Margherita square
Seby I.

All the pizzas here are square sized. Lots of toppings are available. I ordered a Margherita square for $5. The crust was thin and crisp. The sauce was not seasoned well which made it bland. I was disappointed. This pizzeria has been here for a decade. I got a seat at a table. The interior is bright and colorful and the young lady who took my order had a nice smile. I doubt if I will return.

Ah, New York: a city so synonymous with pizza that its very name conjures the image of a perfectly folded slice, steaming in the fluorescent glow of a corner shop. Yet for the uninitiated, finding the pizza--the one that justifies all the smugness--can feel like chasing the green light across the bay. Enter Champion Pizza, the place that makes you realize, with a mix of delight and mild annoyance, that all the clichés about New York pizza are, in fact, true. The crust here is a marvel--thin but sturdy, with a charred edge that feels just the right amount of reckless. The sauce strikes a rare balance: tangy but not attention-seeking, understated enough to let the cheese (melted to a gooey, golden utopia) take center stage. It's the kind of slice that makes you reconsider your life choices, like why you ever entertained the idea of deep dish. For vegetarians--who are often treated as afterthoughts in the world of pizza--Champion is a revelation. The roasted vegetable slice is a small masterpiece of caramelized this and sautéed that, and the truffle slice? Let's just say it could convert even the staunchest pepperoni loyalist. It's rich without being pretentious, a rare feat in a city that often confuses excess with charm. Champion Pizza doesn't shout about its greatness. It doesn't need to. It quietly hands you a slice, and by the time you're halfway through, you're already planning your return. This, dear visitor, is the pizza they were talking about.

Stale old pizza cheese.

The food is HORRIBLE!!! The cheese and the sauce taste old. I asked if a fresh square pizza will be coming out and he said no. We ate here a few years ago and it was great. Made the trip here just for the pizza. We are extremely dissatisfied and disappointed. Plus the music should be for everyone who eats there not just for the worker behind the counter.

Pizza was everything I was hoping for- lots of options by the slice but classic pepperoni is always a winner. Crust is perfect texture and flavor

It's a NYC pizza joint so you get about what you would expect. I find Champions cheese pizza special to be a very good offering for a reasonable price and the pizza is pretty good. The joint is alittle dated but it does the trick. Service is NYC fast and NYC friendly.

This place is so good! All the pizzas my friends and I had were amazing. Our favorite was the square Margherita and the garlic rolls. The owner is super nice which is refreshing for NYC and he even offered to let us use his charger. So awesome. And you can see on his wall a lot of celebrities have been here. I would highly recommend this place!

i'm not sure if the person is the owner or not but a friend asked to use their bathroom. the man said "customers only" and my friend was more than ok to pay for 3 slices of pizza. the man continues to belittle her even though she paid for her food. right after she uses the bathroom she tells the man he can keep the pizza and the money because that's the kind of person she is! KIND this experience gave my friend SO MUCH anxiety. no one should ever have to go through this. if you want to see the video, look up jaegottlieb on tiktok. THERE IS PROOF the worker was being rude for no reason!

Great tasting NY pizza! My son lives in Manhattan. He took us here when we went to visit him. As with most of Manhattan restaurants, it is quite small. After walking the streets of SoHo, we entered through the large glass doors that led us to the narrow and long strip pizza place with limited and tight seating along the walls. That's okay! We found a small table to sit and enjoy our pizza slices. It's the only pizza place we visited in NYC that served square shaped pizzas as opposed to the traditional triangled shaped ones. You get lost browsing through all the pictures on the wall displaying those famous people who have come by. In fact, after visiting this place, I came across a video Courteney Cox made while dining at this same pizza place. Coincidently! She also sat at the same little spot we sat at.

If you need that cheap slice or pizza to satisfy a craving, this hits the spot. The service is always fast and your slice with be hot. Decent crust and a NYC style tomato sauce. The ambiance includes photos of famous people who have stopped by. Sometimes it's cold because there is an issue with the door that does not always close. There is a two slice and soda special for ten bucks. That works for me.

Food: Came here for pizza after a late night of partying. Definitely hit the spot while drunk. But I enjoyed the pizza so much, I know I'd even enjoy it sober. The chicken bacon ranch pizza was my ultimate favorite since it had a cream sauce and not a red sauce. Slices were on the more expensive side compared to other places in NY but I'd come back here any day. Ambiance/Service: So much seating available and many hung photographs of famous people who have visited the establishment. Worker was super kind and accommodating!

You can spend a lot of time just looking at the pictures of the famous and not so famous who have had pizza here. Everyone has been here it seems. Tasty slice, and with their deal of two regular cheese slices and can of soda for $5.99 it won't break the bank for a quick meal. In fact, for a cheap amount you can also score corn nuggets, chicken nuggets, and fried okra here too. Fine dining for sure.

The arancini was a standout: perfectly crisp on the outside, creamy inside, and served with a rich, delicious sauce that tied it all together. We ended on the tiramisu, which was absolutely worth saving room. It was light, flavorful, and a perfect finish to the meal. What really elevated the experience, though, was the staff. Everyone was genuinely kind and helpful--especially notable for New York--and it made the whole evening feel relaxed and welcoming. A small heads-up: it's a bit tricky to find, so give yourself extra time. That said, the hidden, underground subway setting is part of the charm and makes the whole experience feel unique. I'd love to see more restaurants creatively use these kinds of spaces in the future.

It is located right in the hallway of a subway entrance, next to a bar and across from a coffee shop, and it somehow manages to feel like a cozy, sit-down restaurant right in the middle of NYC. Don't let the odd location fool you, the food here is outstanding. The Neapolitan and Sicilian-style pizzas are both exceptional, with rich, well-balanced flavors and perfectly executed crusts. Every bite tastes high quality. Also, don't skip the house-made lemonade! The experience is even better because of the incredibly friendly and attentive staff. They were all so kind to so many people. From offering to keep leftovers in the fridge until a customer was done at their broadway show, to offering a scone to a young child while he and his father waited for their pizza to be done, it was more than just flipping a table and onto the next tip, it was humanity at its best. Be sure to give See No Evil Pizza a try. You certainly will want to come back again for more.
