Big Derek Fan. Been with him ~5 years. His flexibility with scheduling has been the best. His…read moreservices and skills even better. :-)

A few weeks ago, after reading the reviews and having been familiar with the Frederic Fekkai…read moresalons, I came for a 1" trim to my long-time, blunt-cut, medium-length (3 inches below the chin), slightly angled bob, beveled a bit underneath at the nape. It was quickly dried and styled in center or side parts, with lots of volume, lift and swing. Elegant and easy. Derek said he couldn't understand me. I should have left immediately. What I have now is an inexplicable cut, 2-5 " off, barely chin length, huge amounts of hair removed, wispy layers everywhere, and texturizing. He has activated a mass of waves and curls never seen before. From the front, the shape is a cartoonish wide diamond. From the sides, a fat wedge. This is the opposite of what is required for copious, European, fine, porous hair with a nape curl and minimal wave. Derek basically has created a White girl Afro. He somehow dried it beautifully, disguising the weird architectural structure by using a tiny brush on myriad narrow strands, drying them straight, and contorting them via elaborate manual sculpting techniques, product and nearly an hour of work. Maybe he planned to do twice-weekly blowdries on it. I have spent many days and dollars elsewhere experimenting with product, techniques and professional advice while attempting to cope. Derek pleasantly refunded the charges and apologized for the "inconvenience." This is far worse than inconvenient.

Update 11/11/2021: I received a text from Felice which I have attached below. I was appalled by the…read moresevere lack of professional demeanor she had to even reach out to me in the background, let alone to berate me and my friend again, instead of addressing the issue in the open. As you can see from her message, she goes back and forth between accusing me and my friend, putting us down, lauding herself, and weirdly, trying to take a 'kindly' approach by warning me that my best friend (of three years, by the way) isn't a good person. It took a couple of tries reading it before I realized that she changed who she was talking to halfway through the text. In the first half she's clearly speaking to my friend, and in the second she's speaking to me. I've also attached a photo of Felice's salon, as it appears she's trying to claim that it wasn't messy. When we walked in and paused, taking a look around, she apologized and said she'd been traveling a lot to do make-up and hair and hadn't the opportunity to clean up. Her back room was way worse, but she kept that door closed. Where I thought I was giving her the grace to prove herself because I understand artistic scatter, she took advantage of us and is now trying to push the blame onto us. Why did we stay if it was a mess? Why didn't we say something? Why weren't we more clear? Because blaming the victim is cool, right? To clarify: we were not asked repeatedly if we were happy and my friend didn't even get a chance to see what she looked like, so how could she reply? She did ask what I thought of my hair and I gave her instruction which, as previously stated, she completely ignored and even argued with me about. I never said 'yes, I'm happy,' contrary to what her text says - and if she does have recordings of our entire interaction, then it could easily be proven that we weren't happy and that she wasn't listening. My friend has gorgeous hair which she cares for very diligently. She also never asked for a trim - and she didn't get a trim. Felice used thinning shears haphazardly through my friend's hair and seemed to forget what she was doing halfway through. There was no 'associate' there other than Felice though she did call for backup around 3pm, which never came. The lady across the hall showed up with someone but they stayed across the hall after a brief look-in. And now for a bit of personal information: I've been abused. I raised my younger brother. I have PTSD and chronic, intractable migraines and live every day in pain. When I'm around strangers, I don't start by telling them all the awful things I've been through in the hopes that they'll tell me the awful things they've been through and I certainly wouldn't bring these things up when I'm performing a task or service for someone. It's not professional and it's not certainly professional to play 'My daddy is a pilot' with trauma. You don't know what I went through, I don't know what you went through. Suffice it to say it sucked. It's not an excuse to explain away all the things you've done wrong and it's completely irrelevant in the scheme of this debate.

Update: False response since my or my family didn't interrupt. She offered a full refund! Failed to…read moredo so. She collected $257 for one session. Such a fraud. I already filled a suit through my credit card. I believe in Karma, you stole my money. You are not $257 good for 1 session. No thank you!!
