accommodate the $200 discount since I will pay in full immediately, I would need to explore other options. Dr. Chang then mentioned I would be charged $400 for the scans and photos. I explained that his staff had told me to proceed with the prep work on the understanding that I would not move forward without the price adjustment, and I hadn't signed any paperwork. After leaving a message for the business, I don't hear from the business for days. And when I finally hear from them, it wasn't a call, a voice message, but a text message asking me to call back during business hours. Wow... I had my kid's braces done by Dr. Chang some years back and it is ok but the communication was not optimal. He made decisions, how wide the front section of the teeth should be, without explaining and consulting with me. Later I found out the shape wasn't right and I asked him and he just said "oh, that's most people would like". He adjusted afterward with my insistence. A few years ago I came back to him for my own ortho adjust need and he really did NOT give good approach at all. Asking me to pull a front tooth in order to make things work. I accepted but hesitated with the treatment. I felt very uncomfortable so I stopped at the beginning after the Invisalign mold was done, while he charged me full amount. I didn't fight since I changed my mind first. Recently I checked with Dr. Rodney Lee and he advised to trim a tinny bit from several front teeth to make space without pulling out a tooth at all. I should have sought second opinion back then to save me a few thousand dollars!!! His office is in SF a bit far from where I live, I was lazy not going to him in the first place. Dr. Lee is the best, actually he is Dr. Chang's teacher. But alas, the student can't match his mentor. Dr. Chang is not a bad guy, but just not competent and caring enough to be a good doctor. For easy ortho tasks for young kids, which all ortho doctors can do, he is probably ok, but anything slightly complex I wouldn't trust him at all. read more
