To make matters worse, Instead of an apology, I was told "It is what is is, accidents happen. Overslept after long night with kids. I was doing you a favor anyways coming in before I open" I asked weeks prior if 8am was an option, she said yes no problem. My main complaint as a business owner myself is the lack of professionalism. If you make a mistake...you apologize and own up to your mistake. You don't say, it is what it is, and mistakes happen with no apology to a new customer. I would never say that to a customer and be so rude. That says a lot about a person. I would prefer to give my business to someone else.

Also, she listens to you. If you only want an inch of dead ends cut off, and you should get three, she will recommend that you take off the three inches but won't just chop your hair off. (Which personally is always a huge scare for me - I want a hair stylist that will listen to my wants/needs). Highly professional, friendly, honest, and very well educated on her profession! You won't be disappointed. My daughter loves to visit Blake-Leigh for hair cuts as well. She is 4 years old, a little shy, but she LOVES Blake-Leigh. It makes hair cuts a breeze! No hair cut jitters. Again, Blake-Leigh is highly professional and great at what she does.

Do. Not. Go. To. This. Place! I requested Kendall. She has a reputation for doing a great job with…read morecolor. My son's wedding was a week away, and Kendall was highly recommended. I honestly don't know what happened. Kendall did my hair for 15 minutes and disappeared. She had another client who was apparently more important than I was. The owner came and took over. Keep in mind that I spoke with Kendall about my expectations, not the owner. She had no idea what I wanted. I told Kendall I needed to leave there as a blond, but I left there as a dark brunette with the back of my hair almost black. I expressed my concerns twice during the whole event, but the owner insisted that she knew what she was doing. She trained Kendall, after all. Her hands were super shaky, and at one point she told me she wasn't sure she could finish my hair because of her hands. When she was done, three hours later, my hair was brown. Brown. Then she threatened to call the police if I didn't pay her ... wait for it ... $150. I refused. I did pay $75, although I have no idea why. I am going to have to pay someone, probably $200 to fix this mess. She told me that she was planning on doing my hair from the beginning because Kendall was booked. I had an appointment. I spoke with Kendall two weeks prior, and it was clear that a substitution was not an option. The owner was rude, and unreasonable, and she stole my money. She did offer to put highlights in my hair, but there was no way. She did such a terrible job, and was so rude, why would I trust her? Anyway, she asked me not to review her, but I asked her if she could make me blond, so turnabout is fair play. If she didn't charge me, this review would never have been written. She said she was sure I was going to give her a ... we'll say bad review, so she wanted her money. If there was a lower star than one star, she would get it.

I went in for a simple haircut before Easter. At the start of the appointment, I explained to the…read morestylist, Melissa, that I previously had a bad haircut and even showed her a photo of that past experience so she understood my concerns. I am attaching the photo here since the owner suggested I might simply be "difficult." To be clear, I am not criticizing the haircut she gave me--the cut itself turned out nice. However, what was extremely upsetting was how rough the brushing and hair-washing process felt. The level of force used was excessive and left my scalp tender and sore. It was genuinely painful, and as someone who struggles with confrontation and advocating for myself in the moment, I wasn't able to speak up while it was happening. After leaving the appointment, the soreness only increased, so I called the salon to share my experience and express my concern. Instead of listening or acknowledging that my experience was valid, both the owner and the receptionist dismissed me outright. They defended the stylist immediately, without any willingness to hear what actually occurred. Their response made it clear that constructive feedback is not something this salon is willing to accept or handle professionally. As I write this, my scalp is still painful, and I am deeply disappointed by how my complaint was handled. Based on my experience, I want others to be aware that if something goes wrong--or if you are handled too aggressively--your concerns may not be taken seriously.

Not only is Rafa very knowledgeable about the business side of the profession, but she is also an amazing makeup artist herself. I was impressed by her beautiful makeup art, and it was the first thing that caught my attention and made me trust her. The next thing was her aspiration to help other makeup artists achieve their goals and improve their life. Last but not least, a big part of Rafa's training is mindset. I relate and connect to that on every level, and knowing how important it is, I was surprised to find out I was missing some fundamental building blocks. Only 2 months after I signed up for the training, I started seeing results. Now, only 3 months later, I am booking clients and charging a higher rate than I wished and planned for. Did I forget to say... once you are completed with your training, Rafa is still there to support you along the way. What a relief! If you want to elevate your business as a makeup artist, having Beauty By Rafa's coaching and guidance will be the best decision and investment you have ever made!
