Great tasting NY pizza! My son lives in Manhattan. He took us here when we went to visit him. As with most of Manhattan restaurants, it is quite small. After walking the streets of SoHo, we entered through the large glass doors that led us to the narrow and long strip pizza place with limited and tight seating along the walls. That's okay! We found a small table to sit and enjoy our pizza slices. It's the only pizza place we visited in NYC that served square shaped pizzas as opposed to the traditional triangled shaped ones. You get lost browsing through all the pictures on the wall displaying those famous people who have come by. In fact, after visiting this place, I came across a video Courteney Cox made while dining at this same pizza place. Coincidently! She also sat at the same little spot we sat at. read more

In this city that has so many places with excellent pizza slices, Champion Pizza is absolutely terrible. I was walking on 14th St., a bit hungry, and stopped in for a slice. While the slice I got was large, it was the thinnest slice I've ever received in NYC. There was just nothing to it. Cheese and sauce was an afterthought. I got the feeling they only put enough on so they can still legally call it pizza. It tasted like I was eating cardboard with a little sauce on it. All this for $3.50 per slice. You're far better off going to one of the Dollar slice places. At least their pizza slice tastes fresh. read more

I just want to start of by saying I love the Champion Pizza franchise! The sauce is insanely good - perfectly sweet and seasoned. The crust is always super thin as NYC pizza should be! Their pesto margarita pizza is my favorite. I'm only knocking off a star for this location's service. The manager seemed like he was over involved with everything. I ordered with one guy but needed the 2 free drinks I got with my order but the manager intervened and said I can only get one drink because he didn't realize I ordered 4 slices. A small mistake but could have been avoided if he just let his employees do their thing. Plus while we were eating, I could hear him reprimanding or maybe discussing something with one of the delivery drivers. I felt that could have been done in private or when the store was empty. I got the mac and cheese pizza which was amazing! I thought it would have a very one note flavor profile but was pleasantly surprised to find that I could taste the different cheeses. I also got the spinach slice which was disgusting. It did not taste like Champion Pizza. The spinach was in clumps and very wet. I think it was frozen spinach that they hadn't squeezed the water out of. There was no seasoning on the spinach or cheese. No sauce too. The chicken and broccoli was good. Decent amount of chicken. Pretty good pizza option in Manhattan. Finding good pizza, not just in Manhattan but anywhere, can be a hassle at times because not all pizza is created equal. Being in Manhattan, you get the added bonus of paying more than the norm for a sub-par slice. So I'm generally cautious when going to a new pizzeria in the city. I took a chance here and am glad I did. I ordered a plain slice and a bbq chicken ranch slice. Both were good enough, though not the very best but way far from the worst. Even better, they weren't unreasonable with the prices (including a drink) as most places can be. The crust is crispy and cooked well. There's a decent amount of seating and everything was clean. The overall place looks nice with many pictures on the wall to stare at and the displays behind the counter are appetizing and don't look like they've been sitting there for 2 days. Unless it's the look that they're going for, the ceiling does need to be repainted....badly. Otherwise the place has a comfortable feel. The one employee I dealt with was friendly. They have a good overall selection behind the glass. I never looked at the menus, but I'm sure there's more. They have a good drink selection as well, which is always important. While it's getting harder to find decent pizzerias in Manhattan, this one is a safe bet if you're in the area looking for a good slice. Still a really great pizza place. I've been to the Astoria location and the one on the lower east side. Ventured in before orchestra one evening because I had no food in my fridge like one does and it was raining buckets outside. Was famished - ordered a regular slice and the mac and cheese. Regular slice is just okay and nothing to write home about in comparison to other plain cheese pizzas but their specialty pie slices are well worth it. Buffalo chicken is great. I think they combine pepperoni onto the mac and cheese. Slightly crisp crust. Moist and delicious fresh toppings. Somewhat reasonably priced. If you had to pick between this and Slice a block away, I'd go here. They didn't yell at me for having my own water bottle on me - another added bonus. read more

Delicious New York Pizza! Champion is worth trying. I had a tourist visiting town that wanted a nice slice loaded with meat, and boy did we find it. We decided to have one standard slice with pepperoni and sausage each and share one square slice with sausage and ricotta. The slices were huge and super filling, definitely worth the price. They also threw in a can of soda with our 2 slices (there is a deal for 2 slice + a can of soda). The meat was definitely on the salty side, so beware if you're not big on salt. The square slice had a super strong garlic flavor which I loved. Three auditorium issued tables held sixteen college dudes, all putting the mack down on slice upon slice of champions pizzas and speaking to each other loudly some form of German. Tough to hear and modulate over them and under middle eastern reggae - rap - house - freestyle rythem that seemed to have it all together and no track breaks to break the multicultural musical onslaught. Better to be too hot than not hot enough as was the case, but the frat house rushed the counter once again for more, so it's off to the shakers. Salt, pepper and oregano -- no red chilie flakes, no garlic powder -- perish the thought of grated parmesan and that's just not something that I can overlook.
