I even was there on St. Patrick's Day and it never got too full. The ambiance is a little dim, which I think is what they're going for, and they have pool, darts, and shuffleboard. The staff is always kind and helpful when I've been there, which adds to the welcoming, chill atmosphere. They sometimes will have crockpots out with food you can snack on. On St. Paddy's Day, it was a corned beef stew that definitely hit the spot. If you're not there on a game day or holiday when they have the crock pots out, they don't serve food for purchase (aside from some tasty bagged chips), so be sure to eat before or after you come, or you can order delivery from a few nearby places. And lastly, they are very affordable. If you're drinking cheap beer, like I do (which they have many options of), expect to spend less than $10 here for the whole night. So, when we get together these days, we like to find a place that allows us to nostalgically re-live those days. We thought the Elbow Room fit the bill. Turns out, we were partially right. It's our kind of bar generally. Kind of run down and dingy but a place where you can drink cold beer. In theory, you could also play shuffleboard and darts. This particular night the dart board was not operational and the shuffleboard table was marginal at best. They had no sand to add to the table and there are dead spots on the board where the pucks literally just stop. Not optimal. But, we were having fun and learning the nuance of the board was kind of a challenge so we spent quite a bit of our evening playing anyway. When you walk in, you are hit with a fairly strong musty smell of old bar. You get used to it and it's not a big deal. The bartender this night was a good dude and took good care of us. This is definitely a locals bar and it was a pretty chill group on this particular Saturday night. If you want to find a hole in the wall to drink some beer, this fits the bill. If you want to play bar games, you might want to go elsewhere.

We were doing a pub crawl and had a drink at each of the Capitol District bars. I think Annie's would rank probably in the middle somewhere of the places we tried. The ambiance is like a "hole in the wall" style pub with concrete floors and booths like you'd find in Dublin. There's an area at the back with leather chairs, dart boards, and a few board games. I'm not sure if it gets pretty busy at times, but we were the only group of people there when we went, and it seemed rather large and empty. The bartender was a little snippety, but I wasn't sure if this was part of the "schtick" or not, because she wasn't mean or rude, just a little short and hurrying us up to order (humming the Jeopardy theme song when someone was looking at the menu to decide). I took it as funny, so not mad about it or anything. I liked the vibe of the place feeling like you're in Ireland almost, but the cost is a bit expensive for the tiny beer sizes you get. Also you would think for trying to be an Irish pub type theme, they'd serve drinks in real pint glasses, but I got a tiny 12oz or so plastic cup of beer for $5. There are some good things about Annie's, but I think I prefer a few other places in The Capitol District, like Let it Fly or Roxxy.

I have been going to Blind Dave's for a very long time. I enjoy the patrons, the atmosphere, and…read moremost of all the friendly service. The drinks are reasonably priced as well. That is until recently. I had the misfortune of being served by one of the most rude and unprofessional and unfriendly bartenders I have ever met. At first I assumed she was having a bad day, but I was informed that was not the case by another patron, that was just "how Jessie is". Well I find it extremely unprofessional to look a customer in the eye and tell them that they "won't get the same service because they are not a regular ". If I was that person, I would never go back to Blind Dave's ever again and I would tell everyone I know about her. Also, I can get a drink from all the other bartenders at one price but she charges me $1.50 more AND her pours are horrible. There is almost no alcohol in a mixed drink. I am very aware of how much goes in a mixed drink. She has no customer service skills whatsoever. The way she talks to certain customers is absolutely appalling and shouldn't be tolerated. I have heard a lot of complaints from other patrons about her as well. The last time I was in Blind Dave's, I actually watched no less than 6 regulars walk out when she came on shift. That's lost revenue for Dave and as a business owner, I would be concerned if I was loosing customers and revenue. I enjoy going to Blind Dave's because of the atmosphere and especially the service. The ladies have always been great, BUT I have no problem saying that I will never have another drink on Jessie's shift again, I will take my business elsewhere.

Karaoke night at Quarthouse is a blast -- there's no pretense and no one cares how badly you sing, it's all about the fun. I've been in a few times and would have to say this is my favorite dive to visit when I'm in Council Bluffs.
